Well now, I know I won't be the first to answer this, but it was at a
roadblock. Barney stopped her car and searched her and she said, "But Barney,
I'm your mother!" I'm guessing here, ...it was an early episode,...but was it
"The Manhunt"?

Here's an easy one - what song did both Andy and Detroit rockers Frijid Pink
do, and the latter had a hit with in 1970?

Subject: Unseen Characters
I must say I'm somewhat disappointed with you people. A very real and
noticeable character who was mentioned on TAGS and yet was never seen, was
the lovely, the talented, the classy, the all around Great American
LAURA LEE HOBBS! And yet not one person mentioned me! Where were your
buckets? And, Woe to those who hurt my
feelings. But I am part gypsy, and I lived in New Orleans long enough to
learn a few things about voodoo, so when your feet get hot, don't be too
surprised!
It's not that I'm sensitive--and I just HATE it when people call me
sensitive!--it's more like I demand my propers.
Also, has anybody mentioned Viola Slatt (I do love that name), or the two
little old ladies whose feet kept falling asleep and they tied up the phone
lines every Sunday afternoon? If not, I nominate them. How about
that "dark haired" widow woman who it seemed as if she had cheated on her
poor husband with the hired hand, and was now living shamelessly off
of his insurance money? And the guy who helped Thelma Lou glue hymn covers
back on? What about old man Kelsey? I can think of lots more, but I'm
afraid I'm already repeating others, and I'm just limiting my choices to
TAGS.
Laura Lee Hobbs, poor but proud!
Andy to Barney & Gomer: "There's a gold truck a-coming, and it's up to you,
and me, and Gomer, and Laura Lee Hobbs to receive it."

I didn't mean to steer anyone to Amazon for Aunt Bee's Cookbook. I just
thought the write up was so well written. I agree with Allan - ya'll get
your cookbook from Weaver's now, ya hear?
And on the subject of non-seen characters - what about all them relatives
Samatha Stevens had that she communicated with in the witches world? She was
always talking with somebody! And Jeanie's relatives. They're everywhere! I
recall Opie mentioned the trouble he was in with Miss Johnson and that he
needed "SPECIAL" flowers. What about the lady that Andy always had to borrow
a sewing machine from? And the neighbor who had the cat that might have
gotten to Opie's little birds. Boy, Mayberry is growing.......and what
about the fact that Mayberry is the county seat? Shouldn't there be more
goings on in the court house, like county business for one? One of my
favorite chapters in Ken's and Jim's book is the Goofs chapter.
Harriet, gotta go steal some chickens to whatnot with

Howdy to you and yours!
About Barney's Mom....I remember he gave her a ticket,
but the episode is eluding me...was it the time Barn
locked up the entire town?
And Dixon, I sure miss "Pete and Gladys" and
"December Bride"! (you are too good!)

My hat is off to your sir. It was indeed the Coopers. As I recall, she
was wearing a gorilla suit. (NO, I have not been sipping Colonel Harvey's
elixir.) They may have been headed to a costume party or something. I am
concerned about you however. Following my rambling question as you did and
coming up with the correct answer.
And wasn't that episode two, The Manhunt, when we see Barney frisking his
own mother? Makes you wonder why people were surprised when he ticketed
the governor doesn't it. I dropped my mother once, but that's another
story.
Larry
You know how it makes you feel seeing your mother on the roof!

Subject: "No Time for Sergeants" & Betty Lynn
I recently rewatched "No Time for Sergeants" (the movie version), which I
have on video. The whole theme is so similar to "Gomer Pyle USMC" that the
TV show was obviously taken from the earlier movie. Was Andy Griffith
involved creatively with both? I just wondered about the behind-the-scenes
connection between "Gomer" and "Sergeants." Can anyone provide this
information. Just curious!
Also, since we've had some trivia questions lately, I thought I'd add my
own. In what movie did Betty Lynn play 17-year-old Barbara "Boo" Brinker, a
young woman who "blossoms" and marries her sister's former fiance?

Subject: Gomer Pyle TV Ratings
TV ratings do seem to me to be somewhat hard to understand nowadays. It must
be the combat scenes in some of the episodes that give The Gomer Pyle USMC
the TV-PG rating. I'll still take the Classic TV shows anyday. I've noticed
with some shows that different networks give the same show a different
rating. Could it be the shows are edited differently or what? Can anyone
explain this? Why the difference?
Happy motoring,
David
