iPhone/iPod Touch Apps

If you're trying to listen on a mobile device, like Apple's iPhone or iPod
Touch, you'll need to download an App to hear the show. We recommend the Public
Radio Player (iTunes link). Once you've installed the player, you'll need to
find a station that broadcasts Prairie Home Companion.

and has ranked as one of the top free apps on iTunes since its debut in the

Public Radio Exchange (PRX) is responsible for the development of the Public
Radio Player. The project was funded by a generous grant from the Corporation
for Public Broadcasting and originated from a collaboration led by PRX in
partnership with NPR, American Public Media, and Public Radio International,
with participation from Doc Searls and Project VRM at the Berkman Center for
Internet and Society at Harvard University.

The Public Radio Player project emerged during the iPhone’s early days as a way
to get public radio on mobile. We wanted to gain expertise in mobile
development while bringing public radio to more listeners. CPB, PRX, and the
original project partners saw the app development process as a way to encourage
communication and knowledge-sharing in order to harness the collective
expertise, talents, and resources of the public radio system. And we succeeded,
with high levels of station support and participation, and widespread adoption
of the app. PRX has gathered insights about mobile web development and usage
that we have shared with the public media system.
