Hi all you fans of TAGS. This is my first reply and have been reading "Miss
Crump's Blackboard" located on TAGSRWC's web site and recently responded to a
question there about who Mr. Schwump was in real life. Have never read about
his
real personna in any of TAGS books I have. I wondered if Harvey Bullock would
know or any other fan (no guessing now, we fans really want to know his TRUE
identity). Thanks and a Happy 2000 to you and yours. Sincerely Dick "Hey
Ope"
Kandalec of Mentor OH.
(ANSWER FROM ALLAN: Welcome to Mayberry in a speaking role, Dick! It's good
to have you. As far as Mr. Schwamp (that's the spelling we found in the
scripts and it's now the way it's spelled in the Beck & Clark TAGS Book...in
the original book it was spelled Schwump) goes.....nobody knows the mans REAL
name. We have asked EVERY cast member and writer I've ever met and none of
them know his name. Richard O. Linke didn't remember Mr. Schwump's name
either. His real name is one of the great trivia bits that we still don't
know the answer.)

Just saw the answer to the question I had posted earlier... in the
episode "Barney's Physical", they celebrate Barn's 5th year on the
force. A direct contradiction to the reference of Barney being on the
force for 10 years in the "Citizen's Arrest" episode!

In reflecting over the past year & our involvement with TAGS the following
things come to mind: 1.) Our meetings every other month of " A Dollar and a
Quarter " chapter. 2.) Our memory-making weekend in September when we went
to Mayberry Days & saw George Lindsey. 3.) Our chapters first summer picnic
that was covered by our local paper with a half-page spread. 4.) Getting TV
Land on our cable system just in time for TAGS to premiere. 5.) The New
Years Eve Marathon(what a great tribute to TAGS). 6.) Recieving Don Knott's
Autobiography signed by Don as a Christmas present. 7.) The daily update
from WBMUTBB, and the Newsomes wonderful internet Christmas card, (just
super!!!!!!). 8.) All of you who love TAGS and keep it alive. Happy New
Year..........Dave & Pattie Millard, Chapter Leaders of " A Dollar and a
Quarter " chapter.

What are the chances that Weavers will ever carry TAGS wrapping paper?
Lately, I've seen I Love Lucy and The Three Stooges paper, and it's so
cute! If the characters were in black and white with a colored
background, it could be used for any occasion/holiday....
(ANSWER FROM BERT MILLER: Well, Mr. Weaver doesn't *create* the products that
Weaver's sales. He only sales what other folks have a licenses to make and
sell. I'm SURE that if somebody gets a licenses to make TAGS wrapping paper
that Weaver will sell it. Right now...I haven't heard of anything like that
in the works.)

Besides losing weight and stop biting my nails, I have decided to make a
few resolutions that I can actually keep!
I resolve to tape all the TAGS episodes as they are shown on TVLand
I will try not to make a big moulage out of little things
When I am at a party I will announce that I am "going to try some of
those groovy chips over there"
I am going to approach my household chores with the skill and
cheerfulness of Aunt Bee
And lastly, I am going to try to remember all the lessons of how to a
gracious and caring person that I have learned by watching Andy!
Have a safe and TAGS-filled New Year!

Subject: Andy appearance
Just to ensure my reputation, Mr. Mulik may be right about Andy never
appearing at what is known as a fan gathering, but he did indeed appear
at the open theater at Disney's MGM Studios theme park back in 1992 (I
believe that was the year) when he was there to be inducted into the
Television Academy Hall of Fame. He answered questions from fans, told
charming anecdotes and our chapter was allowed to go up on the stage
after the event and meet him, as well as Don Knotts, Sheldon Leonard,
George Lindsey and Aaron Ruben. Andy did not sign any autographs to my
knowledge but Don and George did. We have our own snapshots, a video
shot by Bob Denanny of Brazil, Indiana, who was able to join us, as well
as copies from Disney's archives, which were furnished to Jim Clark. He
graciously provided copies to us. I didn't realize even at that time,
how rare the occasion might be but I am surely grateful to have
experienced it.
Best wishes to you and yours, Aunt Bee of Orlando
P.S. This week a local reporter wrote a big article on the move of
Mayberry to TVLand and mentioned our chapter so we're hoping for some
renewed local interest.
(NOTE FROM ALLAN: Daddy...you are soooooo right! Andy was at Disney, as you
know and stated correctly, but that wasn't really a "fan gathering" or a
reunion. It was to honor the inductees to the Television Academy Hall of
Fame. What some of the autograph salesmen tell folks is that they got Andy's
autograph at a reunion even in NC which is a out and out fib. Andy's never
done an even like that. Thanks for reminding us of the Disney MGM
appearance!!! I saw the photo in THE BULLET and I guess that was yours.
Great job helping Jim get it!)

In the episode where Barney has been a deputy for 5 years and gets a
watch with the word FIVE inscribed on the back. What is the month and day of
his fifth anniversary as a lawman?
Barney: looking at his new waterproof wristwatch,"stainless steel.....WOW!"

Howdy!
The marathon was good, and it seemed that several contained the entire
episode (or so it appeared!). One thing that I thought I heard was: on
episode #106 (Citizens Arrest), Andy mentioned in the beginning that Barney
was celebrating 10 years as a Deputy. Then the next episode (#131,
Barney's Physical) I could have sworn that I heard Barney mention that it
was the anniversary of his 5th year as a Deputy. Or, did I misunderstand...?
BTW, over the years I have heard several people mention the fact that
Barney's pant legs go from wet to dry inside the gold truck after Gomer
pours gasoline into the gun port. I finally noticed that today!
Well, another year, and now another station with TAGS .... I am just happy
that we can still view TAGS!
Happy New Year to one and all in this wonderful group!!
Thanks, and happy motoring!

Subject: Appreciation
Just a quick note before I begin my New Year's partying:
I attended my first Mayberry Days this year. I'm from NJ, and couldn't
convince any friends or family to accompany me. I was a lone "Yankee" taking
a few vacation days in the South. Twenty years ago I spent 4 wonderful years
attending JMU, experienced all the northerner jokes, and expected to be
bombarded with them again. Not the case!!!
I made many new friends that weekend, and want to thank all TAGS fans for
making me feel at home, and a member of a family. I especially extend thanks
to The Barney Chapter of Greensboro, NC for their hospitality and friendship.
See you in Mt. Airy in 2000 for the 40th Celebration!

Allan and list,
I think it would be appropriate for fans of TAGS to send emails of thanks
to TBS and WGN for their unfailing support of TAGS over the years. While
we may have disagreed with the time slots in which Mayberry was shown, I
don't think we can fault these cable stations for they commitment to
TAGS.
Could someone list the email addresses in a forthcoming issue of this
list?
Thanks, and Happy 2000 to all!

Welcome to the new members of WBMUTBB. It's been awhile since I have posted,
but I always like to welcome new members to our little corner of Mayberry. I
am sure y'all will love it here, and if you haven't done it yet, change all
your computer sounds to TAGS wavs. You can find some great ones at our site,
"Them Timers are Tricky", and the fastest way to get there, is to go to
TAGSRWC site. I think Allan has the link changed there now, since we
moved. If not, just e-mail us at: [EMAIL PROTECTED], and I'll send you,
or make you any wav you might
want. I am also working on a new site for some TAGS tin sign clocks I am
building now. See y'all in Mayberry!!!!

In answer to the Groovy Miss Poovy, in "Citizen's Arrest," Gomer said
to Barney, "You just go up a alley and yell fish. I said it and I ain't
takin' it back!"
Welcome to all our new members, but a special one to Dave Pickle. Gosh, but
I like that name!
As our beloved Barney says, "I don't know how I can face the future knowing
those eight quarts of pickles are in it." (Might not have quoted him
exactly right, but Lydia has Slim Whitman playing real loud in the
background and it's hard to think straight.) Laura Lee Hobbs.
