All I can say is .... keep trying! I have stuck my head in before too, and
found the place empty. It is only a matter of time until we get a few
folks meeting there, and then, look out! It certainly would be a fun time!
Perhaps (?) we could do as they do in a Gilligans Island fan club that is
similar (but, obviously not as good as) WBMUTBB: in their e-mail
newsletter, they post the hours that the chat room will be "open." This
definately increases the odds that more than one person will be there
a-visiting at the same time!

Thanks, and happy motoring

Subject: Biography of Don Knotts

Now I'm really confused. It seems to me that the prevailing story
behind Don leaving TAGS was that Andy had told him that he was only
going to do the show for five years. With that in mind, Don went ahead
and committed to movies.
So now, Biography gives a different story that Don specifically and
independently left TAGS to do movies.
Has anyone talked to Don personally about this?

- -Bob

(NOTE FROM ALLAN: Well, since I hear the story right from Don's girlfriend,
Francey, I would say that the original version is what I'll stick with. The
Biography version could have been partially true and our version could have
been the whole truth. Don DID have to decide to go into movies after that 5th
season either way so exactly why he did it could just have been left off on
Biography.)

Folks,

I got this message today and I thought it was something you might all want to
see!! Way to go Atlanta!!! -- Allan

Subj: TAGS in Atlanta!
Date: 1/6/00 5:47:27 PM Central Standard Time
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Rivero Fernando)

Hi! Just wanted to get the word out that TAGS premieres in Atlanta on
January 10th on a new station:

"Hotlanta 34" WHOT-TV in Metro Atlanta on Media One cable channel 14.
It's on every weeknight at 6 & 6:30.

The Andy Griffith Show is a huge favorite, and we are very excited to have
it in Atlanta back-to-back every night. We're promoting it really heavily
with a campaign of "A Classic Never Goes Out of Style". Featuring a
GAP-style ad, a Mayberry fashion show, and "Andymon": a spoof of the
ultra-popular Pokemon fad, with the message being, "The Latest Craze is a
Classic".

In any event, please update the listings so TAGS fans in the Atlanta area
can continue to enjoy it.

All the best,
Fernando Rivero

What a thrill these last few days have been thanks to TV Land. I thought
my TAGS thrills were over for a while because my cable company did not have
TV Land. Lo and behold, right before the New Year, it was added. (Reckon
why that happened?) But the cable company has not yet fine tuned the cable
access. So while most of you are enjoying the cleaned up pictures which
are even better than the original. But on my set, it is 1960 all over
again. It looks like it did when I saw them the first time. (Except I no
longer wear a cowboy hat and Roy Rogers pajamas.)

One final philosophical meandering. And Allan, I hope I am not violating
rule number 2. But my inquiring mind needs to know. I saw where Ted
Turner and Jane Fonda are separating. Ted loses Andy, Ted loses Jane.
 Coincidence? I think not.

Lots of luck to you and yours.

Larry

I noticed in the TV Guide that WGN is showing TAGS in a one hour slot from
5am to 6am. I hope that my old eyes aren't deceiving me.

(NOTE FROM ALLAN: I **Believe** that TV Guide needs to update their listing.)

In the epidsode where Andy's right hand is bandaged (he told Aunt Bee
he had "a tussle with some prisoners"), how did he really hurt his hand? I
heard that he got mad at something Don Knotts did, and threw his fist
into a wall. So, what's the real story?
>>

Andy wears the bandage in two episodes, "Aunt Bee the Warden," which you
mentioned, and the following episode, "The County Nurse." The story I heard
was the Andy lost his temper at home and punched a wall (seems like maybe I
read this in an old TV Guide). Since his character was a lawman, it was
easy for the writers to say the bandage was the result of an injury
sustained in the line of duty.

I missed the Don Knotts special on A&E but I felt really bad about that, but I
caught Andy on there the next night,it's to bad that none of the other
sitcoms didn't make it,I bet "The headmaster"would've been a good sitcom.And
I don't remember the variety show that had Andy,Don Knotts, and Jim Nabors to
much,(thats to bad to because I think that would've been a good show also.I
know quite a few people who liked the "Matlock" show to(personally I liked
Andy better playing the sheriff than a lawyer). Also I read in the last
chapter where Don Knotts in his biography felt bad about his career,on not
getting the right parts and such,I think Don Knotts was a great actor and hes
the one that made the Andy Griffith show what it is today. He was a great
Barney Fife.(as they called him one bullet Barney,Fife the fierce, and Barney
the bulk head). Bye for now an Andy fan in Louisville.

Does anyone know the street address of the home that was used as the home of
the Taylors in TAGS? I'm pretty sure it's in Pomona, CA. Apparently Mark &
Brian (morning radio personalities) did a live show from the home years ago.
Ron

(ANSWER FROM ALLAN: No...the home that the Taylor's "lived" in was on the
backlot of the studio. It wasn't a real home where someone lived. If you look
closely in some scenes you can see "Main Street's" buildings from Andy's
front yard.) >>

Allan, I'm sure you're more knowledgeable than me on this topic, but I
specifically remember Mark and Brian making a big deal about doing their show
from the home used in the filming of TAGS. It makes sense that the house
would be on the studio lot, however I wonder if the house in question was
used to model the home after. Pomona is an older town with a lot of homes
similar to the one used in TAGS. I'll see what I can dig up. If you're not
familiar with Mark & Brian they're the ones who hosted the TAGS Christmas
Special about 9-10 years ago on FOX.

I DO know a real cop and probably could get some tape if I sit up and beg in
the right tone of voice. WOW is all I can say - what a great idea and what a
great bathroom. My bathroom is decorated in Otis and it makes me want to
just throw out all the moonshine bottles and start over.

Subject: Decorating ideas

I have my office at work decorated in TAGS. I had a couple of the posters
(Ange and Opie in opening scene and Barney in uniform) nicely matted and
framed and I have half a dozen smaller framed TAGS pictures and the pennant
hanging on the walls. (Got it all at Weaver's.) I happen to find in an
antique shop in the Texas panhandle an old Avon men's cologne/talc bottle
that looks like the courthouse phone (cheaper than $400 for real phone but
not as big). You wouldn't believe how Mayberry relaxes people when they
come in my office. They are tense when they come in (I work in financial
aid and you know how anything with money makes people tense) but as soon as
they see the TAGS pictures, we are good friends. If I had a dollar for
every time I heard, "I love that show," I could give everyone financial aid
out of my pocket! The thing I love about the Barney poster is that no
matter where you stand, he is looking at you (kind of like the picture in
The Haunted House). I also have a 5x7 framed photo of my husband and
someone was admiring the Barney poster and I was telling them how I always
tell my husband if he didn't come along when he did I would have married Don
Knotts if he had come along! Well, they looked at the 5x7 of my husband and
then at the poster of Barney and said, "Well, you can tell by the size of
the pictures who you love most!" Not true, however! My husband is the
greatest and enjoys TAGS just as much as I do!

May God bless Allan richly this year! "Outsiders" may think it ridiculous
to spend so much energy on something like TAGS, but I am blessed by the work
you do here. Your patience, gentleness, and concern always speak volumes
about the God you serve.

Aunt Bee let Dickie the Parakeet get out of his cage, but then in the
epilogue, good ole Dickie flew back inside again making everybody happy.
However, like all the other pets Opie prayed for in that first episode,
Dickie was never mentioned (to my knowledge, anyway) again. Lover of pets
