Bobby Fleet #2 showed up last night on Adam 12. A little matter of him and
his buddies stealing 47 mink coats. May he and the boys and get up a
little band in the jail.

I love seeing the epilogues again...many for the first time. Does anyone
know what the length of the regular episodes with the epilogues is? How
much of the show is being edited out each night?

There are actually two characters that I would've liked to have seen more
of. One is the farmer whose wife was having the baby and the other was the
man who called Mayberry his home town.

TAGS fans,
My son checked out a book about giraffes at the library. I couldn't
believe that it said they were very friendly animals that were well-known
for taking care of each other. Where do they get this kind of
information?!

Actually, it was real hard to read this book to my son and not go into
the "Boy giraffes are selfish" speech.

I just want to go on record as saying Miss Laura Lee Hobbs posts some good
'uns! I'm going to have to think about this latest one....which episode
would I like to be in and which character? Gonna have to put on my bucket
and take a think. :-)

There was an article in our paper today about an Indiana town that has
proclaimed itself the "Mayberry of the Midwest". Apparently, not everyone in
town is as fond of the TAGS townfolk as we are! If anyone would like to read
it, the address is

I tried to teach my brother's Indian Ringneck Parakeet to whistle the
theme song when I babysat him one time and he seemed real interested but
he's never done it in front of me, only partially for my brother. Shazam!

Meanwhile, I got one of my previous questions answered today. Mrs.
Ambrose was on the episode yesterday and credits listed both Janet
Stewart and Helen Kleeb. Then the Waltons were on and listed Helen Kleeb
as Mamie Baldwin. Maybe Janet Stewart portrayed Jess Morgan's wife in
that episode in a scene we don't always get to see. Are you listening

Hey to all you beautiful people in Mayberry land:
Laura Lee Hobbs here facing a horrible prospect. Ya'll know that episode
where Aunt Bee tries to teach table manners to Mr. Darling and
nearly beats him to death with a spoon in the process? Well, I face
a similar situation. Let me explain.
Our oldest and only son, Nick, is getting married, March 18, to a perfectly
lovely girl, Terri. So far so good. The fly in the ointment
is the Hobbs are invited to a "get acquainted tea" this Sunday to
meet Terri's family (Old Money). Now, Mr. Hobbs teaches school, Laura
Lee watches out for gold trucks and between them we have educated one
child, almost finished educating another, and will began educating our
third--and final--in the next two years, so we don't have old money,
new money, or middle age money. But that's not the problem. The problem is
table manners.
Old Money sets one mean table (so I have been warned). And Mrs. Old Money
actually keeps a long fork nearby to stab Terri whenever she uses
the wrong fork or makes any kind of a mistake. By now, Terri has perfect
manners, so the long fork, for her, is just a reminder. The thing is this
lady uses it on OTHER PEOPLE! Mrs. Old Money used the long fork and
actually STABBED Nick with it once! We only recently learned this.
And the child still wants to marry into this family? Yeah, he does!
What worries me is are we going to be left with enough blood flowing
through our veins to sustain life after this tea? 'Cause our table manners
just ain't that good. B-R-E-A-D M-E-A-T
Any advice?
Perplexed and confused in Ozark, Mother of the groom (maybe) Laura Lee

An incredible story here in the Bloomington, Indiana paper. Seems a near
by town in billing itself as the "Mayberry of the Midwest". And some folks
in town are upset about it. Seems that they feel this is a put-down. They
don't want people thinking of them as hicks. Well not all of us here in
Indiana are so narrow minded. I would love to live in a town like
Mayberry. The article went on to refer to Mayberry's inept deputy and
Floyd the "flighty" barber. Never have I been so embarrassed in my life.
I am tempted to write to that town and explain rule number two to them
Allan.

Why do some people refer to Barney as inept. He is definitely ept. Why do
some people not understand the difference between being inept and being
wiry and high strung?

Sorry you had to see this but I just can't keep things in when I'm riled.

Will you answer me this? How can a fox open a refrigerator door, and how
did the Count get Helen moved from third grade to fourth and then to fifth?
She was teaching fifth grade when the Count appeared on the scene.

I got to tell ya, there's things goin' on that...wooo!

A few days back, Aunt Bee said:

Thanks for bringing up that Pink Floyd billboard! One of our local
Orlando radio stations used that too a few years back and we really got a
kick out of it. We even drove out one night just to snap a few photos of
it! Ah, the references to our beloved Mayberry and its residents are
  many and wondrous! Aunt Bee

I seem to recall hearing of a place where you could buy "Pink Floyd" t-shirts
a while back. Does anyone know where those might be for sale?

<<Does anyone else have a favorite "one-shot" character they would like to
have seen more of on TAGS?>>

Rafe, my favorite "one-shot" character would have to be the Post Master in
"The Guitar Player"--that great character actor Dub Taylor! He and Barney
argue over who has the best wanted posters on their respective bulletin
boards... Fans of "No Time for Sergeants" also remember him as Mr. McKinney
the Draft Man who drags Will Stockdale (Andy Griffith) down out of the
hills: "Bye, boys. Don't take any wooden nickels." -- "If you can't be
good, be CAREful."

Subject: NEWS FROM TAGSRWC HQ: Mayberry Squad Car Rendezvous

Date: 2/3/00 8:31:33 PM Central Standard Time
From: TAGSRWC Headquarters

The date for the Mayberry Squad Car Rendezvous has shifted to Sat. and Sun., J
uly 1 and 2. It has been officially declared "definite" for these dates (it
had been "tentative" for July 7 and 8).

Some other changes for this year's Rendezvous: It's moving to a different
location near Bob Scheib's re-creation of Wally's in Bradford, Ohio. (This
year it'll be on a 180-acre farm to the east of the Scheib farm, closer to
Covington, Ohio.)

There will be somewhat more of a veterans/military slant to this year's
Rendezvous, so "Mayberry Squad Car" likely will be dropped from the title and
replaced with something broader. (Or maybe the event's title will end up
having the same fate as Barney's "Concert to Tonight" sign in "Sermon for
Today.")

Two or three actors with Mayberry connections are expected to attend (no
definite commitments to announce yet) and non-Mayberry actors also are being
contacted. Mayberry Squad Car replicas are still very much encouraged at the
event and will have an even bigger area for being displayed (there won't be a
Wally's to park in front of, but there will be a Duck Pond). Following what
Barney would have liked, various military vehicles will also be on display.

It won't be exactly the same Rendezvous as in past years, but the Mayberry
connection will be just as big as ever -- it'll just be part of a larger
event instead of being solely Mayberry).

Complete details will be in the March Bullet, and we'll post the major info
at the tagsrwc.com web site, too. But for now, I mainly just wanted to let
folks know about the new, confirmed dates of July 1 and 2. (And don't forget
Mayberry at MeadowView III in Kingsport, TN the weekend before...on June 24.)
