What R.G.J. says about North Carolina TV is true. I'm from North
Carolina (I live in the Chicago suburbs now). Anyway, when I lived in
North Carolina, there were three shows ALWAYS on, anytime day or night,
they were...TAGS (of course), Matlock, and In the Heat of the Night. If
these are one's three favorite shows, North Carolina is the place to be.

money was being raised to help get Don Knotts star on the Walk Of Fame, we

autograph picture of Barney, just wondering what might be going on with that.
Like I say I may have to look back in my old Bullets to find who was even
handling this at the time. Shoot I would have gladly given some money to
have Mr. Knotts get his star picture or not but seeing we were told we would
get picture I sure like to know what might just ah be goin on with that.

That is true but I'm not the one that made that promise. That was an offer
made by Greg Akers and David Brown about a year or so ago. I'm sure they are
still going to honor that but I'm thinking that it will take some time to get
that mailed out, with all of the people that donated.

<<Just wanted to drop a line and tell you all how much fun I've been having
downloading Mayberry sound bites from Emmett's WAVs, at Them Timers are
Tricky Chapter's web site.>>

Thanks, Dave, but let's not forget the one person that is a BIG, BIG help
to me in making these wavs.........Martha.....she helps me find em when
someone requests a wav. I don't have too much trouble remembering where
the wav is, but sometimes, I have to call on Martha's help to find em, and
let me tell you, she goes to great lengths to do it too. We do enjoy making
the wavs for everyone, though. It's truely a labor of love. Be sure and
check back to our site often, though, because more wavs are going to be added
real soon.

Thanks again, Dave, and I'm just happy that everyone enjoys our wavs.

Even though I am just a civilian who cannot think fast on his feet in a
crisis like the trained, professional, lawman Fife, I would like to make my
first-ever message (on the wbmutbb) a reply to the question "What is your
favorite TAGS phrase?" There are so many classic lines to consider, but my
favorite one to quote and to requote comes from the episode, "Sermon For
Today". Barney is trying to compliment the visiting preacher from New York
on his sermon (which was mostly about slowing down the pace of life) by
saying:"Yep, that's one thing you just can't talk enough about...Sin." So
whenever someone at my church asks me what the sermon (that they had missed)
was, I give them the reliable Barney Fife reply..."Sin". I would tell you
other quotes, but I am just too pooped from battling all of them spiders up
under the bandstand. Lots of luck to you and yours. BG77

Hi y'all!

Joe, re: the Barney duck walk - I just saw him do that on the "Barney's =
First Car" episode, but I can't remember the times other than what you =
mentioned.

Laura Lee: I don't know whether audience feedback was that important (or =
that prevalent) during the days of the show, but since you mentioned why =
they might have taken Joanna Moore's character off the show, I agree with =
you. I did read somewhere that maybe she was just a little too sexy for =
Mayberry or for Andy's character. I though she was pretty and funny, and =
that her Southern accent was perfect, but they didn't ask me anyway! Back =
to your original question: I'll bet the producers of the show didn't =
really get many complaints back then, because TV comedy mostly stayed out =
of contoversy back then. Besides, it was such a good quality show and the =
writers & Andy himself had great instincts about what would work and what =
wouldn't. Except for their decision to take Peggy out of the show, I =
wouldn't have had any reason to write except to say how great the show =
was. Come to think of it, Laura Lee, that sounds like a good question for =
the writers at the TAGSRWC website!

Also, thanks to those who wrote me with suggestions about the Bible study =
using the "Cousin Virgil" episode. It went very well and you all helped!

I'll hang up now so somebody else can talk on the party line!

You remember when Gomer had the date with Mary Grace and he went to buy
some new duds - the purple tie with acorns and some other stuff. Wonder if
he got them over at Weaver's or if he picked them up from Laura Lee Hobbs
at the dime store.

By the way, those of us who grew up in my part of the South never called
them dime stores, we always called them ten-cent stores. My favorite
ten-cent store in town was S.H. Kress (locally referred to as Kress's) due
to the big candy counter right at the front door (a 25c sack of M&Ms would
last all the way up Main Street) plus they had the little, cheap toys you
could usually talk Dad into buying for you. They usually tore up real
quick, but you didn't care...you got them on Main Street and Dad bought it
for you.

I wonder why Ernest T Bass had to go to school to learn to read and
write? In Mountain Wedding , he threw a rock threw the Darling's window
with a lengthy note, he had written.

Subject: Barney's gun

I could use some help from fellow list-members, since I'm not lucky
enough to have all the episodes on tape. What are all the names
that Barney calls his gun? As some of you may recall, we have
named all our Siberian Huskies after show characters. We have a
son of Barney now, and his registered name will be "Savitar's Blue
Steel Baby", but we need something to call him. I can recall:
rosco, heater, and rod. I know Barney went through an entire list in
at least one episode, but it may have been more. Any suggestions
will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Deon

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth on a few things in this last digest.

First, on Jim Parks and the tiny little school bus: They still make
little buses like that. I work for Orange County Public Schools and
these types of buses are used for special routes; usually the route is
so small it doesn't merit a large bus. Our extended day program has used
them to take field trips with a limited attendance. I asked a bus driver
today if they ever sold old school buses. The answer was yes, at public
auction. So you could probably get yourself a cute little bus, there
Jim!

Next, Charlie's post about the lady who said that in North Carolna you
could turn on the tv and always find a channel with TAGS playing. Well I
don't know about always but when we were there 2 summers ago it seemed
pretty close! After we checked into the Mayberry Motor Inn, we went in
our room and turned on the tv. There was TAGS, the episode about the
gypsies! My hubby Elvisfife took a photo of me next to the screen,
grinnin' like a pig in mud! I woke up later that night and turned on the
tv, flipped the channel a few times and BAM!!! there was Andy! We got up
in the morning and watched Andy while we ate our complimentary
continental breakfast. Andy was there waiting on us when we got back
from sightseeing and he put us to bed! Just like Elvis, Andy is
EVERYWHERE!!!

Bert Mustin sighting on Dragnet...I have also seen Bert on Dragnet
playig a retired police detective. Plus he played checkers at the fire
station on "Leave it to Beaver" as a friendly fireman in Mayfield. He
also was the lovable regular at Kelsey's bar on "All in the Family".
What a wonderful career Bert has had!

Tara in Orlando: I remember that Fox 35 commercial. In the middle of the
Miami Vice theme music you heard the synthesized strains of the TAGS
theme! What a scream!

Well, I've flapped my jaws enough. Better save my voice for the lounge
tonight! Better go so I can do my vocal exercises: E-may, E-may,
E-may!!! :-)

Poor little Opie; havin' to eat grits and prunes over at the neighbor
ladie's house while Andy went to rescue Aunt Bee. Even sadder about
those young'ens in Norway....Hardtack and
dried fish? Yuck!!!

He also does that walk in Barney's First Car, when he nabbs Hub Caps
Liesh, and the show where he nabbs the crooks by driving away with them
in their own travel trailer. Andy's line is classic, "Barney! I believe
we've caught ourselves a chicken thief." Also a little bit in Mountian
Wedding when Ernest T is throwing rocks into the cabin at night.

You don't want moth eggs in your hair either! You can go crazy from that
too!
