Subject: Various Comments on TVLand
Hey Folks,
Just a few notes & comments on the new TVLand airings of TAGS:
>in setting up my recording schedule, I see that the 10pm show and the
>1am show are different episodes. Later in the week, sometimes the 1am
>episode is a repeat of the 7pm show or of a showing a few days before.
>Just wanted to warn folks to keep an eye on the listings in case you're
>one of us who are attemping to tape all the shows!
According to TV Now and TVLand's websites the 7pm airing is the same as the
10pm showing, but the 1 am showing is a new episode. So for those of us
planning to tape all of 'em you'll need to tape the 7pm OR 10pm showing and
the 1am showing to avoid missing episodes (All times eastern BTW).
According to TV Now they are going to show the Christmas episode in its
usual spot coming up too, which means there will be no episodes skipped.
(TBS and WGN often wouldn't show this episode during their runs unless it
was near Christmas)
Also for those of us who enjoy taping the shows WITHOUT commercials here is
alittle trick I discovered, watch several episodes at the separate times
and pay close attention to the times that the commercials start. I've
found from the first two episodes that commercials typically occur at 11
and 22 minutes into the show. If this pattern holds true with alittle
resetting of the VCR clock it might be possible to use timer record and
still take out the majority if not all of the commercials.
As for the editing, it does appear the episodes are going to be broadcast
with epilogues (GO TV LAND!), which means they are employing a strategy
similar to that of WFMY in NC, they cut segments in the middle of the
episode instead of the epilogue.

Regarding Pat Coleman's suggestion to make wrapping paper. I never
thought of it when I gave my Mayberry fans the Johnny Lightening cars I
purchased from eBay this year. I'll keep it in mind for next Christmas. I
have however, enlarged the Mayberry Dollar I received a few years ago and
used it as note paper.
By the way, Ernst T. Bass is now getting creative, my friend Barb, aka
Thelma Lou, gave me a flat piece of rock with a snowman painted on it. A pin
back was glued on the back. Two years ago she gave me a bigger flat rock
with a Santa painted on it. What a trip? Isn't it neat there are so many
creative people out there. Now will somebody send me an apple pie or some
fried chicken like Aunt Bee used to make. Yum! Yum!
That might be an idea for some Mayberry Club to have a progressive
dinner, or a dinner feature favorite foods of the characters. Jim Clark and
Ken Becks books and cookbooks are great resources. Happy New Year everyone.

Howdy!
A question and a comment for everyone:
With TAGS and Gomer Pyle both on TV Land now, does anyone know where I can
find an episode guide to Gomer Pyle? There are several Gomer Pyle episodes
that I simply MUST SEE!!
Also, I noticed this weekend that the Dick Van Dyke Show is catching up to
TAGS at the "Vote For Your Favorite TV Series Web Site":

Thanks to your fellow Mayberrians, choices now include Old Man Kelsey's

That brings to mind something I've wondered for quite a while. Does anybody
know of a way to make Mayberry wallpaper border? I mean real wallpaper that
you hang on the wall, not wallpaper for a computer monitor. It should be
possible to make it using a printer, but first you'd have to have blank
paper and probably some sort of waterproof ink. Anybody ever try this?

Subject: cards
>>>...shoebox cards (a tiny division of hallmark) used to have a card with
barney (in his deputy uniform),...i haven't seen that card since...also i
don't know if they made any other "mayberry character" cards
>>
Those cards came out in the spring of 1995, but some Hallmark stores might
still have a few on hand. There were eight different designs in the series.
All depicted a scene from TAGS, most with funny words added in speech
balloons.
Hallmark has made a few other TAGS cards over the years. I've seen a
Father's Day card that shows Andy and Opie fishing, and another one that was
blank inside with Barney's famous "bug-eyed" photo on the front.
>>>...my dad just loved the (IAWL) paper and the whole family commented on
it..heck next year i'll save on presents and just buy a roll of their
favorite wrapping paper!
>>>
But when they unwrap it, how will they know when to stop? They might end up
with just the cardboard tube!

Subject: stamps
>>>I'm campaigning for a stamp in this year to commemorate TAGS' 40th
anniversary, especially since this latest series of decade stamps featured
Lucy and All in the Family. I tried once but no got nowhere so I'm
determined to try again.
>>>
That's a great idea, but USPS regulations require that for a person to be
depicted on a stamp, they must have been dead for at least ten years (except
for U.S. presidents, who only have to be dead). Lucy and Desi both qualify;
the All in the Family stamp "squeaked by" because no actors were mentioned
or depicted in the design.
Of course, it's possible that some foreign country might issue TAGS stamps.
There are several tiny island nations that sell stamps depicting all sorts
of celebrities, living and dead. The stamps are not really intended to be
used for postage; they're just printed up in the hopes that collectors will
buy them. In most cases, they're printed in the USA and never even sold in
the countries that "issued" them.

I was disappointed to find that TV Land is not showing the uncut versions. I
think
the originals ran 22 1/2 minutes. If my VCR is right They are leaving out 1
1/2
minutes. There's a local channel here in NC that ran some uncut episodes and
I
saw a scene with Dub Taylor as a mail man that I had never seen before.
Its not the one where he tries to steal Barney's wanted posters, " Aw you
clerk".
He was carrying a mail bag and arguing with Barney out on the street. I was
looking
forward to seeing some more of these little lost jewels. We should keep a
diary
of things we know are left out. In episode 2 someone wrote that they left
out some of the people Barney frisked. There was also a little scene with
Emma and the convict, where he laughs and she giggles then he frowns and
sticks the gun to her
face. Happy New Year all.

I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Like all of you I spent the
weekend watching Andy and reading Barney Fife and Other Characters I Have
Known. Can anyone tell me if they are copies of some of Don Knott's variety
shows or some of his specials he talks about in his book? Also what is the
story behind some of the books being autographed. I got an autographed
version and really enjoyed reading about Ole Barns' life. My kids loved
watching Andy dance during the marathon they couldn't wait for commercials
so they could watch Andy. It was a real hoot.

To Whom This May Concern: Is there a place where I can find out an answer to a
question that I have that concerns the Andy Griffith Show? I want to know
about
the 2 different Floyds at the barber shop. I haven't noticed before until I
watched an episode on Ch55 in Conroe,Tx a suburb of Houston, the one about the
stranger that comes to town and tries to act like he has always lived in
Mayberry
that there were different Floyd's. This one seems to predate the one I call
the
cool Floyd, figety and absent minded, what happened to him or if he took over
after
the cool Floyd why did the cool Floyd leave? If it please let me know I am
new to
your great news letter, which by the way I thank you for enlisting me on, and I
don't know if its a place to find out this kind of information on the site at
yet,if so please advise me. Thank you a long time fan of Andy Griffith.
