If you had told us you were trying to grab the screenshot in DVD player, we would have told you Screen Grabs are unavailable during DVD playback. You have to quit DVD Player first. Ever since OSX came out, Apple made sure that it would not be possible to take a screenshot of a DVD. When DVD Player is open, you can't capture the screen with Grab, Command-Shift-3 and Command-Shift-4 both do not work when DVD Player is open.
