Subject: Mayberry is Everywhere!

Hi Gang,
I don't know if anyone else saw this, but I was
watching a show on The Discovery Channel the other
night called 'Would You Believe It?'
There was a past in the show about the original
Siamese Twins - Chang and Eng Bunker. It told about
their growing up and marriages etc. and went on to say
that when they retired from 'show business' they
retired to, of ALL places
....................................
Mt. Airy, North Carolina!!!
I was even more shocked when my girlfriend noticed
this too! LOL
I think I'm a good influence on her! LOL
My office at work is now complete with my entire
Mayberry collection - its wall-to-wall Mayberry!
Every guest that comes into our offices gets a tour of
what has been dubbed "The Shrine" LOL I still need to
add several of the new items from Weavers, but I'm not
'allowed' to buy anymore myself so there is something
left for birthdays and Christmas!
One last note, and I hate to brag, but we are leaving
for Upper Mighigan on a week long fishing trip on
Wednesday. No phones, no radio, no plumbing, no
electric, no people, no satellite dish - heaven really
does exist on Earth! LOL
Everyone have a great week and we will miss Milwaukee
while we're gone - NOT ! haha
Eric

>From: Janet Anderson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
...The actor Burt Mustin went by at least three names -- Judd ("Goodbye
Sheriff Taylor"), Jubal ("The Mayberry Band"), and Sam ("Opie's Newspaper").
I wonder how many different characters he played over the years??
>>>

In various episodes, he was known as Jud, Judd, Jubal, Burt, Old Man
Crowley, and The Old Geezer. All of these different names, though, are not
really mistakes. When the writers created a character in a script, they
used whatever name sounded right to them. They had no idea what actor would
be hired to play the part. True, the producers could have changed the
script, but most of the time they figured nobody would notice. And, truth
be told, without video tape and endless reruns, nobody ever would have
(except me -- [wink] ).

>For what episodes did Don win his Emmy's for?
>Thanks, Jane E. in GA

The first three were for Outstanding Supporting Role by an Actor in a Comedy
Series, for the 1960-61, 61-62 and 62-63 season. The fourth was for "The
Return of Barney Fife;" the fifth for "Barney Comes to Mayberry."

Trivia time: What actor (not associated with TAGS) won three Emmys for
playing the same character on three different series? As far as I know,
only one person has ever done this.

Subject: Meadowview III

Just curious as to who is planning to go to Meadowview III this month.
I hope to see several friends from last year. I will be moving into the area
next week - so I won't have far to go. (Yea!) Jeff K. - Are you going to try
to bring pork chop sandwiches from Snappy's? I got that Praline recipe that
you made last & plan on bringing some over. I just can't get enough of it.
(Major sugar high). I hope to see a lot of folks there with this being the
40th year of TAGS. We went to the 30th reunion in Charlotte & I was in awe.
My parent's gave me their memorabilia & I was tickled to death. It's sad we
have lost so many of the regulars since then, but I have pictures,
autographs, & memories that will last me a life time.

For those of you who like to pick - we don't have a definite time yet -
bring your instruments. Plan to have a jam around 7 or 8 on Friday night. We
have about a half dozen people ready to jam so far. Including Randy who runs
the Dillard's (Darlings)Web Site.
Sorry to run on so long - just wanted to check in as I've been out of
circulation for several months recently. Take care & hope to see you there.

concerning the same person playing more than one part during the TAGS
series,my
hubby brought up this fact: those were the days of no-reruns, except that
particular
summer. Therefore, most of the writers did not care or think that people would
remember stuff from one year to the next. If I remember correctly, Clara had
2 different last names, or did she start out as one person and changed and
played
another later on?

Subject: The Sam Becker Case

I can't remember if the following has ever been addressed, but I will
ask it anyway. When Andy went to Sam Becker's to help deliver the baby, I
am assuming he took the squad car. That being the case, how did Barney
manage to get out to the farm in all the rain. It is apparent that he went
all alone. Also in the same episode, Barney had just hung up on the phone
when Andy made a call and in doing so he apologized to Sarah for waking her
up. She must really be able to get to bed and fall asleep fast, if she was
already sleeping when Andy called. Just something to think about.

The recent discussion of Sarah and Juanita never being seen on TAGS make me
"thank": how many other TV characters were referenced, and perhaps even
heard, but never shown?

I can think of two: Carlton the Doorman on "Rhoda" (the character was voiced
by Lorenzo Music, also the voice of TV's Garfield) and Maris, Niles's
Crane's ex-wife on "Frasier."

Can anyone think of any others?

TAGS Jim Linsey just appeared on Flipper. He is playing a scientist that wants
to steal Flipper away from the boys that love him in order to study dolfins.
He still has a hint of southern accent, so it must have been his real one on
TAGS.

>Miss Poovey asked some good questions about Andy's first wife, little
>Opie's mother, like how do you suppose he met her, what about HER
>family, etc.

I just figured that Andy married someone overseas when he was "over there
during the war." But I guess that wouldn't account for the red hair.

>Heck, the entire plot of "Citizen Kane" is based on a word the title
>character whispered on his death bed...with no one else in the room!

Even better: The sled was left behind when he was taken from his family. How
did it show up in the trash pile at Xanadu? Did anyone catch the episode of
The Dick Van Dyke show when it was explained that Little Richie's middle
name is Rosebud, and why?

Here's one to ponder - The Darlings always drove their pick-up to town, Andy
and Barney drove the squad car to the Darlings, Charlene hitch-hiked to town
when she wanted a divorce - what did Ernest T. use to get around? He sure
did a lot of walking........I guess that's why he was so "healthy"!

I was born and raised in the North, so some of the phrases used on show
confuse me. I was watching the "Pickle" episode the other night, and
Aunt Bea mentioned something about not "putting on airs." I have heard
this phrase before, but I am wondering exactly what it means and what the
origin of the phrase is. I am sure one of you "southerners" can help me
out!

Does anyone know if there are any plans for postage stamps honoring TAGS?
With all the fans worldwide, seems they would be very popular. I wonder how
they get voted in. Any one with "Postal" connections out there?

After all, TAGS is the best television show ever produced.

Hi!

I heard recently that Anita Corsault (Helen Crump) passed away. Is it true?
If so, does anyone know the cause of death or when it was. I was suprised
and sorry to hear such a thing. I certainly admired her work on TAGS.
