Howdy all!
Just want to say I live in Athens, Alabama and "TAGS" is only on on our local
channels. I work during the day but from 4:00 to 5:00 the TV in the waiting
room of the cancer treatment center where I work is always on "TAGS". You
see, the local channel that carries the show has 2 episodes back-to-back.
It's my favorite time of day! Hopefully our local cable company will pick up
TV Land so that I can get more of the show. But, NEVER FEAR!...I have about
26 tapes of the show and whenever I need a fix I can always put one in the
VCR and be happy!! I don't have all the episodes taped yet but have a pretty
good start.
It sure is nice to read all the mail from fans like myself. I look forward to
this newsletter daily! Thanks a million!

Did you hear that Cousin Virgil's bus had a little run-in with a produce
truck? Couple of fella were illegally vendin' and sellin' on the side of
the road and before Barney could run 'em off - CRUNCH - the bus ran square
over a whole bushel of lima beans. Virgil wasn't hurt 'cause he wasn't
even on the bus - got off to mail a post card that won't get here til
tomorrow anyway.

I've loved the color episode Only a Rose for years; in fact it just might
be my all-time favorite one what with my feeling a kinship with Aunt Bee.
It alwlays makes me cry tears of sorrow when Opie shows her the broken
rosebush and tears of poignant joy when Clara kisses her cheek and pats
her shoulder. So last night I finally got to see the epilogue of this
one and was tickled to hear she and Clara sing their old school song.
How beautiful they both were with their friendship renewed and
strengthened by Clara's sacrifice, sitting on the front porch
reminiscing. How much lovelier we all are when thinking nice thoughts
and caring for one another; I wish I could always remember to do that!
Just sharing a pleasant moment and inspirational thought, Aunt Bee of
Orlando

Hope I'm doing this right. It's been a long time since I sent anything in,
but this is BIG. I haven't heard anyone mention that Don Knotts and Tim
Conway will be appearing in Myrtle Beach, SC on July 20. My Dad surprised
me with three tickets and the Don's Book, "Barney Fife and Other Characters
I've Known".

Just thought I'd put out the word in case some folks might want to make the
scene.

Subject: Colored episodes

The first colored episode that I could hear (been getting TVLand about a
week now, but we couldn't hear anything) was the one where Opie and Arnold
found the baby. I never knew Jack Nicholson was the baby's father. (Lord, I
hope I spelled that man's name right this time, but if I didn't, y'all just
pretend I did, ok?)
I'm noticing some neat things about these colored shows. One is that Aunt
Bee
seems to smile a lot more and just generally seems to be sweeter. Of course,
now, this could just be a reaction of being away from TAGS for such a long
time, but I'd like your opinion on this. Do any of you seem to think she's
smiling more and radiating more of a sweetness with these
episodes?
The other is how the adults all dress like...well, adults. Any occasion is
enough reason for a suit and tie, and a dress with stockings. No one is ever
wearing a shirt with a funny saying or anything like that. Hey, me and Lydia
are real laid back and we like it that way. I'm just wondering if some day
we are going to look back and think how silly we looked dressed the way we
are at our age. Maybe we all have gone too far in the other direction, you
know?
But I am enjoying these colored episodes better than I had remembered
enjoying them. And that is good news. Dime store clerk, gold truck watcher
extraordinaire, Laura Lee Hobbs

Hey,

Boy, did y'all ever come through for me! I have one of the worlds most
complete lists of dining places in Mt. Airy and surrounding environs! Thank
you for the help. Will let you know how the adventure goes.
