Hey Gang,

Through the kind efforts of a few good friends and Mayberry fans, we have
added another special guest to the lineup for Mayberry at MeadowView 3.

Barbara Stuart, who appeared in one TAGS episode but is mostly remembered as
"Miss Bunny" on "Gomer Pyle, USMC" will be with us as well!!

We are so excited to have her join the cast for this great event. Other
performers include, The Dillards (The Darling Boys), Ronnie Schell (Duke
Slater on Gomer Pyle), Maggie Peterson (Charlene Darling), Jean Carson (Fun
Girl Daphne/Convict Naomi) and Elizabeth MacRae (Lu Ann Poovie on Gomer Pyle).

We will also have the VW Boys, David Browning and our own Allan Newsome. Make
plans to attend.

Tickets are $25 + tax in advance or $30 + tax the day of the show. Please
give me a call if you need anymore info.

We will also be having "Aunt Bee's Picnic" that afternoon (all you can eat
buffet meal).

Looking forward to seeing you here on June 24!!

Gary

Hey To All,
According to a cast bio or two I have seen, Ms. Corsault died in November
1996 after a battle with cancer. I believe that "People" magazine ran an
article when she died. I don't know if there is a way to search their
archieves or not. She was a very fine actress. I know there probably
aren't any more "Return To Mayberry" movies gonna be made WITH the ORIGINAL
actors/actresses but if there were, wonder how they would address the absence
of Helen since she was married to Andy. There is just NO WAY for a recast!

"puttin on airs":It probably goes back to England; there, the classes kept
quite
seperate. The song,Londondery air" comes to mind. Maybe it was a british
expression
about those people of "money" and "upper classes" and the poorer people made
fun of the ((now here is another of my favorite southern sayins: uppity actin'))
people. Puttin on airs is tryin to act like you are from a better class of
people
(monied) than you really are. OR....maybe it is kinda like the expression
uppity:
puttin on airs...would be keepin' your uppity nose in the air, thinkin' you
were better than somebody else. I do not know exactly where the expression comes
from, but I Sure do know what it means!

Just wondering if anyone watched "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" the other
night. I didn't realize all the Mayberry characters that are in that movie.
I saw Barney, of course, also Ms. Poultice, Judd, Clara Edwards, and there
was a 5th one too. Can't remember who it was now. Also a voice I remember
without ever seeing them was that guy on Charlie's Angels that gave them
their assignments. Lots of luck to you and yours, Robin

As far as I know, there are no plans for an Andy Griffith show stamp. Only a
few TV series have ever been so honored, and they were all part of the
"Celebrate the Century" series ("I Love Lucy" in the 1950s, "Star Trek" in the
1960s, "All in the Family" in the 1970s, "The Cosby Show" in the 1980s and
"Seinfeld" in the 1990s). One wrinkle to think about: US postage stamps do
not honor living people. Except for US Presidents, a person depicted on a
stamp must have been dead for at least ten years. That means Aunt Bea and
Floyd could be shown but Andy, Barney and Opie could not.

How about Charlie on "Charlie's Angels"? I am sure the voice is John
Forsythe, but I do not believe he was ever shown.

    Hey ya'll
In regards to the question about the actor winning Emmy awards for=20
portraying the same character on three shows, I believe it was the grat=20
Kelsey Grammer playing Frasier on Cheers and his own show, and, I think,=20
Wings.
This week's morning color episodes feature Barn's replacement, who was=20
played by the underappreciated Jack Burns. On Thursday both episodes feature=
=20
Barney, including the second one, The Legend of Barney Fife, which features=20
the two of them.
While no one approaches the genius of Mr. Knotts, I think Jack Burns was=
=20
funny. He did great comic work as a part of a team with Avery Schreiber for=20
years, in particular a running gag as a cabbie and his fare. But being the=20
Mayberry deputy wasn't in the cards. It's hard to follow a legend =E2=80=94=20=
ask Sam=20
Jones.
    Peace, love and Andy always,

I was born and raised in Tennessee. The phrase "putting on airs" basically
means to show off or brag on oneself. I have never heard this phrase
personally, no one uses it much down here anymore. Just let me know if you
have another one you need help with.

Perhaps he is a bovestrian, like Otis. He mentions in "The Education of
Ernest T. Bass" that he owns a cow. Or, maybe after he toted that sick
jackass 5 miles to the doctor, he kept it and used it for transportation.

Subject: Three-Emmy role

Congratulations to Dan Goodwin and Sam White who correctly answered my
trivia question from yesterday:

Q: What actor won three Emmy awards for playing the same character on three
different TV series?

A: Kelsey Grammer, playing Dr. Frasier Crane on "Cheers," "Wings," and of
course, "Frasier."

For their knowledge of TV trivia, each of these gentlemen will win a genuine
ceramic pelican (just stop by the carnival on your way home to pick it up.)

Just read the Surry Arts Council 's latest newsletter. Their Volunteer of

silent auction. He was given this honor because he maintains the SAC
website. He's a prince!

you know...i've been thinking about all this talk about opie's mother...i'm
pretty confident that the fact that no one really new the real story to her
was just another attempt to keep the show interesting as being the same case
for juanita and sarah...i'm assuming the writers didn't really even have a
story amongst themselves about her...just a thought

about Andy's heart attack. I won't believe it until I hear it here!

Subject: Otis

You know, I love Otis. I mean, I really love that old Pooh Bear. But it's
easy for us to over-look him because he doesn't have any of the
characteristics that usually make an actor shine in a group. He doesn't
have that physical "something," nor does he have a delivery like Floyd or
Barney. Now, he's great, don't get me wrong. And who could stand out
when you're pitted against those two? And yet, Hal Smith is able to hold
his own, and get inside your heart like a warm little puppy. He's someone
you WANT to love and take care of.
But, like Barney said that time he and Andy were imaging Otis had wrecked
his car and died, Otis never done a mean thing, never said a harsh word to
anybody, was always kind, etc...
He just had one weakness, and he had the good sense not to harm anybody
else because of his drinking. And I was so grateful when the Mayberry movie
came out, that at least they had Otis sober and driving an ice cream truck.
That was perfect, wasn't it? What a fine job for Pooh Bear.
Otis never "put on airs" (which means, acting better than anyone else). Like
the time the town awarded him the honor of being related to Nathan
Tibbs (I THINK I remember the right name)--who was somehow a big shot in
the history of Mayberry--and Otis said in effect it's silly to take credit
for your birth; to take the honor for what someone else did. And
yet, how many people actually do just that? When you think about it, it
is just about the silliest thing a person should take pride in.
I'm proud of my family because they are my family, but it's up to me as to
whether I leave a legacy of honor or dishonor. It would be as unfair
for me to take the credit for the good deeds people have done in my family,
as it would for me to have to bear the burden for the sins of
my family.
Otis was wiser than most in Mayberry. He understood that right from the
beginning.
He had a big heart, he knew how to get our Barney (but never in a mean way;
their scenes together are some of the funniest on TAGS), he never
met anybody he didn't like (well, maybe his mother-in-law), and I don't
think he gets the recognition he deserves often enough.
So, here's to you, Pooh Bear. "Over the teeth and over the gums, Look out
liver, Here it comes!"
Laura Lee Hobbs, gold truck watcher extraordinaire, dime store clerk, and
teetotaller, but I still love my Otis--but I am glad he's now sober
Andy: "Otis, having it out with a woman is what landed you in jail."
Otis: "Well, she threw a plate at me!"
Andy:" "But you threw a Leg-of-Lamb at her."
Otis: "But I missed!"
Andy: "Yeah, but you hit her mother!"
Otis: "Yeah, right in the mouth."
Barney, comes in: "Hey Otis, I just seen your mother-in-law coming from
the dentist."
