Many folks have guessed Buddy Ebsen. It is true that he was considered for
the role of the tin woodsman and that he did make a recording of the "If I
Only...." song, but his version was not used in the movie.

Here's a hint: the actor's voice was used as someone else's voice

Here's a good question for you really intense TAGS trivia types. I saw
the Mountain Wedding episode the other day with Denver Pyle as Mr.
Darling. It suddenly occurred to me that Denver and Gomer share the same
last name. Is this more than a coincidence?

There is a website I just came across called TVParty. It has a section
dedicated to never seen or seldom seen clips form shows. There are clips
there from the Andy Griffth Show. I think you need RealPlayer to view/listen
to them, but that's a free download if you don't already have it.

The URL is below.

Paul, I'm guessing too, but was it the Wizard himself, "The Great and
powerful Oz"? Seems to me I've seen that man behind the curtain on an
episode of TAGS, too. Don't remember the actor's name though. Am i right?

Has anyone ever noticed that the lady in the commercial for POP SECRET
popcorn is none other than Miss Rosemary, one of Barney's first girlfriends?
This van tracks her down to her house and whisks her away rocking chair and
all, to what looks like the White House. Just noticed that last night.

Paul are you referring to "Annabelle"? Where Barney is conducting his survey
of possibles for Andy with Thelma Lou on the sidewalk beside her car. Diana
(Vicki Harms) Can I have a bite of your snowcone, Barn?

Why is it that Andy and Barney go to two different class reunions? One is
the class of "45 and the other episode is "47(i believe). Did they not
graduate at the same time? Both there photos are in the 'Cutlass' yearbook.
Another thing, why did Thelma Lou leave Mayberry and get married to someone
else? What happened to poor Barney, did she leave him or the other way
around? I know he went to work in Raleigh, but why did they separate? Am I
missing something? Diana (Vicki Harms)

Hey, everyone! Allan's given me permission to post this (thanks!), and I
just wanted to drop a quick line to the digest, letting everyone know about
another great TAGS resource available.

We have an Andy Griffith Show mailing list that I've found is a great
complement to the digest. We are approaching 100 members, and we all love
talking about anything related to Mayberry. It's called "tagslist" and we
have a really good group of people....it's a nice little community, and
everyone here is cordially invited to join us.

I want to stress that this is an entirely different resource from the
digest....if you are going to subscribe to only one, stay here with the
digest. Heck, I'm subscribed and I read the digest every day. Tagslist,
though, sends the messages out in real time, as they are posted to the list
(rather than in one big email every day). It fosters a little more personal
communication, and we really love it.

Anyway, I hope all of you will subscribe by sending a message to
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or by going to my homepage at
<http://members.xoom.com/cincireds/andy.html>.

Thanks for listening! Come join the list.....we look forward to meeting you
all further!

Anita's observation about how fast Clara seemed to clean up the house while
Andy was on his way to get Aunt Bee from the bus has been something I''ve
pondered myself. After much meditation, there are 2 possible explanations
that I can think of (1) Clara was probably quick to get the job done
because she wasn't getting paid by the hour ; (B) Andy stopped by the diner
for lunch (avocado stuffed with raisins and a lemon phosphate). Any other
ideas?

What is the history behind the first show? According to the FAQ, TAGS was a
spinoff, but from what?

All those dates are confusing, aren't they. Here's another one
that recently made me put the bucket on to "thank" and I still
can't resolve it. We know that ole Ange and Barn graduated from
high school in '45 or '48, depending on which reunion episode you
take from. Now think back to the "Quiet Sam" episode. Barney
reminds Andy that Andy failed Ms. Webster's biology class in the
spring of 1938. In Michigan, we get biology in about the tenth
grade. Apparently Andy was taking such an advanced course in,
what, the second or fifth grade, depending.

Hmmmmm

Subject: Mystery lady & wormster

Thanks, Paul, for your information, but the lady I'm referring to isn't Mrs.
Jackson (Otis--"Barney, Mrs. Jackson just hit me over the head with her
purse. What'll I do?" Barney--"HIT HER BACK!")nor did she have a speaking
part in "A Wife for Andy." My lady is
a little older than Thelma Lou or Helen, and I believe her name in the
"A Wife for Andy" episode was AnnaBelle (a dear friend sent it to me,
so please forgive me if I have it wrong already). Barney & TL were standing
out by the court house and TL said hey to AnnaBelle as she walked by (her
dress collar turned up as usual). Barney was about to write her name down
when TL had to tell him she was married. It was then that Barney saw Andy
walking with Helen, and the rest is history.
I don't recall this lady ever speaking; she rarely did anything but
walk down the street or maybe once open a door. But she looked so dignified,
I thought maybe she had been a former model. I also thought
perhaps she was Jean Howard, Ron's mom, but no bio has ever mentioned
that Jean was ever connected with the show the way Rance was, so I doubt it.
I guess her name will remain a mystery the same as Mr. Shlump (?), though
why no one can remember who played this poor soul
is a mystery to me.
Now, one other question, and I will keep my mouth shut. Promise.
The credits at the end of the episode where Barney gives Andy and Helen a
day off to themselves, list someone called a "wormster."
Now, what the heck is a wormster? Was this some kind of a joke? Some
kind of a regional thing? Being disrespectful to the game warden for
giving out a ticket to a sheriff? All the other credits are accounted
for, including the warden's, so I'm left with that wormster thang.
We have George, tv repair man, Howard Morris; the guy handing Andy the
telephone so he could call Gomer at the court house who, I guess was the
Justice of the Peace; all the usual suspects.
And then we have at the bottom of the credits, left hand side, Wormster, and
a name to go with it. Please, won't somebody tell me
what a wormster is? Was a scene cut out? Is this wormster guy the dude
who sold worms to Andy?
Somehow I just know I could be a better dime store clerk, a keener
gold truck watcher, a loyaler friend, a briefer TAGS poster (and bless his
heart, wouldn't Allan love that!),
an appreciater of Helen more, (and just a general more roundered American if
I had this
off my chest. Till next time, sipping Dr. Peppers laying heavy on my chest,
your friend, Laura Lee Hobbs
