was Sally from "Convicts at Large." She looked a little lonely without Al

Just watched the County Nurse Episode the other day, I noticed something
that I had never caught on before. (course I'm probably just slow compared
to some of you trained noticers)
Early in the show when Andy is suddenly smitten with Nurse Mary, Andy starts
babbling on almost Barney-like, and Barney is cool calm an collected. He
sings in the background as Andy mutters his nonsense. In this case Barney
was playing the straight role, and Andy the comedy!.. Why, Barney even sings
in-tune!. Later on, of course, Barney is back to his wild ways as he tries
to coerce Rafe Hollister to get a shot, and when Nurse Mary figures out he
(Barney) is due a shot also...but for a while there, he was the wise one. I
know there are other cases when Barney was right, but do you know of any
more cases where Andy was a little nutsy, and Barney played it straight?
Guess from the no-response, noone knows who any of the choir members were in
the Barney and the Choir Episode.???
A few Digest's ago, someone commented on Opie's real Paw. Did everyone see
Opie's real Maw
(Mrs. Howard) in Apollo 13. She played Jim Lovell's (Tom Hanks) mother
with that memorable line about...If they could put a washing machine in
space, my Jimmy could land it.
All the best to you and yours

OK you guys! I have 3 questions, points, to bring up. When Rafe
Hollister is standing at the desk and Andy's trying to 'figure' out who
he arrested for moonshing (so's he can issue the new suit of clothes),
does Rafe say what I think he says, on 1960s TV ?!? Something like, "___
that's me"
SO gang, it sure sounds like Rafe's a good ol' boy to me !!
2nd - Anybody ever notice in the Butter & Egg episode that Andy's
reading the Mt Airy paper ?!?
And 3rd - What in the Sam Hill does "you just go up an alley an' holler
fish" mean for crying out loud? ... that's a real Gomerism !!
"that's always a good household item........................"
God bless ya'll !!

Among the all-time classic lines:
Andy on Ernest T. - "There goes a happy man."
Barney on Ernest T. - "There goes a happy nut."
I think Ernest T. Bass was one of the greatest comic characters
ever created for television. And you have to admire the Andy show (I can't
for the life of me refer to it as TAGS) for using ETB in such small doses.
A powerful character like that is like tobasco: best used in small doses.
Because remember, he's not stupid, ETB is ignorant.

While I was taking a break from my lounge singing today, I heard an
interesting commercial on the radio. It was for AmSouth, a large
financial institution here in Flordia. They were saying that being
different is a good thing...."What if every one in Mayberry was as
sensible and level-headed as Andy? Well, it would be pretty
boring...Mayberry needed Barney to sing off-key in the choir and for
Goober to assemble a car in the courthouse to keep things interesting!"
Pretty cool, don'tcha think?

Thanks for all the responses via email & the Digest to my question about
HC.Everyone was in agreement that "He'd kill ya!" was both Helen's best
line and one that ranks fairly high in the "Best of Show" category.I
don't believe I can think of another major character that might generate
such a unanimous vote.

Since recently getting TV Land on our local cable system we have really
been enjoying many of the classic sitcoms from the past: of course TAGS
is still #1. but we've also gotten hooked on " My Three Sons " which
also has an occasional TAGS face on it, recently Betty Lynn turned up as
Janice, Steve Douglas' secretary, wonder if this was where Thelma Lou
went to after she split with her hubby, maybe a slight name change, oh
well, we all know she ended up as Mrs. Bernard P. Fife.........Lotsa
Luck to You & Yours.......Dave & Pattie.

Need some help, tagsters. In the episode, "The Mayberry Band," Mayor Stoner
looks at his watch and says he has to be somewhere at 3:00. I can't make out
where he has to be. It sounds like "Mt. Kannit." (It doesn't sound like
"Mt. Pilot," so don't fall back on that one for an answer.) Does anyone have
an answer beyond "supposin'" what it might be? No one could give me a real
answer over at the Mayberry website.

Yes, they cut the epilogues from both episodes last night. I had
never seen the Ernest T. epilogue before - Albert had told me what
it was about - needless to say I was disappointed.

Ms. Poovey, I do believe you are correct! I seem to recall reading
somewhere that it was a take-off on My Fair Lady: hence the name! I also
recall reading that this episode was being filmed when the news of JFK's
assassination was received. Does anyone else remember anything about this?

Subject: Gomer mention on local news
I was watching the late night news on a Porland, Or. station, & the two
anchors were discusing the short lived marraige of the millionaire which
took place on tv. They were talking about the annulment of the couple,
when one of them said to the other "As Gomer would say, Surprise,
surprise, surprise!." With so much bad news that one hears on the news
, it really made me laugh, as I could just hear Gomer saying it
