Hi Brian, Any application that uses the camera can trigger the VCDAssistant crash that you are seeing in Console. You need to look if you have installed any similar programs like the ones I mentioned below, which changes the controller of the display(s) and the way OS X Mavericks handles them.
If you are using a display mirroring add-on (examples: AirParrot, DisplayLink, etc.), uninstalling these drivers and restarting Mac should solve your problem. But you must uninstall 'everything' the program installs by using the official uninstaller that came with the program or follow uninstall instructions from their website. NOTE: You must Reboot your Mac after uninstalling these programs files. When you uninstalled AirParrot did you use the Removal Tool utility? <http://support.airsquirrels.com/article.php?id=8> Also did you run these commands in Terminal.app? For users using OS X 10.9, the following additional commands may be necessary: sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/APExtFramebuffer.kext sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/AirParrotDriver.kext Please be sure to reboot once you're removed the drivers.
