I just happened to flip by a showing of that classic Cary Grant/Ginger
Rogers flick, Monkey Business, and who do I spy as Cary's buddy? None
other than Mr. Maxwell (without his tape recorder). Best I remember, his
real name is Hugh Marlow. Several scenes later, Cary and Ginger are
checking into the hotel and who is behind the counter but John Masters
(Olan Soule).

And on another subject, wouldn't you just love to hear the story about Myra
Koontz?

I'm back after a short stint at being exiled from cyber Mayberry.
Sometimes these electronal marvels aren''t what they're all cracked up to
be. Anyway, being a bona fide North Carolina hick (but not a hick
troublemaker), I went to the NASCAR race in Rockingham. One of the many
interesting things I saw was a tent advertising a Dukes of Hazard computer
game. On duty were the actual actors who played three of the characters,
including Sherrif Roscoe (actor James Best, aka our own Jim Lindsay). I
didn't get to talk to him, that was reserved for those plunking down $40
for the game. The other actors in character were those who played Cooter
and Enis. There was also a pretend Daisy Duke - and boy, whe was indeed a
fine actress!!!! (peek-a-boo) *g*

"Yeah, I'd say they used a pretty fast lens."

Anyway glad to be back.

As I said in an earlier message, TAGS will always be my favorite sitcom,
but My Three Sons is fast becoming my 2nd favorite. This morning I saw
Betty Lynn again as Janice, Fred McMurrays secretary and also Sally(one
of the lady convicts)appeared on MTS as a good humor lady in the
hospital, the Mayberry/My Three Sons connection is quite strong in TV
Land..............Dave.

RE: Has anyone noticed Andy reading the Mt. Airy newspaper in the
butter and egg man episode?
I did, Michael, and I wrote about it, but I got the episode wrong.
I thought the Mt. Airy newspaper appeared in the episode when Aunt Bee
goes away a few days, leaving Andy and Opie alone to manage the house.
I am so glad to learn I'm not the only one to have noticed this paper.
It's touches like this that make you know how much Andy appreciated his real
home. And, personally, I wonder who in his background was
the real Laura Lee Hobbs!
Lydia first speaks, to Andy about her name, "It means native of ancient
Greece. But
that's not where I'm from. I'm from Greensboro."
And this Laura Lee Hobbs is from Taylorsville, MS., and I'm not too sure
what that means, but I bet it's something nice. Ace gold truck
watcher and dime store clerk, Laura Lee Hobbs

I'm sure you "pros" have noticed this before. But I wanted to ask, do
y'all notice how whenever Andy's outside his pants leg is stuck in his
boot. When he comes inside the pants are back to normal.

In this episode, how come Gomer can sing "Santa Lucia" perfectly outside
while tending to a car, but needs to read the sheet music when he sings
it inside? Maybe he was singing acapella. How does that go again?
Acapella! Acapella! - catchy.

I usually don't chew my cabbage twice, but I will repeat my question. I
noticed in the credits of "Mr. McBeevee" Harvey Bullock's writing partner is
listed as R. Allan Saffian but in Neal Brower's book Mayberry 101 he is
always referred to as Ray Saffian Allan. Which is correct? or is one a pen
name? Excuse my twice chewing. Maria PS Brian says hey.

As David mentioned, Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou) played Steve Douglas'
secretary on "My Three Sons". Well, she was also Uncle Bill's secretary
on "Family Affair".

As I drive to work around 5:30 am every work day, I've been listening to

a local radio station which has both a man and woman dual-hosting the
morning
show. Each day they play a sound bite from "Gomer Pyle, USMC",
ostensibly to get people wp and moving along the way to work, this is
where Gomer
says "Come on you knuckleheads, move it, move it, move it!". I
think
it's kinda neat.

I just stayed up until 1 am to watch the Gomer Pyle episode when Gomer
visits Mayberry. I had never seen it before, and I greatly looked
forward to it. MAN, was I disappointed. It was just terrible. They were
ALL out of town camping. Now when did Aunt Bee start camping anyway.
Even Goober was camping with the Taylors, now does that make sense.
Don't y'all think that Gomer should have called first. I think a much
better episode would be if everyone was home of course, and Gomer
brought Sgt. Carter with him. Now that would be a scream!! I would love
to see Sgt. Carter outraged by the Mayberry laid-back attitude, ala "Man
in a Hurry".

In the digest V2 72. Doug and Maria Largent asked whether my late partner
was Ray Allen Saffian or Ray Saffian Allen. In fact, his real name was
Morris Saffian.. He changed that to Ray Allen (because his then partner was
Stan Burns...and thus the two could call themselves "Burns and Allen!"when
they tried to get work. Crazy!)

When he came to California, there was another writer on the books Named "Ray
Allen" which made things confusing. So he changed to "Ray Allen Saffian"
Then to shorten it a bit he amended to R.S.Allen. But you'll see all the
names appearing in credits during the time he worked,

I have to take this opportunity to say he was the closest friend I ever had,
a joy to partner with.
