Subject: TV remakes as movies

It's been interesting reading members' comments voicing our shared disdain
over a big-budget movie recasting our beloved Mayberry actors. I agree, let
TAGS rest.

Many have asserted that all of the recent spate of movies based upon classic
TV shows are awful. That's largely true, but a few come to mind (that
haven't yet been mentioned) that are quite entertaining:

"The Brady Bunch Movie": Very clever premise, positioning the Bradys as an
out-of-sync 1970s retro family in the late 1990s. Made fun of "The Brady
Bunch" and revered it simultaneously. Spawned a watchable but weaker sequel
two years later.

"Lost in Space": Maligned by critics and ignored by most moviegoers, LIS
didn't deserve the bad press it received. It's fast-paced and engaging, and
while it doesn't surpass the originality of the cheesy but cool 1960s
version, it's an adequate diversion for two hours.

"The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas": True, society didn't need either of
the live-action Flintstones movies, but this new film (currently in
theaters) is lots of fun. The cast is superb, as are the costumes, sets,
and special effects. And unlike the original live-action "The Flintstones"
with John Goodman, "Viva Rock Vegas"'s script is simple but solid, and
funny.

I, too, noticed that TVLand changed the lineup of how they were showing
episodes. When TVLand was showing the Fandemonium Weekends, I printed out
the lineups of TAGS as well as Gomer Pyle. The numbers in front of the
episode descriptions did not necessarily match the order in which they
filmed. To keep up with the VCR, I go up on TVLand's Web site and print out
the schedule for the current day and the following day. These schedules give
an episode number and episode description. I decide which ones to tape that
I need and which ones I don't. It's worked out so far.

Hey Ya'll!
My hearing is not what it used to be... in fact, it never was...
However, wasn't the lady who replaced Aunt Bee as the Foster's
Furniture Polish lady from "Pleasantville"????

Boy, Irony can be ironic sometimes....

Does anyone know why WTBS dropped TAGS and are there any plans for them to
start airing it again. TVLand is fine but I'll take all of Mayberry I can get.

there!) to the old shows thus creating new fans!!!!!!!!!!! >>

Hey To All...
Okie Dokie those pickles must be so powerful they are pickling my brain... A
made for TV movie?? I thought this supposedly purposed movie was headed
straight for the picture show. Now I can't right say I would care to partake
in viewing a movie remake of Mayberry and all the beloved citizens being
recasted and rewritten for...Heck, I can't even grasp the concept of today's
writers being that good...but I guess I can more invision a made for TV
remake than a theatre movie. Well, then again, maybe I can't since that would
blewie even when you think of the Return to Mayberry made for TV movies.

So far the other remakes of classic shows that have this has been likened to
started out a theatres and for box office success. It also got me to
thinking...no, I can't think of an original casting portrayed in these movies
but if one was to throw on the discussion table cast members who DID have
something to do with the remakes, seems like I heard Barbara Billingsley
returned to the "Leave It To Beaver" as some other character with Janine
Turner as June Cleaver. And I think, one or two of the original cast members
were in the background of the "Lost In Space" remake. Didn't venture out to
attend the festivities of these remakes so just going on what I remember
hearing or reading... Maybe I need the bucket passed to me or I need to
reseal Aunt Bee's pickles up.

TBS didn't Drop TAGS. They lost the rights to air TAGS to TV Land on a
national basis. TV Land now has exclusive rights to TAGS. That's also why
WGN no longer shows TAGS. They won't been showing it again for a LONG time.
