Causby" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Mayberry Sighting Good Morning Mayberry Well, we here in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia are truly enjoying our first rain in over a year and it has been so wonderful to hear it and listen to it for the past two days. Nice and cool, too - low - mid 50's! Just thought I'd share that. Was watching an old movie the other night that I have always enjoyed - "The Five Pennies" with Danny Kaye and in one scene he is singing with several other men doing a "radio" commercial and one of the men was none other than Mayberry's own Glen Cripes! Not sure of Glen's real name, but I know you all know who he is - Barney's secret singing voice. This movie was made about 1960, so he looked much as he did on the AGS. I have watched it many times and never noticed his presence before. I envy all of you getting to watch AGS on TV land. I don't believe my cable at home in Fl has TV Land unless it has been added since I was there last, but I'll be sending them a letter when I get home if they haven't. We do get lots of old shows here tho that I haven't seen on TV in years thru our Orbit satelite and it is really fun to watch some of the old things that were on in the US years ago and some that didn't make much of a hit. Have seen a few AGS folks now and then on some of them. Was watching an episode yesterday I haven't seen in awhile. Gomer's yellow socks (not the porous kind where the hairs on your leg pop through), purple tie with acorns on it and a belt buckle with genuine imitation mother of pearl and the horseshoe buckles on his shoes. It is one of my favorites because of the natural sweetness of Gomer's character comes thru - "I had to go to several places before I found something with a little bit of pink in it....ye flowers....ye corsa----ge" Twouldn't be right for you to go the dance unadorned, Mary Grace" She's niiiiiiice! Berry is waiting at the train station and when they appear the father of his friend looks just like that old man, am I right? At the end of the episode, he is playing checkers with Opie on the front porch. Also, I wanted to answer [EMAIL PROTECTED], I, also cannot find that computer TAGS game someone mentioned was exclusively sold at Walmart. They have checked and rechecked and told me that it can't be ordered through Walmart and that the buyer who supplies them just sends stuff to them at random. Maybe if that person who said that is reading this, she or he can get me a copy and I will be glad to pay them for it, 'cuz I can't find it here!!! It's known as the fake family ploy, something Barney should have known about since he was aware of the fake business card ploy. (And, Joe, I agree with you. Howard and Helen would be perfect for each other. Can you imagine the interesting dinner parties they would have?) Second, Paul, who ever said "Crump" lacked class? I know you're being a nice gentleman to all the fine Crumps in the world, and they are surely many, but we all know a name neither has class or lacks it, only the one who carries it. It just doesn't SOUND pretty to me, (and it didn't to Andy either if you listen to the way he says it that first time to Barney), but that's the funny thing about our names. We get stuck with some real winners sometimes! Like my friend who had to read "Mayor promises to rid city of Hookers." Maxine said her parents, Mr.& Mrs. Hooker nearly died of shame. (For those who want to know, Max is Lydia.) You can imagine what growing up with that last name meant. It meant get a sense of humor or die. I read in "Dear Ann Landers" that one woman whose last name was Hooker later married and became a Tramp! I think things like that are a hoot! Third, didn't Barney refer to his eyes as "these baby blues" once? And aren't they really brown? And Paul I know you will know this answer. "I feel sorry for you, baby. You had your chance to fly with me...Now the balloon has gone up without you." One thing that suprised me was when he talked about starting out as a director and people not taking him seriously. I also have a copy of a picture of my dad standing with the Moravian church band as he and Andy played in it together. My dad went on to direct this band for about 40 years after Ed Mickey retired. Rev. Mickey was the one to get Andy started with music lessons. Been a fan ever since! Recently Andy borrowed a tuba from the band ( for an upcoming movie )and Emmitt Forrest took it to him.
