Actually despite being considered a failure on American TV "Land of the
Giants" has a cult following here and is absolutely *huge* in the UK,
possibally bigger than TAGS is here. Remember it ain't called the World Wide
Web fer nothing... so I believe the poll is a little more accurate than you
give it credit for at least when it comes to online fans. Of course "LotG" is
*Sci-Fi* and sci-fi fans have a larger online presence that most genres. I'm
sure there are legions of TAGS fans who don't know what the difference
between software and hardware is, and could care less where Amazon's and
E-bay stock is holding. I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just that there
are still *some* members of the older generations that could care less for
the information superhighway...

I have mentioned it before but I want to tell it again. That Emmitt is
one super guy! If you need a AGS wav he has it or can make it and he usually
sends it before the E-mail ink has a chance to dry good! What service! He is
really special for using his time and resources just to help someone find
what they are looking for in sound wavs! He also has a web page that features
some really great clocks that have AGS personalities that are very nicely
done. For you new members who arent familiar with Emmitts Tricky Timers web
page, check it out, you will be glad you did!

what you've got until it is taken away and I thank my lucky stars for =

David Browning is hosting a public safety awards banquet here in Norman,
Oklahoma Tuesday night. It's sponsored by the Norman Chamber of Commerce
and he will be presenting awards for Best Employee, Officer of the Year
and Crime Stopper Awards. Anyway, this may not sound like a big deal to
most of you but I think it is just too cool.

After I fixed Andy up with pretty nurse Peggy, Joe asked me who would
I fix up Helen with, and I really can't think of anyone from Mayberry.
I always kinda figured Helen came to Mayberry in the witness protection
program after writing about that mob in Kansas. I mean, we
never heard her talk of any family or past friends. Always thought that was
rather odd, and so did Lydia. Only weird thing is who in the
world would have chosen the name "Crump," but then maybe that just lent
itself to the realism of it all.
It would also explain why a supposed teacher would spend the time and money
on
a master's degree in journalism (writing a thesis on underworld crime,
of all things--how in the world was that supposed to fit in with working
with small children?). But it was all one big cover up. And Mayberry with
its usually trusting people was perfect!
Maybe that explained the lack of warmth Lydia always felt towards Helen
(course now, Lydia had her eye on Andy and she's just a little
disappointed that none of you has cast a vote for her). Anyway, don't
really know who I choose for Helen. I wasn't around the last time
you all had this debate. How did it end up?
"Love don't hold no stop watch." Andy "flirting" with Thelma Lou
(Allan, was this a little nicer! I really am trying, Debbie.)

No, actually that was an actor named Jack Gilford. He also appeared in the
other Cracker Jack commercials.

Hello Fellow Fans,
I am sure this has come up in the past, but I was watching the Traveling
Salesman/Movie Producer episode on TVLand a week or so ago, when I noticed in
the drug store a stand with an issue of TV Guide. It appeared to have a
picture of Lucille Ball, although I can't be sure. It was in the corner near
the door just above head-level.
I was wondering if anybody else noticed this and if so could it possibly be a
1st edition; I think Lucille Ball was on the first TV Guide.
Please email me if you have an answer.
Thanks,
Russell

Aren't those old commercials fun? I've seen the one you mentioned, but the
guy looks more like Soupy Sales to me.

P.S. I always type two hyphens in front of my name, but when I read the
Digest there are three. I wonder what causes that?

I believe that is Jack Gilford playing the soda jerk.

Another "Andy alum" Makes it Big!
Saw The Green Mile last night, and there he was, as plain as day -- Mr. Sims
from "Barney Fife, Realtor"! In The Green Mile, Dabbs Greer plays an
elderly Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks). Great performance in a great movie. And
for those of you who are leading the Mayberry Bible studies, "Barney Fife,
Realtor" is one of the best regarding honesty and truth.

No, Jeff. That Cracker Jack pitchman is none other than veteran funny man Jack
Gilford. He was the star of a whole series of commercials for Cracker Jack,
and
to my knowledge, he never spoke a single word in any of them! He let his
incredible facial expressions do all the talkin'. Mr. Gilford never appeared
on
TAGS, although he would have been PERFECT for the series!

Just a little vignette for David Cantrell (hope you haven't already heard
this): when Elinor Donahue appeared at the Mayberry event in Anniston,
Alabama back in 1995 I believe it was, she told us a cute story about her
rendition of "Away in a Manger." She said she was so nervous about
singing with the great Andy that she kept goofing up so he suggested they
rehearse for awhile, sitting on the courtroom floor while no one was
supposedly paying any attention. But somebody was taping these songfests
and they ended up dubbing it in while the two of them lipsynced (sp?) in
the actual footage we see. Isn't that charming and just the sort of
thing you'd expect from him? At that event Goober crowned Ellie Miss
Mayberry after all; it was truly a wonderful event and one of the
highlights of my life. We have Joel Laird to thank from the bottom of
our hearts! Aunt Bee of Orlando
