Hi Laura,

Now, I'm on the "same page" as you and understand why you have used Keynote for your Slide Presentation. Keynote is the correct application for you to use.
It is not too ambitious, and from what you have told us, you have successfully created your slide presentation in Keynote and exported it as a Quicktime Movie.

Yes that's correct although I'm no longer sure just how I did it!! The warning before burning was related to empty drop zones. I fixed that after consulting the Help Menu and unticking a box in Menu Information.

The only little hiccup you are experiencing at the moment is creating a DVD of your presentation in iDVD, and I'm sure we will be able to sort this out.

I can now report some overnight success. I now have a DVD of my Keynote Slide Presentation that plays on my DVD player through the TV. Hooray!!

Thank you for your detailed instructions which I shall use to create another DVD asap just to prove this current one is not a fluke!! You asked have I ever used iDVD to create a DVD before. The answer is no, because until recently my MacBook only had a Combo drive without any facility for burning DVDs.

If you are having trouble "Dragging & Dropping" the QT Movie from the desktop (as Rod suggested you do). In your  iDVD project go to File > Import > Video, scroll to find your QT.mov on the desktop.

I think what I did here was to only drag the movie to the "Drag content here to play automatically when disk inserted" rather than dragging it into the movie drop box.

There are still a couple of hiccups.

1. Somehow I "lost" the audio in the Preview so put it back and it works fine in the Preview but it's not on the burned DVD. Any ideas?

2. When played on the TV/DVD player, part of the text under the photos on the slides is not visible on the extreme LH side. This could just be because my TV is old and not a flat screen.  Before I try and correct this I'll ask a friend with a more modern TV to try it out for me.

OR, you could start a new iDVD project and make a "Magic iDVD" ...
1. Open iDVD
2. Choose File > Magic iDVD
3. Edit the DVD Title (name it what you wish, "Cycling Experience in Provence")
4. Choose a Theme by clicking one of the thumbnails
5. Drag your movie into one of the "Drop Boxes"
6. Preview your DVD by using the Preview button, then "Enter" on the little DVD Player, play the movie all the way through, the "Exit" the preview player.
7. Once you know your project plays through correctly in iDVD. Go to File > Save As Disc Image"
You then see a window "Creating your DVD"
a. Prepare
b. Process Menus
c. Process Slideshows
d. Process Movies
e. Burn

After all the Rendering, encoding, processing movie, asset encoding,  & finally multiplexing & burning is completed, a "Disc Image" is created.

All this takes a long time, depending on the length of your movie.
8. Open the "Disk Image" and play it "all the way through" in DVD Player.app to check for any errors BEFORE you burn the "Disc Image" to a DVD-R Disc.

9. Burn at a slow speed - 2x (I recommend using Verbatim DVD-R (for single layer) & Verbatim DVD+R DL Discs (for Double Layer)

I'll use the above and try a Magic iDVD.

A million thanks for your help.

Regards
Laura

Hi Susan

Ronni asked why am I using Keynote rather than iPhoto?

You are spot on with your second guessing! As well as simply wanting to become familiar with Keynote (iWork being new to me) I wanted the text as well. The master slide I chose allows for a photo plus text below as well as an additional box for even more information. It's probably a bit ambitious at this stage, but my ultimate aim is to be able to show this project at an information session about our recent cycling experience in Provence, similar to the photos you saw in the Photo Book but in slideshow format with text.

Laura

Hi Laura, not to second guess you, but Keynote allows you to add slides which are text/commentary on the photos, rather than just having a slideshow of photos. That's why I was interested in what you are doing - its easy enough to set up slideshows in iPhoto, but if you want people to know more about what it is that they are seeing, then Keynote provides a way to adding extras. At least, that would be my reason for using Keynote.

cheers, Susan.

One thing that has been bothering me is WHY did you used Keynote to create a Slideshow of photos that you obviously already have in iPhoto?
Why didn't you create an Album of the photos in iPhoto and then iPhoto can send the set of photos to iDVD to create a DVD slideshow that can be viewed on any TV with a DVD player.
