A wonderful lady just retired from the Mount Airy Visitors Center by the
name of Bertie McCoy. Anyone visiting on the weekends for the last seven
years had the pleasure of meeting "our" answer to Aunt Bee. We could call
her that until she decided that she would turn into "Killer Bee"! Actually,
the only time she would threaten to turn into Killer Bee would be on days
where I had scheduled too many tour buses and personal attention was at a
premium. Miss Bertie loved working weekends as she lived alone here in
Mount Airy and our visitors were her family. Many of her "family" would
return often to sample her warm humor and quick wit. She leaves a legacy and
an empty place in our hearts that will only be reserved for her!!
Anyone wishing to contact her can reach her at her only son's place of
residence in Sparta, Wisconsin:

Don't forget the episode where Otis is given his plaque (he didn't use
toothpast with tartar control) because his ancestor burned a bridge and
helped win a battle in the revolutionary war.

To Bob Scheib, JC and Allan: Sorry I had to miss the Rendezvous in Covington
this past weekend. I hate it when a Mayberry event is so close and I can't
make it. My job at the paper keeps me busy and there's lots going on right
now. I did talk to the Creature Man, a.k.a. Mike Creech, by email today and
he was there, but I missed seeing you all.
Just a note to those of you who search eBay or other auction sites for
Mayberry stuff. Recently, I learned if you typed it different ways,
different items came up. Like The Andy Griffth Show, Andy Griffith,
Mayberry, Don Knotts.... Well you get the idea. While typing in Mayberry, I
learned the Creature Man has his Mayberry Hawthone Village up for sale. How
could you do it Mikey. Anyway, I've already been out bid on one item and I'm
sure my other bid won't hold either. Because of car trouble (And Mrs. Lesh
wasn't even around) I won't be able to bid high this time. But for those of
you interested. You might want to visit eBay.
That's it for this time. The From Miracle Salve to Kerosene Cucumber
Society of TAGSRWC is still alive and kickin' in Celina, Ohio. Don't take
any wooden nickels. Skippy! P. S. (I don't get TV Land but I'm off to watch
Andy on Nick At Nick! )

I know this cabbage has already had more than one chewing, but it's been
a real treat to see all of the almost-forgotten epilogues again. It's
surprising how often they change the whole general "feel" of the
episode. For instance, one of my favorites is when Aunt Bee kisses Briscoe
flush on the jaw & thanks him for his interest in her.Come to think of
it,according to romantic etiquette among some Mayberry famlies, doesn't
that mean they're engaged?

Sure did hate to hear that Walter Matthau had died Saturday, even though
I knew he was in bad health. I've enjoyed his comedic and serious roles
over the years. I watched the video of The Fortune Cookie, the first
movie he and Jack Lemmon made together, yesterday in his memory. Lo and
behold who should appear but our beloved Floyd from TAGS. Sneaky
lawyer Walter was trying to talk Floyd into joining in a fraudulent
lawsuit. Mary Grace in Georgia

I think Aunt Bee's hair was down when she dropped the flower pot on Otis'
head when he and Gomer were working under-cover during the Luke Comstock
caper. Does that count?

I also remember when Aunt Bee's hair was down during the Carter and the
Wakefield episode. The entire family is awakened when the young people want
to get married, and Aunt Bee comes down the stairs with her hair down.
Thanks,

Her hair is down in the episode where Gomer becomes the Taylors'
houseguest. She comes downstairs after Gomer tries to fix the vacuum
cleaner.

Hi......I caught the tail end of Knight Rider this morning on TV Land. Who do
you think I saw? Malcolm Merriweather was getting into a very fancy car. He
must have traded in his bicycle for it. Gee, I'd like a chance to do that too
........Hmmmm, give'em a bike and they give me a sports car. My kind of deal.

Every TAGS episode has an epilogue. In this one, Aunt Bee comes home, takes
a quick look at Andy, and declares that he doesn't look well. She quickly
determines that while she was away, he didn't have enough to eat. She heads
to the kitchen, announcing that she's going to prepare some -- you guessed
it!

You can get the complete schedule at www.tvland.com (also at
www.nick-at-nite.com). It even tells you which episodes will air, which is
great if you're trying to get them all on tape. They only list one week at
a time, so we'll have to wait and see if Mayberry RFD will be on again next
week.

With TV Land now airing episodes of Mayberry R.F.D., you may want to chec=

a detailed episode guide for all 78 episodes, as well as, complete biogra=

In response to the question about Aunt Bee's hair... in "A Feud is a
Feud"
when Josh and Hannah come to the justice of the peace in the middle of
the night,
Aunt Bee has her hair down. This is also the episode in which Andy
wears a night
cap because "that's what people expect when they come to see the justice
of the
peace in the middle of the night."

Subject: WHEN was that wedding actually on?
WE read in last week's newsletter that the wedding was to be Monday, July 3,
at 10 pm eastern time. We set our vcr for that time slot; when previewing it
last night, after we returned home, we could NOT find a wedding anywhere on
that tape. Was it in the first scenes? We fastforwarded over that. Never COULD
find the wedding while previewing that tape. I, we are upset. When actually
W A S the wedding of Andy and Miss Crump? thanks for any info on this
one, folks.

I remember one episode where I believe Aunt Beas hair is down, and that is
when Gomer moves in and makes a pest of hisself all night. He was trying to
fix the vacuum and Andy goes down first, then Opie and Aunt Bea appear, and I
seem to remember seeing her with her long hair over her shoulders at that
time.
