Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #219 Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #219 Hooray! we found the wedding on our tape What Were They Thinking? What's Your Hurry Episode NOTE FROM WBMUTBB HQ Andy's wedding ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 4 Jul 2000 16:56:36 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Walter Matthau I was sorry to hear of the passing of Walter Matthau. He and Andy were friendly acquaintances also. In fact, they were in two movies (at least) together. One was " "Onion Head". They were both cooks in the Navy. The other was "A Face in the Crowd". Both were balancing the fence of stardom at that time. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Jul 2000 17:36:01 -0400 From: "Parks, Jim" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Mayberry Union High Reunion Episode Great fun just sittin' back and reading the digest on the 4th. I just watched the color episode of the Mayberry High School Reunion where "Old Thel" didn't show up with her new husband until 10:30 PM. I thought this was kind of unusual for a scheduled event in Mayberry. Didn't they roll up the city sidewalks at sundown? I just don't remember any other late night events that were scheduled in Mayberry. Now don't anyone count Barney and Mrs. Mendlebright sitting on the front porch drinking "mullberry squeezins", or Andy and Barney at the city dump reading the last issue of Opie's newspaper. I also know Andy and Barney tried to dig up the Darlings incantation late at night. None of these were scheduled events. If they found a character they liked, they used them for several spots since after one episode, they sort of had a "feel" for Mayberry and the south. >> Hey To All! I keep hearing TAGS and DVD used together but I have a question please....Where are they? I have looked in my media catalogs, I have looked in my media stores (media play and best buy) but I have yet to see a TAGS on DVD. My computer (both the desktop and the laptop) have DVD drives and I would love to check these out. So, can someone please tell me where to look for these? Are they out yet? Counting the pickles from the holiday supply! Sandi ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Jul 2000 18:02:08 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Epilogues..... In a message dated 7/4/00 4:15:34 PM Central Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: << Well, now Do They? The reason I ask is what about the band concert episode? >> Yes, they do. The versions of several of the episodes that have been shown for years include the epilogues but have the extra minutes cut out in other places. In the episode you mention, there is a LOT of the band rehearsal that is cut along with some other parts. This was done instead of cutting the epilogue because whoever did the cutting felt it was better that way. If you ever see the uncut version of "Back to Nature" you'll see a very funny opening scene that has been cut for years but you won't see anything new at the end because the epilogue has always been shown in the cut, syndicated versions. The ending of "Andy Forecloses" that we have seen for years (Andy and Mr. Weaver going fishing) is PART of the epilogue to that episode. Yes, they DO all have epilogues and they DO all have a few minutes that have been cut for extra commercials, it's just not always the epilogue that has been cut. There's less than six months to go before the beginning of the the 21st Century. (the REAL New Millennium). Where are all the parties going to be held? We should try to get as many group members together as possible for the festivities. Today's fireworks got me to thinking about it, and now, with less than six months to go, we should start making plans for the festivities. We had previewed the tape and saw some things, like Aunt Bee being afraid of the cow, etc., but, when ever we would re-wind the tape and stop/play sections....why...we kept passing right over that "too-short" of a wedding scene. Barney acted like he did in the shakiest gun in the west movie! And that epilogue!!!oh, me, oh my!! We know that Barney and Andy were the best of friends...but, on the honeymoon????? that blew us away! This time it was Andy's fault for NOT standing up to Barney just this once and saying, "NO!, absolutely not!!". Thanks for all your help in telling us where to find the wedding scenes on our tape. From now on, when ever we are looking for something on tape, no skipping around; we are going to play it from start to where we find it.! thanks, again. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Jul 2000 20:12:22 -0400 (EDT) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: What Were They Thinking? Good subject, LauraLee! The grand-daddy of all "What Were They Thinking" examples is the "What's Your Hurry?" episode. What was all of them folks thinking?! They stated that church started at 11am. Now, any southern church worth it's salt has preaching for at least 1 hour. So then they go home and Aunt Bee cooks Sunday dinner. By the time Andy and Barney go out to sit on the porch, I figure it had to be at least 2 or 2:30. With Sunday being a "school night", the band concert surely wouldn't start any later than 8:00pm. Sooo...they actually believed they could get it all together in under 6 hours?! Rebuild a dilapidated bandstand, sew up at least 10 crappy, moldy old uniforms AND rehearse a band that was rustier than a can of old nails! So that's my entry into the "What Were They Thinking?" subject thread.Do you agree, LauraLee? Another thought from under the bucket...What was Andy thinking to let Barney go to Florida with him and Helen on their HONEYMOON??!! By the way; I live in Orlando, and like Andy & Helen, I have not yet seen the dancing egrets! Anderson) Subject: What's Your Hurry Episode Seeing someone else mentioned "What's Your Hurry"? Here is something I always wondered about. Before the scene inside the church, there is a shot of the outside of the church showing the church's sign with the sermon on it called "What's Your Hurry?" Then later as the visiting minister begins his sermon, he says something to the effect, "While I was sitting here I wondered what good message could I bring to the people of Mayberry?" Well, my question is. If he didn't know what message he was going to bring while sitting there, how did they manage to get the title of his sermon on the sign before church began". "That's one topic you can never talk enough about, sin." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Jul 2000 22:59:21 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: NOTE FROM WBMUTBB HQ Hey folks, I just wanted to take a few minutes to talk to y'all about something. It's the WBMUTBB Digest...and....well....I feel like in the last few months it's been straying from what it should be. I think the Digest has been moving toward being a "chat room" type place and to tell you the truth, I don't think that's the right direction for the WBMUTBB Digest. We've been moving a little too far toward talking about stuff that's not related to The Andy Griffith Show or Mayberry and just plain ole' talking about our feet falling asleep. I believe the Digest should be a place to share our insights into the town of Mayberry and to note "trivial trivialities" when we see 'em. And I think it should be a place to share "Mayberry like" things that happen to us in our everyday lives. We can talk about favorite quotes, favorite moments, and just about anything else that makes us smile. I can't really put my finger on what exactly is happening lately but I've had a lot of folks put it like this when they talk to me, "I scan through the Digest everyday..." The "scan through" is the thing that I find myself doing, too. I use to hang on EVERY word of the Digest and I find myself "scanning" and not really reading it all the way through each issue. I think that's a sign that something isn't the same and I'm gonna do my best to refocus our discussions to make the WBMUTBB Digest something that folks don't "scan." They READ and read every word because it's something they don't want to miss. So, y'all help me. When you're writing to the WBMUTBB Digest, * Remember you're talking to 1600 folks, not just one or two. * Try to write things that would be of interest to ALL those folks. * Don't write to one member saying "hey" by using the Digest...write 'em directly. * Try to write things that you wouldn't "scan" over if you were reading it. * STAY focused on TAGS and Mayberry. * Keep your discussion Positive...we don't want to hear about you not liking "Aunt Bee", "Warren", or ANY other character. Tell us about what you do like instead. I'm gonna try and help this to happen. I want our little corner of Mayberry to be THE BEST place on the internet just like Mayberry is the best thing on TV. The wedding did take place close to the beginning. The show opened with = the "gentlemen's" bachelor party with Sam making a toast to Andy. That episode was also on in the morning, Monday, but that doesn't do you = any good to know now.
