Hi, there doesn't seem to be a big difference between the ipad2 and iPad third 
generation. 4g on the iPad is not available in Australia yet even though the 
third generation got it in the USA. 

But, who knows about the iPad 4? That may be when we get 4g here in australia. 
haven't seen a rumor about the ipad 4, but have seen enough on the iPad mini to 
convince me it's coming, I thought in October, with the iPhone 5 to be 
announced in September.

Reading all of these rumors can 'do your head in'.

I suppose if you were deciding between 2 and 3 I'd get the later version 
because it will be longer before you want to upgrade.
