I was watching one of my Andy tapes the other day. In the episode Barney was
turning in his uniform because he was going to quit. When he gave back his
whistle he told Andy he had replaced the pea in it.
My question: How can you replace a pea in a whistle without breaking
the whistle?

Hey folks,
Just finished with the fine people from Mayberry and Gomer Pyle USMC in
Kingsport last night and they were indeed fantastic. I am so blessed to get
to work with them. Someone mentioned the events in Tennessee and didn't
seem to know about the Tribute to Mayberry on August 7 in Pigeon Forge, TN.
The Dillards will be there and Charlene along with Betty Lynn and James
Best. It sounds like it will be another great time for those who attend. I
know I will be there. If you want info on it you can call 800-792-4308.
Thanks,
David L. Browning

I brought up Allen Melvin recently on an email list devoted to classic TV. I
made out a trivia quiz in which I asked everyone to identify him by his two
best known roles (Sam the Butcher and Barney Hefner). Then I threw in this
stumper: What product did he sell on TV in the late 1970s? (I won't make
you wait for the answer...it was Liquid Plumr.)

Hey to Everybody:
Watched one of my favorites - Barney's First Car last nite. Re: the
new cuts in the TV Land episodes - now I'm not complaining, just
noticing, but they sure put a weird snip on this one. They jump right
from Barney reading about the car in the newspaper (Good Lord Willing,
you'll call MP-...) to (the next day?) Barney walking down the
driveway to meet ole Hubcaps Lesch pulling up in her late husbands
machine. =20
Omitted, of course, was the whole scene with Andy and Barney a settin'
on the porch referencing Barney's last big purchase - a septic tank
for his parents. This is one of my fave-o-rite scenes - so I was
forced to recite it to myself - both parts, mind you. (hold the book
on me - once I learn something, I've got it!)
Anyway, the payoff for the snippage was the epilogue - which is also
classic Barney. Another old widow shows up to sell Barney a low
mileage 1959 see-dann and Barn (once bitten, twice shy) nearly takes
her head off before he finds out she is the real article.

Hey Gang,
Just a quick note to say thanks to all of our Mayberry friends who made the
trek to Kingsport for Mayberry at MeadowView 3.
We had a great time. The show was awesome, but the best part was seeing so
many old friends and making so many new ones. That is what it is all about.
It has been fun.
Thanks again,
Gary at MeadowView

the back. Since I have a t-shirt from a few years ago, I'm all set for any
season. Year round Mayberry....sounds good to me. Thanks for all your
work, Allan!

I don't think that's very nice. Mama's Family happens to be one of my
favorite shows. Isn't it that no one is supposed to be down on anyone else

Subject: Mirrored Image in Barney's New Car
i sat down last night to watch TAGS on TV Land. I saw that it was "Barney's
New Car." I called my son down to watch it. We think it's hilarious when
everybody smells gas. Barney says,"Of course you smell gas! What do you think
this car runs on, coal?" It's a great episode (all the B & W's are). But I
noticed something I'd never seen before. After Barney (over)pays Mrs. Lesh
for the car and she walks away to have Allan Melvin pick her up., they do a
quick pan of Barney and Andy and it's a reverse image. You can tell by the
way Barney's standing and the part on Andy's hair. Is that common in the TV
industry Allan?

Subject: my TAGS 33 -1/3 album w/complete theme songs
My birthday present of a 33-1/3 rpm record album TAGS songs, themes and
laughs with original theme songs/tracks has the following on it: side one:
the Andy Griffith theme; Jack the Giant Killer;
Flop Eared Mule ; Ellie's theme; Sourwood Mountain; the Man Hunt;
SIDE 2 :the Fishin' Hole; Aunt Bee; The New River Train; Mayberry march;
Cindy; Barney's hoe down;
The back has the b & w photos of Andy and Opie with fishin' poles. The back
writes that "Andy sings four authentic blue grass songs with Roland White and
the Country Boys". Also, "complete instrumentals tracks included in complete
form for the first time", it says. Also, during Andy's Jack the giant killer
monologue, it states that Hagen's original score (with 30 piece symphony) is
in the background. It states that there are 2 versions of the show's musical
theme on it: the original heard every week, and the other is a new vocal
treatment
singing The Fishin Hole, written by actor Everett Sloane. It has complete
tracks
of these themes: Ellie's theme, Aunt Bee, Mayberry march and Barney's hoe down.
I am soooooo excited!

Bob,
I don't think people are pointing out mistakes - they
are pointing out things that have changed in the
episodes that had not been noticed in viewing the show
a time or two.=20
It really is quite 'entertaining' to test your skills
of observation!
I quite often watch episodes not strictly for
enjoyment, but to study the skills of Don Knotts
portraying Barney, or the child acting skills of Ron
Howard.
I would suggest anyone try to do that and watch NOT
the show, but the actors doing their job - you will
walk away completely amazed at the talent that was
assenbled for the show!
I'm sure everyone writing into the digest loves the
show for many reasons, including the entertainment
value, and I never take the 'mistakes' being pointed
out as negative, rather fun bits of trivia!

No complete set of TAGS episodes has ever been produced. Several companies
have issued TAGS videos over the years; by far the best are the ones
currently being sold by Columbia House. They are not cheap ($20 for four
episodes) but they are worth every penny. There are ten tapes available
(you can save money on shipping by having them delivered all at once).
If enough fans ask for it, perhaps Columbia House will issue all 249
episodes. They did it for Star Trek - why not TAGS? I'd like to encourage
everyone to fill out their online survey:

(if the link does not work, just go to columbiahouse.com and click on
"classic TV", then go to the survey)
When you come to line 11, be sure to tell them you'd like to see the
COMPLETE series in its entirety, all 249 episodes.

Paul

I want to thank Gary Wedemeyer and everybody else who was responsible

loved each and every one of them. That sure was a great show last night.
It is sad to think that last night was the final one.
