To keep this up to date:
I have a patch for this mostly working now. As in it annotates the link
correctly 90% of the time.
I am now trying to tweak it to get it correct always (it still has a tendency
to act greedily when finding the URL), or sometimes upon deletion of text,
whilst processing the blip can result in an assertion failure because the
length unexpectedly changed.
