What is different with this one file then Adrian … does it have the same permissions on it as the other files?
TM stores the permissions for each file separately; and puts those special "deny everybody everything" permissions on the actual backups partly to prevent one user from accessing another user's backups, but also to keep us mere mortals from changing things. The unique and complex structure of TM backups has the enormous advantage that it can do quick "incremental" backups of only the things that changed, but each backup is, in effect, a full backup of your entire system. Any changes to that structure not made by TM can hopelessly corrupt the backups.
