Where's the diner located? Do they have pork chop sandwiches? Is Juanita
there? Sorry to ask so many questions but I need to know all this stuff so I
can evaluate you properly and see if you pass muster.

Hey To All!
Apology accepted Bob...don't worry about it a all! We just wanted to
politely explain why we do what we do! Sit back, have some lemonade and

TAGS fans,

Mayberry does seem to have a large downtown for its size, but there
may be some clues as to why within the show. Remember when Opie sort of
ran away and was almost injured playing by a mine? Perhaps at sometime in
the past--say pre-WWII--Mayberry had a thriving mining business which later
dried up. The population may have taken a severe dip at that point but
maybe the businesses survived because it was still the county seat and this
was before the days of the big malls and whatnot. I lived in Oklahoma for
a while and there were several little towns with downtowns as big as
Mayberry's that were left over from the oil boom days but were now
servicing towns of 5-10,000. Depending on whether there are other towns
nearby, some of those downtowns are still "going concerns" while others are
mostly boarded up.

I am sooooo excited! My hubby just gave me a great "big 5-0"
birthday present: An album in mint condition of The andy Griffith Show ("songs,
Themes and laughs") it says. It is even mono phonic, it is that old. Any body
know if there were are many still out there, item T1611? The cover has Andy
sitting at his desk, with his feet on top his desk, with "those" boots on,
smiling.
 I am soooo excited!!!!

General Foods was actually the sponsor...interesting, when you
consider that GF has since been bought out by Phillip Morris,
which also owns Miller Beer...]

Dixon, interesting. The case does say General Mills. Iguess Columbia house
made a mistake.

A quick comment and then a question:
Pauline, that little town in Mississippi you live in, it wouldn't be near
Mize would it? That's where I'm from and I'm heading that way.
Now, first of all the air conditioner for the part of the house that has
Otis Taylor's and my bedroom suite is broken (one reason we're heading
for cooler pastures) so I'm not in the best mood anyway, but I would LIKE TO
KNOW why other people can ask a question and receive answers for
weeks and weeks--sometimes Allen even has to ask people nicely to stop
writing in their answers--but when good ol' Laura Lee writes in one simple
question, NOBODY, and I do mean NOBODY, gives a hoot. I asked one little
question, the first one I have asked in years, and I have received no
satisfaction. People, I'm hot here!
My question: What did Big Maude (aka Ralph Henderson) say to Floyd and
Sally on their way out the door to buy food? It sounded like ackra backra
(maybe it was "out the back way," but they were going out the front door)
unless she meant drive out the back roads perhaps, but that
wouldn't make any sense. This has bothered me for years. Surely
someone knows.

Paul, I don't know what happened with that. I sent 2 messages. One came
out normal and the other one came out gobbledy goop. Sorry. BTW, it was a
great episode. Hope you say it.

Got a big kick out of an article in The St. Petersburg Times today regarding
a new offering at Busch Gardens. Click here:

http://www.sptimes.com/News/062300/Business/Out_of_the_ordinary.shtml

for a great picture of giraffes being very selfish and greedy - it shows
them crowding a safari truck. The aricle goes on to say that a few crispy
leaves from a visitor will get kisses. Now if that ain't a trade off I
don't know what is.

Ya'll enjoy Meadowview and watch out for whatnots!!!

Hi, fellow citizens of Mayberry:
Brenda & I have just returned from a month of exploration in Prague
(Czech Republic), Germany, and Austria. No, I know this is not the Travel
Channel, so I will spare you our trip details with one exception . . . . . .
. . :
During our overseas travels, we always stay in quaint bed & breakfast
inns or homes where we are closer to the "local color." A few days ago while
staying in a wonderful zimmer in fabulous Salzburg, Austria, we noticed that
the landlady had tacked a small sign to the bathroom wall, asking her renters
to refrain from washing laundry in the bathroom. Well, after several treks
across Europe, we have perfected this art (science?) of hand-laundering and
decided, with no alternative, to wash a few things anyway.
Feeling a little rebellious and naughty while washing a few
unmentionables, out of my mouth popped this unplanned comment: "Gosh, I
feel just like Barney cooking chili in Mrs. Mendlebright's apartment!" I
guess it just goes to show -- you can take the boy out of Mayberry, but you
can't take Mayberry out of the boy -- even thousands of miles away on another
continent! Larry G.
