Thank you. That at least explains why the upgrade went ahead without any 
warning. I always charge the battery overnight. The upgrade was available early 
this morning when the battery was fully charged. 

This is the first time I have upgraded without using iTunes but will still keep 
Ronni's advice in mind for the future.
