I just plumb get so excited when I see a Mayberry cast member on another
show. There was our beloved Floyd on the I Love Lucy show this morning,
playing a person announcing little Rickie's Dixieland band. It is the
episode where little Rickie gets stage fright, but later plays the drums
with Lucy playing in the band with him, substituting for an absent kid
who came down with measles. Of course he was great as the flustered
announcer.
I totally agree, a new Mayberry movie would be down right sacrilegous.
I envy you easterners who get to see David & Allan portraying our
favorite characters in the Mayberry spirit, but a movie, no way Jose!
I'm not sure if I spelled that right, but y'all know what I meant.

are right.

I was referring to the board game. my fault. I didn't realize the wrong
answers were on the CD version.

Long live the board game ( and the new one next year!)

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can get a schedule of where Don Knotts will be going
for his book signings? I hope I haven't missed any appearances in Alabama,
Georgia or Tennessee that might be close to where I live...

Howdy All
Just a few lines to let you know how thangs are goin' up here in the
mountains.
Last Friday nite, me, Dud, Briscoe and the boys loaded up on the ol' truck
and went fox huntin' up above Hawk's point. We got up there and built us up
one o' them far's by constriction and made us a big ol' pot of coffee and was
jest sittin' around talkin' man talk and tellin' tales. Did you know you
can hear the train whistle all tha' way over ta Mt Pilot if'n tha weather's
right. Anyway, tha boys tweren't too talkitive like they genly are so
Briscoe decided to get the strangin' instruments off the truck and scrub one
off. They uz bout half way thru "Never hit yore grandma with a great big
stick" when Earnest T. Bass came a crashing thru tha trees and bushes,
shootin off that .22 repeater of his'n, likin to have scaret us to death.
lucky nobody got hurt.
Dud told Briscoe to take a shot at him, he had tha right, but Briscoe said he
kinda hated to kill him. Anyway Earnest T. finally settled down and told us
we was disturbin him. Said he done went and hermitized hisself agin and wuz
livin' in that cave with his Raccoon and possum. Briscoe told him to come on
out and give it another try with wimmin but Earnest T. said, tain't no use,
I just ain't no account.
Briscoe told him, you may be mean and ignorant but don't say you's no account.
Earnest T. said, Aw, you just bein nice". Briscoe said, member that time
you toted that full growed mule 5 miles to tha doctor. You's strong too.
Earnest T. said well, I done went ta town and got me a unyform, a gold tooth
and educashun and all slicked up and it still din't do no good. He said, I
wish Ida just been born a muskrat so I could just poke my head out of a hole
and grab tha first female what come by and live happily ever after.
Anyway we finally got rid of him and Darlene said she saw him tha next day
over ta Idelle Bushy's house choppin wood like a windmill in a tornader. She
noticed ever winder in the house was broke so maybe Earnest T. made contact
this time and it'll take.
Darlene also said Romeena done run off with a dishrag salesman from Raleigh.
That gal always did have a wild streak in her.
Well, better go. Charlene and Andylina and everbody else said, Hey.
I gotta git this down to tha Robert E. Lee natural Bridge and meet the mail
rider. He wont come no further than that.

Watching Gomer last night, I was tickled to see Charlene (Maggie Peterson)
as Gomer's date. She's even cuter in color. Maggie, honey, if you ever
get rid of that real-life Dud Wash of yours, you give me a call. I've got
some prime mountainside property with good, strong boulders where we could
set up housekeeping.

Hi everyone...

I concur with David Browning regarding a Mayberry movie. Better than a
remake of the show in a movie format is a "Return to Mayberry" as they did
in 1986. I think returning to Mayberry a second time would be a mistake.
The Andy Griffith Show is truly a classic...lets leave it that way.

Didn't we do this about a year ago? Coming up with who would fit into a
Mayberry movie without looking like a jerk? Someone's recent suggestions
were the best:

>Barney - David Browning
>Floyd - Allan Newsome
>Ernest T - Phil Lee
>Aunt Bea - Alma Venable
>Whoever the kid was at last Mayberry days would be an excellent Opie as
>he was a dead ringer.
>Goober could be played by Goober.
>Charlene could be played by Charlene.
>Mayor could be played by Andy.
>Howard could be played by Barney.(Don Knotts)
>Otis could be played by Tim Conway.
>Somewhere along the way Tom Hanks could fit into the picture. Maybe as
>Dud Wash?

Don't forget the beautiful voice who played Juanita at Mayberry Days.
(Sorry, ma'am for not remembering your name.)

I just can't picture in my mind (with or without a bucket!) anybody else for
these characters, save the originals! Today's Hollywood would have Opie
molesting Leon, Otis causing alcohol related deaths, Barney setting Andy up
for embezzeling tax money, Ellie poisoning every prescription, Aunt Bee
housing a brothel, Mayor Pike and Clara Edwards carrying on behind the
curtain in the barbershop, John Masters would end up a serial killer, Gomer
and Goober turning Wally's into a chop shop and Floyd - well, can you
imagine what they'd do to that sweet soul? I'd rather stab myself in the
eye with a hot poker than watch anything Hollywood would do to Mayberry in
the 21st Century.

Harriet, the chicken thief - whom what just got winged!

I'm happy to report that here in Central Florida we have another source
for Andy. A new local station, WRDQ, is showing Mayberry episodes in
order on channel 27. They say they will be showing them for quite some
time and they even have a viewer contest starting tonight! Meanwhile,
I'm glad to know that Columbia House finally came to its senses and is
being fair with the shipping costs for the remaining 9 volumes of their
Mayberry series; this has been a sore point with me for some time! And
while I'm at it, let me recommend the adorable S&P shakers and new mug
available at Weaver's; actually, the mug is large enough for a small
planter too; both feature our beloved deputy. Aunt Bee of Orlando

I vote no, too. One of the precious things about Mayberry and all the
Mayberry folks is the sweet simplicity and un-complicated-ness (is that a
word, or what?!) of their town and their lives. Let's face it,
friends...NOTHING is un-complicated nowadays. I fear that the movie makers
would try to modernize Mayberry and it would destroy the memories (even if
they're not real) of "our" lives in Mayberry. I'm not an enemy of "new and
improved" but I believe that some things are perfect just as they are.
Mayberry is one of those things.

Have a good day, everyone!

Just to add my 2cents - I totally agree that a Mayberry movie would be
a terrible idea. Our friends in Mayberry (the black and white ones) are
ALL we need - Without our favorites in the black/white ones even the
color shows are a real letdown. There is only one Barney, Andy, etc. and
that is all there is to say.
True Mayberry fans know and love our TAGS
and there is no replacing the "real things" that make the series so
unforgetible.
I love the Beaver shows too and that movie says it all. No replacing
the real thing there too.
