Hi Peter,

As I previously mentioned, I have gone the Office 365 route and have always
used Officeworks to get a cheaper (than MS) subscription renewal price.

Officeworks also sell the standalone software – but their price is
significantly higher – HOWEVER they also have a “best price guarantee” which I
have invoked a couple of times in the past (although the price savings were
usually relatively modest).

It used to be that these “best price guarantees” were only valid between other
bricks-and-mortar competitors – but I see that Officeworks now also include
online stores:

https://www.officeworks.com.au//information/policies/price-beat-guarantee?cm_sp=all:allPage:Header_ESpot_V2:3:always_on:price-beat-guarantee

Our Price Beat Guarantee includes products you find online - as long as the
item is identical and in stock. When assessing the PBG from online stores we
also take into account the added cost of delivery to your location (if any). If
the identical, in stock product can be purchased and delivered to your location
via an online store for a total price lower than the one we are offering, we
will beat that total price by 5%.

Of course you would need to check whether the best offer you find meet ALL of
Officeworks price comparison criteria but, in the past, I have found that, for
instance, showing my iPad with the competing offer live on screen can work.

I like dealing with Officeworks because, besides having a store here in Albany,
I have always got the best price and never had a problem having a faulty item
replaced.

DISCLOSURE – I also own Wesfarmers shares  ;o)

Regarding multiple users and even one user and multiple machines (eg desktop
and laptop) I’m pretty sure that the “Office 2019 Home and Business for Mac” is
only for 1PC.

However, I find that the current stand-alone licensing setup is very confusing
– it used to be much simpler – the Mac & PC versions were sold (& priced)
separately and you could get versions for a single installation or for 5
installations (not counting the various business multi-user deals).

This was what I used to use and I seem to remember (long time ago though!) that
once you used the licence key on one computer it would no longer work for
subsequent installs – however you could find ways to get it installed on
multiple computers (eg when you migrated to a new computer) and they would all
work – but only one at a time – eg if it was open on the laptop and you wanted
to open the desktop installation you would have to quit the laptop version
first.

However, all that seems to have changed and, since I was curious, a quick look
today showed:

Most places offered Microsoft Office Home and Business 2019 which was good for
1 PC/Mac – eg, for $259:

https://www.jw.com.au/microsoft-office-home-and-business-2019

But then there also seems to be a Mac only version – eg for $ 150:

https://softwaremart.com.au/collections/office/products/dfddsaw443ds6dsfgdfgdf4332432gfh7gf7h7gfh78gf-gf78hgf65hfg-jdgfjhgfhgf-9gfh8f7ggenuine-microsoft-office-2019-home-and-business-for-apple-ma7dfgdfgdf-dfg9dfg9dfgsadas8sa8-f5435438ds8676ds7f87sd766?variant=17834645323833

But there does also seem to be multi-key versions of Office 2019 Professional
Plus (for Windows 10 only):

https://softwaremart.com.au/collections/office/products/dfddssdf6490dsad44rgfdg666dsfds6ds7-988dsf8-988-4653-899u87daswervbsd5671-78ghbala-fdsdfsfds0824325435-78-ht66646dsa-dshfhsdfh-dsfds-dsf-rt6898whjfwehj72374327?variant=31036472655970

Which offers pricing of:
1 key for $75
2 keys for $135
5 keys for $225
10 keys for $375
Which seems (relatively) cheap – but Windows only – I could not see a Mac
equivalent

The actual MS site seems to only offer the Office Home & Business 2019 –$349
for 1PC/Mac!!
One-time purchase for 1 PC or Mac
Classic 2019 versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

If you look REALLY hard you can find this page relating to volume licensing –it
really want to direct you to Microsoft 365 but says; For customers who are not
yet ready for the cloud, Office offers three suites that are available through
volume licensing—Office Professional Plus 2019, Office Standard 2019, and
Office Standard 2019 for Mac (which seems to include the product offerings I
showed above from softwaremart):

https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/business/microsoft-office-volume-licensing-suites-comparison

but it does not lead to any actual specific package offerings and wants you to
“Contact a Microsoft Certified Partner to find the best solution for your
needs”.

Good luck making sense of it all!!

Forgive the ramble on – hopefully something might have been useful!

Cheers

Neil

Hi Stephen, I’ve been a bit busy but this morning I had a look at the Software
Depot site and I saw the Office 2019 Home and Business for Mac was on sale for
$227. On other site I saw better priced (~$100) so I think that is an option
but I will pursue further for a multi user licence for others in the house too.

My Dad had used City Software as a provide he used for many years, plus others
too. Will check around for best option.

Regards

Pete

Thanks for this Ronni. I have yet to make the move to Catalina (2013 MBP
Retina). There is only one reason I am holding off for now and that is because
I have an MS Office licence installation (2011 - I know it’s a bit ancient) but
it is 32 bit and will be defunct when I shift to Catalina. I prefer the owned
software approach to the web licensing with annual renewal fees for what is a
VERY infrequently used software but no driving force to make a shift to Office
2016 or later.

But, notwithstanding the above, I have my Music library on an external drive
(along with my Photos library) and I wondered if this fact will be handled
seamlessly with upgrade to Catalina and subsequent opening of Apple Music app
and Finder etc?

Pete.

Hi Peter,

As Stephen has mentioned...

With macOS Catalina, your iTunes media library is now available in the Apple
Music app, Apple TV app, Apple Books app, and Apple Podcasts app. And Finder is
where you can manage and sync content on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Hi Peter.

I am pretty sure iTunes was replaced with Apple Music and Apple TV.

Hi everyone
I removed iTunes from my computer some time ago, but find that perhaps I was
too hasty. Can I download iTunes from Apple? if so from where?
Kind regards
