In references to real or put on southern accents. I am from WV and had a very twang-y hillbilly accent as a child. It is barely noticable now, but I can turn it back on if I want to, or if I'm around someone with a simalar accent, it turns itself back on! Don Knotts is from the coal-mining, hillbilly part of WV, so I'm sure he had no problem turning on the twang! ~the groovy misspoovey~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 19:12:27 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Andy Bear ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 19:23:42 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Andy Griffith/Mayberry USA Bear Hey To All! Jeremy over on Miss Crumps Blackboard posted an offer for an official Andy Griffith Bear that is supposed to be a first in a series of Mayberry USA Bears. I spent three hours this afternoon trying to locate the bear. I am hoping it is okay with Allan, to print here what I have found. This bear WILL be the first and offered through the Ashton Drake Company (they do dolls and bears). The bear won't be released until this coming October but you can call the Ashton Drake Company at 800-634-5164 and pre-order a bear upon release with your credit card. The Ashton Drake people are honorable folks and their things become highly collectible. If you call, just have the operator look it up by the Andy Griffith Bear/Mayberry USA series. I think there is a limited number so if you reserve one then you'll be assured to get one. I can't wait to see mine in October! For those wanting to see the picture of it, Jeremy has it on the Miss Crump Blackboard! Sorry I don't have his clipping nor do I have a scanner yet! Now Back To My Pickle Stash! After all he did buy him a new car. Wasn't that nice? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 21:23:08 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Barney's Bully Allan Melvin played Fred Plummer. He was the bully that dumped trash in the street and Barney gave him a $4 ticket and he was going to beat him up. Andy arranged for Barney's judo instructor to wear Barney's suit and beat him senseless. That was Allan Melvi. He also played a convict in 2 different episodes, one of the farmers who threatened Barney, and also the recruiting sergeant who tried to get Ernest T. Bass in the Army. He went on to play Sgt. Hacker on Gomer Pyle, Sam the Butcher on "The Brady Bunch" and then Barney Hefner on "All In The Family". ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 21:29:02 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: The squadcar On the later color episodes (which I'm not too crazy about) Andy was sick once and Goober took over the squad car. He went power crazy and gave the job to Emmet, who wrecked the squad car. So did cousin Virgil. Opie's friend Trey went for a ride, and Andy's uncle Ollie commandered it to go fishing. Also, a lawyer named Roger was a temporary deputy and he drove the squad car. AND, do you know what else he did____HE MESSED UP THE BULLETIN BOARD!!!!!!!!!!! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 21:32:48 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: calvaryagog Regarding the tap tap and 25 and 25. That was the episode when Ernest T. Bass wanted to get his diploma so he could impress "Romena". He was adding and he added 2 plus 2. He tapped his foot four times and said "4". Then he said"25 plus 25" and did a tap dance and said "50!". Am I right?????????? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 21:40:09 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Mayberry Rap About 10 years ago there was a rap song (usually I hate rap) about TAGS. Whoever did the song did their homework. It had voices like Andy, Floyd, Aunt Bee, and Barney. It was a hoot! I don't remember the whole song, but the first verse went like this: Well, if it's south you're bound, I'll tell you 'bout a town that you prob'ly will not see. 'Cause it's kind of a fable and it's only on cable and they call it May-ber-reee! Does anybody have a copy or more information on it???? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 21:53:31 -0400 From: "den57" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: obtuse teenagers While channel surfing with my 13 year old son the other day I ran across an old Abbott and Costello show. I asked my son if he had ever seen them before. He said, "Mom, you know I don't watch anything that's black and white except for Andy Griffith." Boy did that make me smile. He really does like the show (especially the ones with Ernest T. Bass) but boy would he get obtuse if you mentioned that in front of his friends. Any body else have obtuse teenagers too? Just wondering. I can recall seeing Gomer in the squad car on the episode where the gold truck comes through...also, Daphne and Skippy, aka the Fun Girls, Thelma Lou, Helen, Opie, the Man in a Hurry, and what about all those Dogs, Dogs, Dogs?!!! That was just off the top of my head....Let me go slick down so I will look good when I get my diploma! Abyssinia! Knotts Hey Mayberry Friends, The question below was posed to me by a friend from a bluegrass mailing list. Admittedly, the TAGS performers that I most often try keep up with are The Dillards, so I am hoping that some of you can help me out in answering Jarrod's question. Thank you in advance. Jim Hady From: "Wyatt Culberson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <<Jim, I have a question about Don Knotts maybe you can help me with. The rumour was, when I was in the Corps, that Don Knotts had been a Marine Drill Instructor at one time. Any truth to that? (There was a similar rumour about Mr. Rogers, but that one was phoney. It included a large tattoo on his shoulder covered up by a sweater.) W. Jarrod Culberson "Faced with the unprecedented, in an environment that's unstable, many people say, 'It can't be done.' Hello there! I am not a "trained noticer" but a "noticer in training". So, bear with me if I don't get this right.....but I do remember Opie's friend, Trey, going on "Lake patrol" with Andy. I'm still trying to remember a few more....I just want to welcome all the newcomers, heck, I can remember all the talk around the bulletin board when we were nearing the 1,000th member. Anderson) Subject: Luke Comstock Episode Two things I have always wondered about in the episode with Luke Comstock. First, when Andy went to get Fluffy out of the tree, Barney offered Andy his gun in case he needed it against Luke. My question is: "What good would that gun have been if there aren't any bullets in it?" Also Andy accepted a shotgun as a gift from Luke. My second question is: "Why would Andy accept a gun from a convicted felon as a gift when it is illegal for a convicted felon to posess a gun?" Just something to think about. Since I haven't been there, a friend of mine on a 1970s nostalgia newsgroup sent me a couple of links to pictures from atop the *real* Mt. Pilot! Here they are... http://www.scenicoverlook.com/pix1f.jpg Here's the website to the park: http://ils.unc.edu/parkproject/pimo.html Nope, no pix of Barney and Juanita parked in the patrol car or anything! So, >my little brother and I would see the shows over >and over again, five >days a week as long as we were out of school. >Except when my stupid Cousin Grace visited and she hated Andy and Barney. I >didn't just break Rule No. 2, my stupid cousin did. And it's all right if >I call her stupid because she's MY cousin--she's ugly, too. My mother had >this rule that when we had company we had to >do what they wanted, but when >little brother and I were the company WE had to do what our HOST wanted. >Now I ask you, was that fair? Helloooooo dolllllll....... Talk about spooky-- it sounds like we had similar childhoods only I was age 5-6-7 watching "repeats" during the day in Pennsylvania. I also remember it being called Andy of Mayberry, and at the half way point of commercial break, they would show Barney's hat and/or gun belt and announce the sponsors of the show. My mother had the same rules as well regarding host/company ...are you sure we aren't related.. ; ) If memory serves me correctly, wasn't Aneta Corsaut in the 1958 movie The Creature of the Black Lagoon???
