YOU ARE A UNIQUE CONTRIBUTION TO THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU.

I watched TAGS last night when I got home from work. I thought Barney was so
funny when he was beign sheriff for the day. Especially when the two
farmers came in arguing and Barney was trying to break it up. That is so
hilarious. Then the end was so good,'cause Barney really had Andy good when
he locked himself in. Barney was going to enjoy his moment, but, he ended
up locking himself in jail too.

That is so much like life sometimes.

Vicky

Boy, this is exciting! Charlie the albatross dragger spotted Johnny Coons
in a color episode. As for as us experienced Johnny watchers know, this is
the first sighting of a color Johnny. You know what that means, don't you.
If there was one, there might be more. Come on, all you Johnny Watchers,
over to the color episodes and keep a sharp lookout.

Subject: Unseen characters

TAGS fans,

While Juanita and Sarah are the two most famous unseen characters,
they were by no means the only ones in Mayberry. They were always
mentioning characters that were never shown, which just made the town seem
that more real. I have a very specific picture in my mind of what both
women looked like and I'm glad they weren't shown.

Another show that did the same thing (then blew it) was Happy Days.
Remember, for the first few years Joanie's friend Jenny Picalo was unseen
and the descriptions given of her by Joanie and Richie were hilarious.
Then they made the mistake of showing her and there was virtually no way
anyone was going to live up to the pic we had in our minds. The same would
have been true if we had ever seen Juanita or Sarah.

On the other hand, we can congratulate TAGS for actually bucking this
trend and showing us Goober who--at least in my opinion--lived up to and
exceeded what I could have imagined of him. Just another instance of the
TAGS people having a great sense of what to do and when.

Hey To All,
Land sakes Allen! You should have said something sooner, I didn't know nary
a thing about this site in the year I have been apart of this piece of
Mayberry! I LOVE Aunt Bee's cookbooks! I own all three of 'em!!!!

Thanks for considering those of us who weren't in the know! I'll have to
take me some time to peruse those recipes and see if I can offer my fellow
Mayberry friends a new recipe or two!

Thanks Allen, this is almost as exciting as counting the Pickle Stash!

Say what you will, but I think Andy really found Opie under a cabbage leaf.
(Judging by his hair color, it would have to be red cabbage, of course.)

By the way, in the Black and White episodes, when was the first mention of
the color of Opie's hair?

If I'm not wrong, it was during the jinx episode. Barney tries several
good-luck charms, including rubbing the head of a red-haired boy. Do you
think people were surprised to find out his hair was red? Or was there a TV
Guide cover photo of TAGS that would have revealed that first?

I may be telling you all what you already know, but I have just
experienced a TAGS revelation!!
I was watching the episode this AM which introduces the Darlings (seen
it a thousand times) and
when Aunt Bee was gathering the plates from the family (Andy was letting
them stay in the cell),
she asked if the boys had enough, and glory be, I actually heard and saw
one of 'em say that he was "plumb full", well, "I nearly died" ..... (oh
that's another episode) ... and THEN when she's leaving the cell and
they're gettin' ready to play, Briscoe tells the boys to say thanks to
Aunt Bee and they do!!!!! WHERE HAVE I BEEN?? Like I said, I've seen
this and every other episode a million times, and this was the first
time I noticed it! Now I know that was part of a trivia thing I saw
somewhere (maybe the Bullet), but it just pickled me tink to see it!!!
And one other trivia question I saw or read was which episode has "2"
people with beards appearing in the same episode, and last night I saw
the color episode about the statue of Seth Taylor, and I was wonderin'
if it's the "statue"
and Brian the chisler (no pun intended) ... anybody know 'bout that?

Ah well, I love the little teasures and gems that I continue to notice
on this wonderful show we all share ... keeps me from being grumpy and
moody, and "one thing about Gypsies, they're moody",
peace to all - Michael 'the gypsy' Burch ...."obliged for not giving me
an arrest"

<< After an appearance on the sitcom, "Make Room for Daddy," CBS decided to
give Griffith his own show, aptly titled, "The Andy Griffith Show.">>

I've always found it interesting that when Andy emerges from his sheriff's
car in order to write Danny Thomas a ticket, the audience applauds. That
makes you think he was quite a celebrity already. But was he that well known?

Our old friend Flo would be GREAT as Juanita! It would have to be somebody
who's the exact opposite of Thelma Lou - and I can't imagine Thelma Lou ever
telling anyone to "Kiss Her Grits!" Great idea!

Andy Griffith (1926): Actor who originally wanted to be an opera singer.
Upon graduating college, Griffith went on the road with his wife, performing
musical numbers and comedic monologues. His most famous monologue was
called, "What It Was Was Football." >>

A book by a friend of mine, Tim Hollis, called "Dixie Before Disney",
mentions a yearly historical pageant performed in North Carolina. According
to Hollis, a *very* young Andy Griffith appeared there several times as Sir
Walter Raleigh. Anyone else ever hear this?

LOL! Good one Laura Lee! Seriously, the only reference I remember to Mrs.
Taylor came in the Danny Thomas pilot, when she was mentioned as having died
(Opie: "Who stepped on Ma?") Anyone else remember anything like this?

Yes, Mayberry does have a few errors like this...like, Barney's time of
service with the sheriff's department changes several times, Goober's last
name changes from Beasley to Pyle (and suddenly he's Gomer's cousin), Andy
had several girlfiriends who grew up across the street from the church, a
goat probably wouldn't really eat that much dynamite and wouldn't explode if
it did (maybe in a different way...we won't go into that). But that is okay,
it doesn't make Mayberry any less nicer of a place for me personally. After
all, all of the great TV and movie works have some type of problem in them.
Heck, the entire plot of "Citizen Kane" is based on a word the title
character whispered on his death bed...with no one else in the room!

I really liked Laura Lee Hobbs' bucket-thinking about Opie's ma but we
don't agree on everything. I maintain that she was an orphaned Irish gal
who was on a holiday, getting to know these United States. I can just
picture this pretty little Irish gal with porcelain skin, rosy cheeks,
cherry lips, and flowing red hair. Can you imagine the vision of
loveliness she portrayed as she stepped off the bus? Andy was probably
a-coming out of the diner and stopped dead in his tracks when he spied
her! Like the way LLH thinks that Opie's ma was a gypsy and Andy still
had a soft spot in his heart for vagabond folks; I feel that his pretty
Irish wife is the reason that Andy was so kind to Malcohm Merriweather,
another foreigner on holiday in Mayberry. It also explains Opie's red
hair and freckles! Okay, let me get back to my voice exercises, I've got
a singing engagement down at the Congo Club tonight. E-may, E-may,
E-may!!!
