Yes, it is about the norm for USB2 only 1TB drives from major stores recently. Officeworks had the Western Digital recently $179, Austins WD around $190. Check Drive RPM??

Remember it is only USB2 it is not advisable to use for video or large file capture-storage. Reasonable for backup; as far as backup it will create initial at about the same pace as Firewire 400 ?????? although Firewire with Time Machine, or Bacula, or rsync, seems to complete task a little quicker, but definitely more reliable. This is due to the way both formats acquire data; Google search for defined explanation.

The biggest problem with USB2 is the time it will take to restore said data Firewire 400 absolutely wins hands down, personally save a few more dollars about $100 and purchase a 1TB with Firewire 800 which most Macs can accommodate? or the Firewire 400 definitely worth the few extra $. eSata is very good option, but it requires some form of card to be added to system

and not totally sure how OS X is with this type of connection.

OSX is fine with eSata , almost as though it is connected to the internal bus .

Speed is about 6 ( yes six ) times faster than firewire 400 .

With some arrangements you can even boot off the eSata , but that is not possible on ALL cards
and sometimes is related to drive maker .

Daniel recently had great pricing for the Firewire 800 quad connection drives would suggest an email of list to find out his pricing and recommendations.

But, stating all the above any backup is better than no backup.

Hi all, I see Betta Electrical have a 1TB Seagate drive for $189, no
details given in catalogue but presumably USB only. Seems like a
good deal though - any views?
