Sometimes, for what ever reason, some code just doesn't work with Safari, despite it being one of the most standards-compliant browsers available. You do need access to an alternative in these cases, the most popular being Firefox. I personally use Safari by default, mainly for its support for (well-written) modern web standards including strong html5, but also for its integrated PDF reader. I have grown to loathe the Adobe Reader plugin. It has become a bloated mess.
