That's the right episode, but I believe somebody else said it first (it was
some feller from the Old Country). He also penned the immortal words, "What
light by yonder winder shines?" and "You can change the name of a rose, but
you cain't do nuthin' about the smell."

I'd like to go see this show; if anyone else in the chapter plans to attend,
maybe some of us could get together. As Barney once said, "it's so much
more fun with a group."

Did anyone see the second episode of Gomer Pyle today? Mrs. Lesch was on
and
she was a pick pocket this time. Trying to get Gomer's $1600.00 that he
was going to use
to buy a filling station with Goober. (not walley's) Mr. Miner was on
the bus Gomer was on too.....he was a crook . Then the Sherrif's car
looked an awful lot like Andy's .
This morning on TAGS Barney was on again. I love the way Andy takes up
for Barney.
Andy really is a model of what a true friend should be. I bet if we were
to put a list together
of all of the times Andy helped Barney out of a jam and made him look
good we'd have quite a list!!

Have a Mayberry Day!

Actually, Mabel Albertson who played Howard's mother never played Rob
Petrie's mother on The Dick Van Dyke Show but there are many Mayberry
connections to The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Rob Petrie's mother was played by two different actresses who appeared in an
episode of TAGS. In the episode "Empress Carlotta's Necklace," his mother
was played by Carol Veasie who played one of the women from the historical
society in "A Plaque for Mayberry." In the episodes "What's in a Middle
Name?" "The Plots Thicken," "Pink Pills and Purple Parents," and "The Curse
of the Petrie People" his mother was played by Isabelle Randolph who played
the other historical society woman in "A Plaque for Mayberry."

Rob Petrie's father was played by three different actors. Two of them
appeared on TAGS. In the episode "Empress Carlotta's Necklace," his father
was played by Will Wright (a.k.a. Ben Weaver). In the episodes "What's in a
Middle Name?" and "The Plots Thicken," his father was played by J. Pat
O'Malley (a.k.a. Mr. Fields in "Up in Barney's Room").

Other Mayberry actors who appeared on The Dick Van Dyke Show are Doris Packer
(Mrs. Wiley in "My Fair Ernest T. Bass"), Everett Sloane (Jubal Foster in
"Keeper of the Flame"), Jackie Joseph (Ramona in "My Fair Ernest T. Bass"),
Allan Melvin (who appeared in many TAGS episodes), Milton Frome and Herbie
Faye (the two counterfeiters in "Aunt Bee Takes a Job") and Johnny Silver
(the Hanson brother who hid in the trunk in "The Great Filling Station
Robbery").

That actress must have been typecast, because she was the same type of
overbearing, overprotective mother to an only son in Bewtiched. >>

In real life, Mabel Albertson was the mother in law of actress Cloris
Leachman and sister of the late Jack Albertson. She died in 1979, I believe,
of Alzheimers disease.

This is from a Trekie friend:

All of this is true. Don't forget that, in the late 60's, budgets on TV
shows were incredibly tight, Star Trek's budget was only about $100,000 per
episode, which sounds like a lot of money, but when you add things
up(Leonard Nimoy's fake ears, William Shatner's bar bills, etc.) they had to
scratch and claw on just about every aspect of the show. One of the money
saving things they did was to reuse sets that were already standing on the
Paramount lot, one of which was the town of Mayberry. This is why every
single episode of Star Trek Voyager (the current Star Trek show) at one
point or another ends up with our heroes spelunking through the same cave
week in and week out.

I hear that, on the original Star Trek, they even threw a sheet over Aunt
Bee one time and she played a boulder on a Star Trek episode. I can't back
that one up, though...

So besides the stages - we have a boulder as a TAGS link! That's a butte!

There seems to be a lot of cut scenes on TV Land. While I absolutely LOVE
the epilogues, I sure wish that other great scenes did not have to give
their lives for the privilege of seeing them! (they ARE like seeing a whole
new show)

Why, an entire chorus of "No Account Mule" was omitted from this week's
viewing of "Gomer and the Houseguest". And I just adore the way he flings
the covers back on the bed! Irritates the heck out of Andy, that's for
sure.

I wanted to write and see if anyone would be willing to record this episode
for me. Seeing as how I can't get TV Land, I would greatly appreciate it.
I would pay for the tape and shipping. If anyone is willing to do this for
me let me know at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks

Subject: Countess??

In the episode where Barney buys some Gypsy fortune telling stuff,
the name of the spirit invoked was "Countess Van Telecki". Now,
"Countess" is a feminine term, but Barney refers to the spirit as a
"He"! Is this a mistake, or have I been celebrating too much with the
sisters' elixer?
I'm new to the group, it's great to see that I'm not the only Andy
Fanatic around!

bridge???? I thought I'd seen all of the shows being a lifelong HUGE fan but
this doesnt ring a bell.

If you have ever been to the Andy Griffith Museum at the Mount Airy Visitors
Center on a weekend, you have met the lady who has made a difference to so
many lives for the past 7 years. Bertie McCoy was their answer to Aunt Bee
(except when the tour buses were late and then she was "Killer Bee").

Miss Bertie has moved to Sparta, WI to work with her son at the Cistercian
Abbey (www.monksonline.org), and will be dearly missed in Mount Airy.
Visitors will still get the same friendly welcome when they visit, but life
at the Visitors Center will not be the same without her, as she was
one-of-a-kind. Anyone who knows Bertie will agree to that.
