Can anyone name the original show and can you tell me how his wife appeared in her only actual appearance although she was mentioned frequently? >> I don't know how Gladys appeared on "December Bride" when she appeared, but that was the show. Pete and Gladys Cooper later got their own spinoff called..."Pete and Gladys". Mash being one example I thought of. There wash BJ''s wife and baby, Hawkeye's Dad. Radar's Uncle and Mom. Klinger's wife, Major Burns wife and the list goes on. Just an example but think about it. We could talk about it for weeks and not get them all. "Epstein's Mother" (her real name ;-) ) from "Welcome Back, Kotter" always sent notes to school to allow her son Juan Luis to be excused from an activity or to explain his missing homework. Detective Belker's mother from that excellent police drama, "Hill Street Blues" was never seen, but I believe Mick called her (or she him) at least once in every episode. "Hello, ma..." It would be nice if I could add Barney's mother to the list of "unseen mothers", but we actually get to see her in one episode. Anyone care to mention which episode that was, and under what circumstances we see her? I'll see ya. (Nice name, BTW.) ;-) That Floyd quote is from "The Rehabilitation of Otis". Floyd tells that story to Andy and Barney when they come to the barbershop to ask Floyd if he's seen Otis lately, because he hadn't come in with a snootful since he left so mad at Barney earlier on. The boys were FINALLY able to drag it out of Floyd that Otis had gone to Mount Pilot. It's a HILARIOUS scene, with Floyd drifting from one subject to another, all the while Andy and Barney wanting him to get to the point: WHERE IS OTIS??? I'll see ya. Andy's birthday was last Thursday and GLOBE last week would have been printed at least a few days before being released... just a thought. >> FYI - This is quoted from the June 13th issue of the Globe - "Family and friends of Andy Griffith fear for the TV legend's life after a heart attack felled him just short of his 74th birthday. The ex-Matlock star was rushed by ambulance to an operating room and underwent quadruple-bypass surgery following the attack May 5th at his North Carolina Home". The article went on to say that he was taken to Sentara General Hospital in Norfolk VA for sugery and Cindi had asked for prayer. He's back home, keeping a low profile, walking in the yard every day but hasn't ventured into town yet. I don't usually buy the Globe but the only reason I did was because the story was on the front page - anytime I see the name Andy Griffith - I buy it. They were caught in the middle of a highway chase driving what appeared to be a first year's model of the Model T. What an adorable couple they made - her shouting at his driving and his big blue eyes all bugged out. Larry Storch (remember F Troop?) was the bumbling deputy who kept losing his motorcyle. Thanks in advance, Doug "Hog Winslow" Johnson That's from "The Rehabilitation of Otis." Andy and Barney are trying to figure out where Otis has gone, so they stop by the barber shop to see if Floyd has seen him. Floyd relates the story of the time he was helping Otis get home, and Otis fell down a well (he thought he was in quicksand). - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Jun 2000 13:36:54 GMT From: "Harriet Browder" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: It's the secret ingredient! Recorded by Andy on "Just as I Am" and by Don on "I Can't Stand Still." Don G's answer to this question ("Midnight Special") is actually the answer to a question I posted here a couple years ago: name the song that was recorded by Andy Griffith, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Buddy Holly. I had several right answers on that one. OK, you can take your buckets off now.
