In what movie did Betty Lynn play 17-year-old Barbara "Boo" Brinker, a young woman who "blossoms" and marries her sister's former fiance?> The answer is June Bride. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jun 2000 16:08:12 -0500 From: David Millard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Ohio Clubs Unite!! I'm repeating a message I sent earlier in the week. To any clubs in the state of Ohio, if you'd be interested in trying to organize some sort of event with other clubs, then e-mail me at the address to follow. I think working together we could do something BIG!! E-mail at: [EMAIL PROTECTED], were excited, cause this Tuesday, June 13th we've got Andy's boyhood home on Haymore St. in Mt. Airy rented for the night......can't wait to get there.......Lotsa Luck to You & Yours........Dave & Pattie. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 16:27:34 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #175 In a message dated 6/8/00 12:45:34 PM Pacific Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: << TV ratings do seem to me to be somewhat hard to understand nowadays. It must be the combat scenes in some of the episodes that give The Gomer Pyle USMC the TV-PG rating. I'll still take the Classic TV shows anyday. I've noticed with some shows that different networks give the same show a different rating. Could it be the shows are edited differently or what? Can anyone explain this? Why the difference? >> Well, I know with Nick at Nite, for awhile they gave EVERYTHING a TV-G rating until All in the Family and The Jeffersons came on, then they wised up. As for other shows, sometimes the shows are rated by actual episode, as Gomer Pyle USMC is. And finally there are some shows that could go either TV-G or TV-PG...and there really isn't much difference until you get into the letters like "D, V, L, S, and N". - -Josh ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 13:37:08 -0700 (PDT) From: bill shaw <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #173 In reply to the question about Floyd saying " You fall down a well, You're wet. It comes from the episode where Otis gets arrested for and threatens not to return to the Mayberry jail. Andy and Barney go to Floyd to ask if he's seen Otis. This is one of my favorite pieces by Floyd. Second is the line " If you want to get a good suit, you got to go the Mt. Pilot." Also, while I'm here, in my recent travels, I got to see some TV Land episodes ( Our cable company is pretty sorry) and I saw the two episodes where Barney returns to find Thelma Lou married then in the next meets Warren Ferguson. Goober was especially good in the second episode in dealing with Barney and his fuel pump. Just catching up Buzz Fluehart Goober to Barney's fuel pump, " I'm sorry but we're dealing with a crazy man." - - __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but I figure I'll mention it. Did anyone know an Andy Griffith Show display has been unveiled at the Movieland Wax Museum in Buena Park, California? I was searching for wax museums on Yahoo and found this. The author says the figures of Don and Jim Nabors have horrible likenesses. Does anyone know where we can see photos of these? Thanks. - -Josh ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jun 2000 17:17:03 -0500 From: betsy baugh <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: TV Ratings and Keronsene Pickles I find it interesting that Gomer Pyle is PG and so is "Dragnet" and "1 Adam 12". You very rarely see any guns on either show but I guess it is because they deal with police issues. My children love the theme music to these shows and on Andy Griffith, Opie is my 2 year old's favorite. Does the cookbook have Aunt Bea's recipe for "Kerosene Pickles?" Just wondering - Andy, Barney, and Opie just loved them -as I recall :) Betsy Baugh Napoleon, IN ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 19:00:46 -0400 (EDT) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: County seats Harriet the chicken thief wrote: >and what about the fact that Mayberry is the >county seat? Shouldn't there be more goings >on in the court house, like county business for >one? I am from a small town in WV called Spencer, which was the county seat of Roane County. I would say that we had roughly the same population as Mayberry and the same assortment of businesses. The courthouse offices were upstairs from the sheriff's office too. I remember going with my daddy to get new car tags and licenses and thought how quiet and solemn the upstairs hallway was. Remeber, Howard Sprauge was the COUNTY clerk and he seemed to do everything from dog tags to bike licenses to property taxes. I just don't think that a small county courthouse was that busy in those days ~misspoovey~ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jun 2000 18:12:07 CDT From: "DEBORAH DUBOSE" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Mentioned, but Unseen Granted, somebody may have already mentioned this one, but I don't remember it, so here goes. Like the color episode this morning where Barney comes back for the school reunion. Does any one remember the car make and year????? Well, it was a 1928 Porter. Just FYI. Also, Jerry Van Dyke made some appearances on Dick Van Dyke as Stacy, Rob's brother. In the early 90's, Dick said in an interview that Jerry had to audition for the part of Rob's brother and ALMOST didn't get the part. It's amazing that Dick's brother had to audition to play Dick's brother and almost didn't get to be Dick's brother!!! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 22:17:50 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #174 I think if you're going to name people who are discussed but never seen, you have to eliminate people who live somewhere away from the show. The entire M*A*S*H crew had family in the states so that doesn't count. Norm's wife Vera is a good example. Another is Lars on MTM. But if you want to think of M*A*S*H, what about Sparky. Also on Home Improvement, how about Al's Mom? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 22:20:42 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #174 We see Barney's mother on the Check Point Chickie episode. I was watching "Leave it to Beaver" tonight... the boys were getting a haircut with Eddie and lo and behold, who is snippin' hair? None other than our own Floyd!!! Except he was in Mayfield instead of Mayberry and Ward called him ANDY!!! The way I figure it, "Andy" witnessed a crime and had to testify in court and then had his identity changed for his own safety. I read somewhere that a lot of Mafia 'hits' occur in barber chairs because the victim is in a prone position with a hot towel around their heads. So one day "Andy" was working alone (it was a 2 chair shop) when a guy in a double breasted suit came in and "gave it" to the guy in the chair! So after he testified, the government sent him to Mayberry to practice his chosen trade- barbering. Kinda explains a few things... like how Floyd the barber looked one way then his face totally changed. I figure that the first Floyd was also in the program and had to be moved for some reason, so "Andy from Mayfield" just slipped into his place! Also explains what happened to Floyd's son (the one who played the horn). The boy was in the program too; he got sent to Mayberry along with "Andy" and they were told to act like father and son. But the young man couldn't stand Floyd's constant chatter about dingo dogs and Herbert Hoover, so he left, deciding to take his chances on his own! Of course, none of this would have happened had Floyd been originally from Mayberry; for as Barney says "We defy the Mafia!!!"
