It's hilarious! It features Jimmy the dynamite-eatin' Loaded Goat. If you haven't seen it check it out. I must admit tht TVLand makes some excellant promos. That's it from here. Have a great week in Mayberry! It's very brief: Back at the courthouse, Barney does his impression of O'l Blue Eyes and tries to get Andy to guess who he's impersonating. Barney gets mad when Andy, instead of trying to guess the PERSON being imitated, says, "I don't know the song." > [In "The Shoplifters"] Thelma Lou says something to [Barney, on the phone] and he responds (angrily), "No, it's got > nothing to do with trash cans!" Maybe there was something cut from > earlier in that episode that would give his comment meaning. Can anyone help? Nothing was cut, Thelma Lou was just teasing him a little. Andy did once say that their police work consisted mainly of giving parking tickets, helping children across the street, and putting lids back on trash cans. > And while you're sitting there thinking with that bucket on your head, tell me what the epilogue was to the episode in >which Opie finds Parnell Rigsby's wallet with $50 in it. I can't sleep at night wondering! As a reward for Opie's honesty, Andy buys him the fishing rod after all. Opie is eager to try it out right away, so Andy lets him go, reminding him not to get more than his limit. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2000 19:03:09 -0600 From: "Paul Mulik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Gilly Walker, epilogues >I am wanting to find out the name of the individual in the episode that brings the car in to be worked on, and Goober works >on it in the courthouse [episode #144, Goober Takes a Car Apart] >Thank you, >Scott Boyd, Chapter President, "Hooked Like A Starving Catfish", Huntsville, Texas The actor was Larry Hovis, best known for his role on Hogan's Heroes (I never watched that show much, but I believe the character he played was named Carter). First, let me say, we get TAGS every evening at 6:00CT here in Dallas on TVLAND (the Nick-at-Nite spinoff). All this weekend, they played Gomer Pyle back to back, day and night. Check out http://www.nick-at-nite.com/ Their summary of AG's career shows he had GBS (Guillain Barre Syndrome), a serious nerve disorder, from 1983-86. I wonder: did it completely heal?? Has he ever talked or written about it? I have ideopathic peripheral neuropathy that has caused me to take disability retirement last year at age 62. In the last few months, the national Neuropathy Association has asked me to start up a support group here in the DFW area. I wonder if Andy would be approachable about letting his name and experience with GBS (which is a form of Neuropathy) be used in fund-raising for research into the cause and cure of Neuropathy? I'd very much like to hear from someone who could help me in this worthy cause! (AIT)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Mr. Opie Taylor Sr. USMC Unbelievable--I had a busy weekend and only got to watch a few minutes of the Gomer marathon on TVLAND. But one of the two episodes I saw portions of, was the one everyone's been talking about. (When Gomer came back to visit Mayberry) I thought it was the real characters (Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee, Goober) but I wasn't watching that close. The point I wanted to add was...The crooks that Gomer was driving around with sure looked like the Miracle Salve Guys!...and there they were, duped by Mr. Opie Taylor Senior again. I know at least one guy was. Anybody confirm? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Mar 2000 05:13:06 PST From: "Marquetta Pisarcik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: character name I believe that it was Gilly Walker (or perhaps Gillie...I'm not sure on the spelling)who had Goober work on his car. Since Goober had to cover the courthouse for Andy while he was on a business trip, he decided to work on the car in the courthouse and do both jobs at once. I'm not sure of the actor's name, but the Gilly Walker character was hard on his car and all he did was "speed, speed, speed"; a constant complaint from Goober. Here are a few that I noticed. The fellow who had Goober repair his car in the courthouse (and who later appeared on Hogan's Heroes) was seen several times (by the way, I believe his name is Larry Hovey, for the person asking). The ubiquitous actor formerly known as Sam The Butcher (and various roles in TAGS) played the cook in GPUSMC. Also, it was nice to see that Hubcaps Lesch (sp?) had moved up in the world (from grand theft auto and fraud to grand larceny and racketeering). That's all for now, "hey to you and yours." Look like for some reason this week they are only showing the 6:00 P.M. (central time) show.... They usually repeated the show again at 9:00 and then another episode at 12:00, but this week they are only showing the 6:00 show... I understand that they have a new series called "Inside TV Land"... Shows a behind the scenes look at some of the shows they broadcast... My understanding is that they are doing TAGS tomorrow, Tuesday the 14'th at 9:00 P.M. central time... They advertise never before scenes... Should be good... Have a good week ! "It meant 'hush up' and came from the vendors who sold food in the alleys of her Philadelphia childhood." (per Mayberry 101 by Neal Brower page 249) >I'm sure you "pros" have noticed this before. But I wanted to ask, do y'all notice how whenever Andy's outside his pants leg is stuck in his boot. When he comes inside the pants are back to normal.< It has been noted, Mary Foti, that Andy's pants got stuck in his boots alot, but they left it because they thought it was a natural look. Can't remember where I read...perhaps FAQs at the WBMUTBB site (can't check there now, old page up, many links missing) I don't know if anyone has made your inside vs outside observation. >I am wanting to find out the name of the individual in the episode that brings the car in to be worked on, and Goober works on it in the courthouse. Thank you, Scott Boyd, Chapter President< Scott, I believe Gilly Walker was played by Larry Hovis...( I believe he later played in Hogan's Heroes) >From: Karen Bice <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>Subject: a burning question Hi gang. I gotta have the answer to this one. It's "preying" on my mind. In the episode "The Shoplifters," Barney calls Thelma Lou to tell her he can't make it "tonight" 'cause he's got police business. (He's planning to stake out Weaver's to nab whoever's coming in there at night.) Thelma Lou says something to him and he responds (angrily), "No, it's got nothing to do with trash cans!" Maybe there was something cut from earlier in that episode that would give his comment meaning. Can anyone help?< "Thelma Lou had assumed that a crime involving trash cans, perhaps a vandal turning them over, could be the 'something big that has come up' Barney's reposnse requires the audience to figure out what Thelma Lou has said over the telephone. Her assumption reflects the status of crime in Mayberry. Vandalism of trash cans rather than shoplifting is the norm. Her statement also shows her awareness of Banreys tendency to make a minor crime sound important....Our goal was to have the humor arise from the personalities of the characters and the situations they were involved in" (Sam Bobrick, writer, as quoted in Mayberry 101 by Brower page 302) Now can I get my diploma Miss Crump? Carter and Gomer Does anybody in the WBMUTBB chapter know how to read lips? I've always wondered exactly what Sgt. Carter yells at Gomer during the opening credits of Gomer Pyle - USMC. I'm sure it's something along the lines of, "Pyle, you knucklehead! You lamebrain! You nitwit!" etc., but I'm hoping someone can give an accurate transcription. - --Paul ------------------------------ End of wbmutbb-digest V2 #80 **************************** ************************************************** ~ Visit our sponsor ~ Weaver's Department Store ~ http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/weavers/ ************************************************** You must send your comments to the Digest from the address you used to join WBMUTBB or your message will not be posted.
