Hey To All!
Why Kathy, don't great minds think alike! I was thinking of Polly Holiday
when I read the question about who would make a good "Juanita"! I don't
recall ever meeting "Juanita" but Polly sure did pop into my thought and
opinion! I will second your nomination!
Anyone want an Aunt Bee Pickle for their weekend dinner?

Unseen people or even events are very special. Thank goodness we never saw
Sarah over at the switchboard or Juanita at the diner. It was before my time,
but I've heard tapes of "Fibber McGhee & Molly". Every episode ended with the
closet door opening. It was an awful racket. But when radio died and they
tried to bring it to TV, it just wasn't the same. It was better when 20
million people had 20 million visions of what the crashing objects were like.
It's too bad the shows today require NO imagination. Thank goodness we have

Subject: Mayberry discrepancies
Before the recent talk, I hadn't really given much thought to the various
discrepancies in character names and other "factual data" in TAGS. But
here's one I've noticed in the past few days: The actor Burt Mustin went by
at least three names -- Judd ("Goodbye Sheriff Taylor"), Jubal ("The
Mayberry Band"), and Sam ("Opie's Newspaper"). I wonder how many different
characters he played over the years??
When you think about it (with or without the bucket), I imagine the writers
didn't attach much importance to staying consistent with Mayberry "facts."
At the time, they probably would have laughed if someone predicted that
forty years later there would be a special club for folks like us who not
only continue to watch TAGS episodes over and over, but even correspond via
computer to exchange show trivia, favorite quotes, and how many times we
spot a particular extra!! If they had even considered this a possibility,
they would likely have taken greater pains to be consistent.
Consistent or not, I still love my TAGS!

>Seriously, the only reference I remember to Mrs. Taylor came in the Danny
Thomas pilot, when she was mentioned as having died
>(Opie: "Who stepped on Ma?") Anyone else remember anything like this?
She is mentioned one time on TAGS, in "Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee." Andy is
trying to explain the different kinds of love, and when he gets to that
"special deep-down kind of love that comes from way, down deep in your
heart," Opie asks, "Did you and Mom have that kind of love?" Andy replies,
"Yes son, we did."
A couple of other episodes mention Andy's wedding and that fact that Opie
has no mother, but this is the only time she is referred to directly.

According to Hollis, a *very* young Andy Griffith appeared there several

That's a production called "The Lost Colony." It's still being performed
right today, in an outdoor theater in Manteo, NC. I haven't seen it, but
the gist of the story is that a group of English settlers led by Raleigh
settled in Roanoke in 1585. Raleigh then returned to England, but when he
came back the next year, the colony had mysteriously vanished, hence the
title.
Andy Griffith performed the role of Sir Walter Raleigh for a number of
years, then fickle fate took over.

Subject: Midway
I have returned from a glorious week on Midway Island, land of the Gooney
birds. And along that vein, I was making a bike tour, or as we called our
bikes, "horses", so making my horse tour, I went up radar hill, the tallest
point on the island at 45 feet above sea level. Standing in the shade of the
wall of the now defunct and demolished radar building, was about 20 to 25
gooneys, enjoying what shade they could crowd into. As I walked by, they all
turned and faced me. watching to see what I was going to do. I thought to
myself, "Here is a ready made choir," so I stopped and took my position as
conductor, and lead them in the first few words of the sond I love so dearly,
"Welcome, Sweet springtime, we greet thee in song." Well, they must not have
been ready 'cause none of them sang along. I was just glad someone else was
not around to see this as I may have been locked up for the rest of my visit.
Just thought you'd like to know even Midway Island brought Mayberry to mind.

Hi Allan: You may recall that several months ago I wrote you and
mentioned that I had the North Carolina "JL327" license plate! Once I
remember to take a picture of it, I will send it to you for inclusion on
the web site! I also wanted to let you know that I have my entire
Hawthorne Village "Welcome to Mayberry" collection for sale on Ebay
right now. It includes 8 rare and retired pieces that were produced for
only a short time period in the mid 1990s (squad car, figures,
buildings, etc.). I wanted to ask if there was a forum for me to let
your fellow TAGSRWC members know of this sale. I acknowledge that this
would benefit me directly with the auction, but I do feel that the set
is so seldomly seen for sale that it would be worthwhile for the site's
fans. The auction can be searched through the words "Hawthorne Village"
or from my ID jl327. PS - I was one of the original members of TAGSRWC
in Raleigh North Carolina, and knew Jim Clark well. Thanks for your
time and consideration. Bill.
