|The inside show tuesday night was great. There was a good point made by Billy
Bob: the color TAGS just was NOT the SAME! I know why, at least for me. <This
is one of the reasons I still prefer the old, black and white movies and shows.
> In black and white shows, details do not show up the same. I mean, seams
at corners, paper on the walls, etc. do not show-up as clearly. IN OTHER WORDS,
PROPS LOOKED R E A L. When color came along, those SAME props had more
dimension, depth, and detail. You could see the awful job done in haste to
get a set stuck together. ALSO, REMEMBER THAT WHEN COLOR FIRST CAME TO
TV, it was so
"new" that shows exaggerated the colors on the sets. I mean, people went
crazy with color. Remeber My Three Sons? It turned out that the WHOLE KITCHEN
was blue! Yuck! As far as these two TAGS fans are concerned...there are only
the Black and White shows!!!!!! "hey", from Branson, Mo.

I was saddened to hear how some of the actors spoke of Aunt Bee in the TV
Land special.
I had heard often that her and Andy didn't get along to well but I didn't
realize it was that bad. But it is a testimony to her skills as an actress.
You would think they were one happy family on and off the set. It is really
amazing to watch the bed jacket episode and see how loving they are to each
other in that and then to think what could be going on behind the scenes. It
just makes you realize how great of talents everyone was on the show. I also
missed not hearing anything about Warren. We don't talk much about Warren
here at the digest. No one can ever take the place of Ole Barn but Warren's
character made for a few good shows.

|The idea of a Mayberry game is great. There is NO question about that. Money
Is involved.
Here is a good solution: ON EACH QUESTION CARD, in small print, SHOW
WHO THAT QUESTION WAS SUBMITTED BY! Simple as that. Pick up a card. Question:
How many "different" porches did Andy have? Answer: ______ (I think, at least
2, cause they went up to the porch steps in front in some TAGS, and on the RIGHT
side on others). <<<<in small print:"submitted by: sheila henderson, Branson,

Subject: Money or a Good Game?
There have been so many complaints about the first Trivia Game not being
hard enough or accurate enough and now is our chance to contribute to making
a great game. We're not in TAGS stuff to make money anyway are we? We're
here because we love TAGS and Mayberry. And if they give credit to a group
(WBMUTBB), it gives a lot more credence to the veracity of the information
than if it's just individuals. I can get any 10-12 people to make up
questions to anything as long as they an IQ greater than a rock (sorry,
Ernest T)- - but who are they if you don't personally know them? That's
meaningless on a box. But if you say the questions were contributed by an
organized group associated with the material, it just gives more strength to
the TAGS effort. For example, if you played a trivia game about Space
Exploration in the 21st Century, which would be more impressive: "Questions
contributed by Bubba Jones" or "Questions contributed by NASA"? It would be
an honor to "WBMUTBB" on the box. But my name? Nobody knows me from Adam's
housecat. (Sorry if there's really a "Bubba Jones" - - I just made that
up.)

Have you always wanted to meet and get an autograph of some of the Mayberry
celebrities but haven't been able to attend any of the events? Here's your
chance to obtain an autographed of some of your favorites. I have
autographed 8x10 photos available of Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou), Bernard Fox
(Malcolm Merriweather), Elinor Donahue (Ellie Walker), Jean Carson (Fun
Girl), or Maggie Peterson (Charlene Darling). In 1995, I hosted a 2-day
Mayberry Reunion in Grand Rapids, Michigan where these wonderful celebrities
made a guest appearance. As I've been spring cleaning, I relocated a number
of extra photos that the stars autographed. I'd like to give the Mayberry
fans first crack at obtaining an in-person autograph before I put these up
for auction. If you're interested, please send an e-mail directly to me
before March 31 and I'll let you know what I have available and the (below
auction) price. I do have a limited number available so first come, first
served.

Yep, I caught the similarity in the Gomer where Sgt. Carter loses his voice
and Gomer sings for him and Barney and the Choir (which happened to air the
same night). So I checked the credits. Our dear Harvey Bullock wrote the
Gomer episode, so I thought he might have just dusted off one of his old
TAGS scripts, but I checked and no, Harvey did not write Barney and the
Choir.
Maybe Aaron Reuben gave the order to do a show along that line based on his
TAGS work.

Mary,
I know what you mean. However, I find it easier to deal with that kind of
controversy by thinking of the folks talking not about Aunt Bee, but about the
actress who played her. Separating the actor from the role is best in most all
cases, because most actors are just plain folks like the rest of us, and if we
look too deep into their background, we'll find some things that we'd just
plain rather not know about. But the wonderful characters they portrayed can
still remain unblemished in our minds and in our hearts.

My hat's still off to WMFY in Greensboro, NC for their showing of TAGS
(still at 5:30, M-F, just in time for supper.) They show Barn with all the
dialog (here comes the cat!) AND the epilogue, which is the norm for all
their showings. Not to make a big moulage out of something that only the
piedmont of NC can see, just a tip of the hat.

You know Andy, our only fault is that we're attractive to women.

Hey to All
I am writing to see if anyone that taped the special on TV Land the other
night would be willing to make me a copy of it. I don't get TV Land :-( ,
so I was unable to see it. I would be willing to pay postage and for the
tape and time. Please email me [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you would be
willing to do this for me. Thanks in advance.

"Y'all try not to look at it as not getting credit for your hard work but as
a great way to make even MORE Mayberry fun for everybody! There can NEVER
be too much Mayberry in this world."
Well, I don't think that I could have said it any better.. Way to go, Allan.
Lots of luck to you and yours,

The Inside TV Land about TAGS was nicely done, and I'm glad that many
saw it as entertaining and insightful. However, to those of us that
have seen all the TAGS specials and retrospectives, or have read the
books, it covered very little new ground. Maybe us old timers know the
TAGS story so well, we may never see any new revelations about the show.
Again, I'm not knocking the special for how it was done, but it was
really mostly old stuff that many of us have seen before.
But for those who hadn't, I'm sure it was most enjoyable.

Hey folks,
Remember the rules here at the Digest. No talking about what you DON'T like
about TAGS. Only about what you do. Color episodes or B&W, they are STILL
Mayberry and even though we all have our favorites......well, our favorites
are what we should focus on.

Hello, friends!
We are fortunate enough to have TVLand; however, we missed the big special
they presented on TAGS!!! Does anyone know if it will be re-run? I can't
believe we were right here at home and didn't remember to watch it! Help!
Thanks!

(NOTE FROM ALLAN: The Inside TV special will air again on Friday on TV Land.
Don't miss it cause it's a GOOD 'EN!! WBMUTBB members Jim Clark and Harvey
Bullock do us all proud. Phil "Ernest T. Bass" Lee has a speaking role (no
Allan "Floyd" Newsome...."How soon they forget.") and Neal Brower (author of
Mayberry 101) makes the Barney Chapter of TAGSRWC look wonderful. Be sure to
see it and set you VCR just in case. It's BIG.)

Hi, Friends!
First, a great big hug to the lovely Miss Poovey for her web site dedicated
to all of us going through Andy withdrawals. In my dictionary, the word
"groovy" has your picture by it. You really do understand our pain. Did you
sing that song for us in your lounge act? And did you wail it out good? I
just bet you did, you're such a fine gal!
Of course, I didn't get to see Inside TAGS, but my understanding of Aunt
Bee is that right before she passed away she phoned Andy and
apologized to him, and anyone who can admit they did wrong and apologize is
one class act! I saw him on, I believe it was Ralph Emery, (sp?) and he said
she told him she was sorry they didn't get along, that it
was her fault, he was the reason the show was a success, etc. Andy told
Ralph they got along fine, she just thought they had problems. But he also
admitted one of the producers often had to help her come
on the set because she would be upset emotionally. She had a little problem
in that area. Andy said though that they got along fine, she just thought
they didn't. But now I understand on the TVLand special, Andy said she hated
him! I sort of read between the lines with the Ralph interview and figured
it
was probably more difficult than he was letting on, but TAGS and its stars
were always such a class act and you never heard a real
critical word of anyone from another person on this show, and I bet we
never do. At least I hope not. They are people, and no one is perfect,
and working together for all those years had to bring out some difficulties
for them.
We just won't go down smut street with
these fine people the way cast mates often do on other shows. And to be
perfectly honest, as much as I adore Aunt Bee I could sort of sense
a hard layer beneath her. I don't know if anyone else sensed this or not
because the one adjective everyone used to describe her character
was "sweet." And yet to me, I always felt like there were mixtures of
sadness and hardness not too far below the surface. Like she (the real
person) had been hurt real bad and wasn't about to let anyone get too
close ever again. Even with her fine acting, (and it in no way hurt the show
or her character, it was just something about her I felt) I always sensed
this about her. Did anyone else? Anyway, that's enough pop psychology from
me to last a lifetime!
And speaking of pop psychology,
Andy to Barney: "Just because you read some dime magazine..."
Barney "Quarter!"
