Joe, that's Norman Leavitt, who is best known as Wally in "Barney Gets His Man"
and "Man in a Hurry". He played a couple of other characters at different times
as well.

Hey, I know it wasn't successful, but in Barney's First Car, wouldn't you
call that auto theft when the guy picked up the car on the side of the road
with the tow truck... Kind o makes you thank, don't it?!?!?

Was watching the Fandemonium Marathon tonight on TV Land... Ward Cleaver
sang "Juanita"... I must say though, you could tell he didn't have the
trained voice that Barney had... Barney sure put him to shame... He even
tried it twice...
Have a good day !

NO DUI's... What about RUI's........

I don't guess you can count this as "DRIVING". But, Otis was riding a cow
while drunk.. Can you have a RUI-- Riding Under the Influence.. Just a
thought.

And Laura Lee... If all else fails just get up from the table and throw you
napkin down and say, " I ain't about the stabbed to death with no fork"....

I was a-lookin' in my stored mail and discovered that I was missing
digests #36 & #37. Could one of you fine citizens out there forward them
to me? Wait that's not such a good idea; I'm liable to end up with a
crammed-jammed e-mail box! I'll bet Paul saves his...how about it Paul?
I dont know why I didn't get'em. It'll remain a mystery like the powers
of Count Iz! Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks in advance.

car doing in Ohio this year, Moving it/incorporating it in with some
military MOULAGE, I don't blame Bob for moving it, I don't know if I could
handle 3000 people in my yard either, but why the military part?, were
getting away from the Mayberry theme Does this mean no Wallys Service
station? And other Stars with no mayberry conections? I'll be honest and
say I don't like it #1. Changing the Name 2. the military part C. No More

I enjoyed the listing of crimes committed in Mayberry. I thought I'd
mention these few tidbits to ponder. Whether you'd count it
"successful" or not, looks to me like Ernest T. "bridenapped" Barney
in the "Mountain Wedding" episode, and definitely planned (conspired)
to kidnap the bride as per his implication on the message on the rock
he heaved through the Darlings' window. Of course, he conspired to
desert from the armed forces, but since he was turned down, that was
a moot point. They got to take you before you can desert. It also
looks to me like the Darlings kidnapped Aunt Bee.... of course, it
resulted in Briscoe being assaulted with a spoon. There were a
couple (at least) of cases of domestic violence (Got chickens to
throw, got chickens to sell, and the "leg-o-lamb" incident with
Otis). Although it happened looong before Andy became sheriff,
apparently there was also one humdinger of an arson case there once.
Of course, there was no listing of the most hideous crime, one so
bad that it is not given in most state and national crime
reports, and that I am hesitant to even write .... "Chronic
Jaywalking". Mayberry had more than its share of that one.

Subject: We need your prayers

Hey Gang,

I thought I would drop a note to the digest concerning a very special friend
in our Mayberry community that needs your prayers.

Larry McPeak, of the VW Boys, has contracted a disease that has all but
totally destroyed his liver. He is despartely trying to raise money to be put
on a transplant list. He needs $35,000 for the transplant. I think this is
the same condition that Jim Nabors had, and BEAT, a few years back.

Please keep Larry in your thoughts and prayers. Through God ALL things are
possible. If you would like to send Larry a card or note, I know he would
cherish it. He is a very, very special person. You can send them to:

Larry McPeak
1180 Sunset Street
Wytheville, VA 24382

Thanks for listenin'

OK, that's right...maybe you can "un-steal" a car...but what about
assault...even if the culprit is apprehended...the assault took place
right? I don't mean all those unreported assaults in "The Case of the
Punch in the Nose" (#152), but how 'bout the reported wife-beating in
"Barney's Replacement" (#33)

Don't get me wrong...I'd take "Mayberry...gateway to danger!" over any real
city I know of any day!

Subject: Frances Bavier story

A recent posting on the Miss Crump on-line board questioned Frances Bavier's
popularity on the set. While I thought the question was out-of-perspective
(not the questioner's fault; the fault of his information), it did remind me
of a funny story about Frances that I forgot years ago:

In the late 1970s, while attending James Madison University, I met and spoke
with Richard Crenna at a fine arts symposium. At the time, he was starring
in a sitcom with Bernadette Peters and Jack Dodson ("All's Fair"). I asked
him if he and Jack ever talked about their TAGS experiences (Crenna directed
several 4th season episodes including "Opie the Birdman" and "The Sermon for
Today"). He related a story that Jack told him. Mr. Dodson didn't have a
foul mouth, but he wasn't above peppering his language at times. While
filming an episode of "RFD" ("The Race Horse"), during a filming break with
the cast sitting in bleachers, Jack let a few choice words slip out. The
next thing he knew, Frances' umbrella came down onto his head. BUT, Crenna
said that Jack couldn't tell the story without laughing, and he said that
Jack had a great affection for her! Crenna himself said that she was a
ladylike pleasure to direct.

Just thought you'd enjoy sharing the story...
