I use both without any problems. I use 1Password mainly because of its many
other features such as Software Registration keys, Credit Card management,
Personal Details, and myriad others. Safari uses Keychain by default, but is
quite happy to both keychain and 1Password both at the same time. If you have
iCloud set appropriately, both Keychain and 1Password will synchronse across
all your devices. Of course, 1Password is a commercial product so (a) it costs
money to use, and (b) you need a copy on each device you use. Keychain, on the
other hand, comes as part of Mac OS, so all you need for full sync is to turn
on iCloud for each candidate device.

If you don’t want or need synchronisation, then both systems are completely
secure, as much as your computer is secure. When you use synchronisation,
security is as strong as the service you are using, and I think iCloud has
pretty good credentials in this regard as long as you are sensible about
things. 1Password will also synchronise through Dropbox, which is also highly
regarded.
