Speaking of eBay, I need to sell my Mayberry rocking chair to make room for
the new arrival that we're expecting in about two months. I listed this
chair on eBay a few months back, but it didn't sell. This is one of 20
rocking chairs that was used on stage by the TAGS stars at the 35th
anniversary celebration in Winston-Salem on September 30, 1995 (the largest
ever public gathering of Mayberry stars). It has 19 autographs on it. If
anybody is interested, let me know and maybe I'll sell it outright instead
of putting it on eBay. I need to get at least $700 for it (plus shipping,
which should cost about $25). In the last couple of years, I have heard of
two of these chairs selling for $1200 each. I will be happy to email photos
to anyone who requests them.

>Hey To All! I keep hearing TAGS and DVD used together but I have a
question please....Where are they?

I believe when the original poster said DVD, s/he was talking about The Dick
Van Dyke Show. However, there are TAGS episodes available on DVD. They
turn up on eBay all the time (I've sold several myself - BTW my screen name
is "squadcar".) You may also be able to find them at large chain stores
like Best Buy, Hastings, or Sam's Club.

All of the TAGS DVDs I've seen have episodes from the #80 - #100 block.
Somehow, these episodes "fell through the cracks" and the copyrights expired
on them, allowing any company to put them on VHS or DVD.

I just read this weeks "Examiner", and there is a nice article about Ron
Howard and Andy. I know not to believe everything read in those papers,
but it said that Andy was expectedly depressed until Ron began calling
him and talking about the "good old days", and about resuming his
career. Andy is to be in the upcoming Billy Bob Thornton movie "Daddy
and Them", and Ron was said to be joking about all the gossip goin'
round about Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob! Sounds like our guys doing
fine! Andy, if you're reading this, we love ya! Wish you a speedy
recovery!

I've been wondering if any plans ever materialized for a 40th Reunion
Show somewhere in North Carolina this year, similar to the 30th and 35th
Reunion Shows. I had heard rumors of the possibility of a show
immediately after Mayberry Days, but I haven't heard anything recently.
If it's gonna happen, I don't want to miss it.

TAGS fans,

Our Denver station 20 is showing the color episodes on the weekends
now (and, I think, during the noon hour but I'm at work then). It's like
seeing new episodes because I don't remember these as well. This weekend I
got to watch the one where Howard ran for city council. I thought it was
one of Howard's best because it showed that he was actually good at
something and had confidence in his ability. But what makes the whole
episode is Floyd's speech about the four years he served and how it was a
constant battle against corruption. One thing I've noticed about the color
episodes is that they seemed to have a lot of great Floyd moments. I guess
since he wasn't able to walk anymore it was hard to do an episode about
him, so they wrote in "long bit parts" that are just hilarious!

Subject: Changing Houses

I know this isnt' TAGS related, but I thought some of you TV buffs might be
able to answer this question.

Why is it that on several old TV shows they found it necessary to have the
characters' homes change? Lucy and Ricky moved to a different apartment (and
then to the country, but I think that was to create a different setting and
develop different plot lines), Wally and the Beav changed houses....the
Cunninghams changed houses. Any one have any ideas?

My daughter called me in the other day, to watch a Scooby-Doo Cartoon
episode with her. She
pointed out to me that the unmistakable voice and character likeness of Don
Knotts was playing a
Detective, dressed like Sherlock Holmes.
We delighted at the Cartoon Barney with the slightly pronounced lips
instructed Shaggy and the gang
in the fine art of Detective work. I guess police work is just in his
blood.

I too missed the Mayberry RFD wedding, but just because I got my time zones
messed up. (We're on Central,
and it was over by 9:30 Central when I remembered)

I got to see that early episode when Barney locks up the whole town.
"everything's in order in Mayberry on this here day"
Chalk it up as one of those episodes when we get to see both Joe Hamilton
and Johnny Coons and also Bert "Jud" Mustin, that checker-throwin
rabble-rouser.

Also missed Mb at Mv & the Squad Car Convention due to conflicts...so Who's
all going to be at Pigeon Forge on Aug 7
with The Mayberry Deputy? That's my next possibility. If I don't get to
one of the events soon, folks are
going to think I just a Virtual spirit like Count Istvan Delecky.

<< I just watched the old movie, "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" for the
first time. Ronny Howard plays Eddie and steals the whole show! What a great
little actor! It was fun to watch him! I hadn't seen him in anything but
TAGS, as a very young boy. I understand he was in some other movies when he
was even younger. I'll be looking out for those now. >>

One to look out for: "The Music Man" starring Robert Preston (a 1962
musical). Ronnie has a great part in that and if I recall correctly, he's
even missing a front tooth or two...

<< I've always thought that the "What's You Hurry?" episode contained one of
the biggest to-dos over nothing in it. It happens when Andy tells Aunt Bee
that they plan to "run down to the drugstore and get some ice cream." Aunt
Bee suddenly launches into a fit about "Why do you have to run? Why is
 everyone always running?"

If I had been Andy, I would have said, "For Pete's sake, Aunt Bee, it's just
a figure of speech! Truth be told, we're probably going to walk over there."
  >>

That's a very important part of the episode, though, and more realistic than
you might think. Not to overanalyze or anything, but what transpires with
Aunt Bee complaining about "running" and leading up to the disastrous attempt
to organize a band concert on the fly is a perfect example of "groupthink".
That's where "the group" takes a mind of its own and anyone coming up with
anything commonsensical is shouted down or ignored (Clara and the uniforms,
Gomer complaining about spiders, etc.). The fact that we would all know
better, and that even the people in Mayberry don't know how good they have it
(remember, Dr. Breen is from New York City, which is full of rude people
running here and there) is what makes the episode so funny and so special...

Bee went to live with Sam and Mike - Where did Opie go? >>

I was under the impression Opie stayed in Mayberry to finish his education
there. I think that is brought out in later episodes, since Ronnie Howard
did appear frequently.

Also...the next Mayberry R.F.D. episode to look out for is the one in which
Andy and Helen return--this time as parents of a new baby! Wonder how they
overlooked this one in the making of the "Return to Mayberry" movie??

Does anyone know the lyrics to "Church in the Wild Wood" that Andy and
Barney sing? I am stressed and that song helps me; however, I only know
the refrain.

Thanx.

P.S. Sarah's Diehards chat was hoppin' last night! You would think
Reverand Breen was in town for a sermon!

P.P.S. I made homemade ice cream for the fourth. Is there an episode that
actually shows Ange making ice cream on the porch?

The funniest line in "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" is when he walks into
his father's bedroom carrying a newspaper and asks "Dad, what do the numbers
after a woman's name mean? Says here 40-22-38." Glen Ford says, "Holy
smokes, who's that?" So typical of both little boy and big boy!!!!!!!!!

Check out Ronnie Howard in "Music Man", 1962 - in TAG'S hay day!
