Hey, gang! I just went over to the Mayberry.com and visited the Bulletin,
and boy there are some funny stuff over there. It's been too
long since I was over there (I keep forgetting about it), so I wanted to
remind you all about it. One post asked if Barney's mother ever appeared on
the show, and the answer is, of course, she did in the second episode "The
Man Hunt." She was patted down by Barney, and her
one line was "But Barney, I'm your mother." However, she was a very
plump lady, in contrast to Barney's description that the mark of the
Fife's was "wiriness." Tim wrote in maybe that's why Barney didn't recognize
her! Even ol' Lydia almost smile at that one.
Remember Barney's words: "My mother was the same way. She could just
eat and eat and eat. And it never went to fat. It all went to muscle."
(Andy--"I remember that about your mother." And that is just sooo
Southern. Those kind of little touches about the South and its people are
priceless.) Of course, if you want to get technical,
Barney's mother wasn't really a Fife...at least I hope not of the same
family his father was, but anyway it was established Barney thought of
her as wiry. This is getting way over my head, I've got a dime store to run
& gold trucks to look out for...Laura Lee Hobbs

Subject: Johnny Coons
This is to Dan and it's about Johnny Coons sighting and another question
about a recurring character.
I agree that Johnny's face is priceless. Do you know if actors receive
residuals if they only "appear" on camera? (This question my be moot
for TAGS anyway, but what about for more recent shows?)
Also, there is an attractive woman who is in a lot of the background
shots. She's a younger middle age, say upper 30's lower 40's, light
brown hair. On the episode where Barney is trying to fix Andy up with
a wife (he invites a group of girls over to his house every night), while he
and Thelma Lou are talking out by the Court House, TL says hey to this lady
and calls her name as she walks by (and sitting here
right now, I want to say Octavia, but I know most that's wrong). Any-
way, Barney starts to write it down, and TL says, "She's married."
Another clue, she wears the collar of her dress turned up. Thanks a
lot for your help. Was she related to anyone, I'm just curious?

Good afternoon from Tennessee! Great news about Don Knotts
getting his own star. He's had one in my mind for many years now.
I'm looking for an autographed copy of his new book? Can anyone
tell me where to buy one?

I only saw the last couple seconds on one of those entertainment shows of
Don Knotts getting his star on Hollywood Blvd. I'm so sorry I missed it
so thanks Allan for including that press release! I must say, he enjoys
a fabulous reputation for even the irreverent DJ on our local country
station mentioned it this morning with nothing but good to say (and for
him, that's monumental) so I was real tickled!
I was in WalMart this morning and all the Andy computer games are gone.
The salesman who was there said to his knowledge it was a promotional
item for the holidays and probably won't be back. Shuckey darn - if I'd
have known that I would've scarfed them up to send to those of you out
there who can't find it. I'm so glad I got one even though I haven't
upgraded my computer yet in order to play it! These electronal marvels
elude me!!
I'm also tickled at the fans of Johnny Coons for I am one too. He just
looked like a real nice man no matter where you spotted him in Mayberry.
I'm just sorry we never got to hear his voice. Does anyone know if he is
still with us?

Boy oh boy, we got so many new people in this part-a town, I believe
Barney is gonna have to go out and nail up a new stop sign...when he
gets the work order. I'd like to say a special "hey" to all the
Midwesterners who just joined...Indiana (like me) Ohio, Ill, etc.
One of you asked about special events, reunions etc. I'll have to help
our host put in a commercial here. If you're on this Email, somehow you
found the TAGSRRC website, right?. You really need to go back and spend
some time there checkin' things out. First of all, they just fixed it
up, like that old house they fixed up like a showplace near the entrance
to Mayberry. It's got a brand spankin new look, lotsa links, to trivia
facts & such-as that. One of those links says "Events Calendar" If you
haven't been to the website this week, just stop and go there now. I'll
hold yer place right 'CHERE
Go on now, minimize this and go the the web
http://www.mayberry.com/
select TAGSRWC browse around for awhile
are ya back? cool stuff huh, and its mostly free!
Thanks to all of the contributors, and Allan there's most-of what a
Griffith lovin fan could want to know (and you can order books from
Weavers to fill in the rest).
You all know Allan "Floyd" Lawson don't you. His nicknames around
Mayberry here are:
Fast-fingers Floyd, Awesome Newsome Lawson, Floyd the Beast
Allan Scissor-Hands, Ally-Pally-Pooh, Reliable Allan Newsome,
A. Newsome MB esq. (Mayberry Barber Esquire Club), the Scamp
Funny Business "Al" gets-it, Allan Puddintame, Jan's Man
but mostly we just call 'em...ta thank 'em He goes to way yonder too
much trouble for us.
Congrats Don Knotts on your Star! (does it say 5 on the back?)
Harvey hope yer better yet, Buddy

Hello everyone,
Conor and I would like to say congratulation to Mr.
Don Knotts for getting his star in Hollywood. We
watched him on Biography, and he is funny and very
smart too. My dad told us that he worked very hard and
waited a long time to get his star, and that a lot of
other actors who didn't work so hard got their stars
before him. We are just glad that he has one now
because that shows how great he really is.
We would like to know how many other TAGS actors have
stars in Hollywood?
Thank you,
Kyle and Conor Jeness

I love TV Land! I dont recall seeing this epilog from today's show
("Crime-Free Mayberry") of TAGS in years and years! I cracked up at
that song Barney and Andy sang! While I realize TV Land is cutting in
other places, they get my vote for getting so many of the final scenes
back in place....it's almost like watching a new show!

I'd say they're worth no more than $10 each. You might still be able to
find them at Toys R Us at the original price (about $4).
