I agree with a few people's assessment about TV Land's switch back to the
black and white episodes...I was disappointed. I have been recording a
large number of all episodes and it totally threw me off last night when I
went to record. I am happy to watch them again, but to change for no
apparent reason was disappointing. Oh well, back to taping the ones I
missed early on!

TVLand is adding it to "Twice as nice mornings". First TAGS then Gomer
Pyle.. They will pick up the color episodes from there where they left off.

Hi all,
It does look like they skipped the final season episodes on TV Land. That
includes the one in which Aunt Bee learns to fly a plane, my favorite episode
ever centered on her. It also includes Barney's very last appearance on the
show, the one where he gets Andy and Aunt Bee to host an east-west summit
meeting at her house. As for Jack Nicholson, he's probably responsible for
the show's all time strangest moment...while he's on trial for stealing a TV
set, Aunt Bee doesn't want to convict him because "He seems like such a sweet
man..."
As far as I know Jack is the only Oscar winner to appear on the show...but
nominee Teri Garr appeared once, and Director's Guild Award Winner Ron Howard
(Apollo 13) was, of course, a regular.

I got the scoop from TV Land so I thought I would share.
The below correspondence is from TV Land:
I have good news for fans of both the color AND the black and white episodes
of The Andy Griffith Show. First, the black and white episodes (all the ones
with Barney) will continue to air in our regular rotation in the evenings.
Then, in June, the color episodes will begin airing seperately as part of
Twice as Nice Mornings. - pretty cool!

Subject: Elnora sighting on the Monkees/AnutBee and Andy
Earlier this week I switched to a ScreenGemsNetwork station looking for a
Griffith episode. I caught the end of an old Monkees show, and there before
my unbelieving TAGS-lovin eyes was Eleanora Poultice...aka Reta Shaw, aka
Big Maude, aka Ralph Henderson frolicking with the Monkees with one of those
cheap fur things around her neck.
Now we know where they got their great singin' talent and "trained
voices"....
"Here we come" (breathe) "walking down the street" (exhale, inhale) "get
the funniest looks from" (big breath now)
"everyone we meet...Hey Hey we're..." (interrupted)
You think you get funny looks, you should see the sneers that two of my
other famous students got. Leonard Blush had to wear that mask and he got
all kinds of sneers. Barney Fife, that splendid splinter of Tenor, just
got looks of disbelief when he sang a perfect baritone. You boys just
don't know funny looks are at all. Now take off that funny sock cap and
lets try our larynx exercises. I still think you ought to sing "In the
Merry Month of May" at your first big concert instead of "Sugar".
- ------------------
I was musing this week about the relationship between Andy and Aunt Bee. I
think its interesting that the Griffith show never really featured any
married couple (until Emmett and Martha) but at times they played Aunt Bee
and Andy off of each other in
almost spousal wars of words.
Remember the episode with Mr. Frisbee? Poor Opie was stuck in the
middle of that argument 'Tell your Father his suppers on the table" Tell
her I ain't Hungry" "Tell him to suit himself"....."He don't know what to
tell ya"
How can we forget "Call the Man" in the great freezer episode?
Also when Aunt Bee took a strong maternal approach and didn't want Opie
hangin' around the jail 'cause it was a bad
influence.
Do you remember other times they sounded more like husband and wife, than
Aunt and Nephew? (Now I ain't trying to start a moluage here, I prefer to
think of the happier times between them, such as the Bed Jacket episode, and
the time Aunt Bee thought she should marry the Dry Cleaner Mr. Goss. "If
it's not right for you, Its not right for us"
I'm glad we're about done talkin about that movie. I just hate it when we
get obtuse!

Subject: Citizens' Arrest
Dear Dan,
While it's shorely possible that Gomer could give Laura Lee Hobbs' a
Citizens' Arrest for a lot of things but I don't actually park the gold
trucks, Dan,
I just mostly wait on them as they drive through town with my "Laura Lee
Hobbs
Welcomes All Gold Trucks" sign, and I wave to them when I see any if they
pass by. Truth be told, it's been kind of a slow patch for gold trucks coming
by Ozark.
I do have an idea I wanted to pitch at the Digest though. It's something
like this. Have you ever wanted to test how TAGS savvy the group you were
with are? If so, trying saying something only an Andy fan could appreciate
like, "Expecting any gold trucks to be passing by?" or "Just how big a
moulage (sp) do you think this project's going to be?" or, try turning to
another guy sitting beside you, and say,
"Our only crime is that we're attractive to women." Just any well known
Mayberry phrase will do, and heck there's thousands of them. "Boy, giraffes
are selfish." Just say it right out loud to a small group of people and get
their reaction. If they are true fans, they will know at once what you are
talking about. If they are not, they will just look at you funny and maybe
walk away. But no real harm will be done.
My best one? To the "expecting any gold trucks" one, I once got a "Who do
you think you are, Laura Lee Hobbs?" And I was too embarrassed to own up to
it in public! But if you're the one who said it, yeah, that was me you were
talking to! I apologize for being a chicken.
Laura Lee Hobbs, taking off my stockings (heck, now, I ain't THAT old, I
just felt like using an old timey word 'cause sometimes I feel like an old
timey gal, that's all) and doing a little gold truck watching before I get
arrested for sure. I'm bound to end up in jail before it's over. Just hope I
get a cell mate as nice as Otis.

Hey To All!
All I can say when I flipped over to TVLand was a BIG Amen and Hooray!
Ducking my head here but I would be partial more to the earlier shows. It
looks to me like maybe TVLand is starting back at the beginning of the
series...are we gonna see them in order? When they aired Family Affair, the
episodes were kind of in order but there were some episodes missing in the
lineup that I never did see aired. Maybe they only have rights to air a
certain number of the episodes?
I just loved the show where Aunt Bee trys to win Opie's affection. I giggle
through her "sporting" activities from playing baseball to fishin'. Then I
get all teary eyed as my heart breaks when she doesn't think she can get
Opie's affection...and drats! she left the bird cage open for the bird to fly
away! This one is right up there with the Mr. McBeevie episode.....Pass the
Posh Puffs Please!
Guess I will go console myself in the pickle reserve stash!

I am one of those who love the color episodes and was looking forward to
viewing them once again after many years and with the epilogues so I was
real upset to find them missing from the daily nighttime schedule. Upon
e-mailing TVLand I received the reply that they will be returning to the
morning lineup of their Twice as Nice Mornings! So I'm calm once
again!! Aunt Bee of Orlando

I inquired to TV Land about why they went back to the B&W episodes
without completing the color episodes and received the following reply.
Maybe we will get to see Aunt Bee take those flying lessons after all!
