Paul- There might have been some copyright infringements if they had used the original printed promotional poster (say that 3 times real fast) - - anyway, maybe that's why they had to change his name. - -Charlie ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Jul 2000 23:42:02 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #238 What cracks me up is any episode when Barney is on a "steakout" hiding in the dark and he zips along the floor squatting, going from one place to another as if he's on wheels. I also get a kick out of Ernest T. although he was in very few shows. He did some brilliant comedy work on the old "Show of Shows" with Sid Cesar and Carl Reiner. My, that was centuries ago! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Jul 2000 13:07:47 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Disney & Mayberry << Just saw a movie this morning starring Fred MacMurray. George Lindsey had a funny part in it playing a handyman who wasn't every handy. Had never even heard of this movie before. It was made in 1973. >> Interesting you should bring that up...TAGS is one of those shows that has such a strong Disney influence, it looks like it could have even been produced by Disney (My Three Sons and Family Affair are two other noteworthy examples). In addition to the Disney-ish "Main Street USA" setting... *In addition to Charley and the Angel, George Lindsey also appeared in "Snowball Express" and contributed voices to "The Aristocats", "Robin Hood" and "The Rescuers". *Don Knotts, of course, appeared in numerous Disney films in the 1970s. This includes the "Apple Dumpling Gang" movies, the part of the coach in "Gus", "Hot Lead and Cold Feet" and "No Deposit No Return". *Did you know Goofy was a resident of Mayberry? Hal "Otis" Smith was one of the actors who did Goofy's voice in the movies, including 1983's "Mickey's Christmas Carol". He also did the voice of Owl in the "Winnie the Pooh" movies and the voice of Phillippe in 1991's "Beauty and the Beast". And he played a bank guard in "$1,000,000 Duck". *Credits from Ken Berry include "Herbie Rides Again" and "The Cat from Outer Space". *Parley Baer (Mayor Stoner) appeared in "The Gnome-Mobile", "The Ugly Dachsund" and "Follow Me, Boys". *Briscoe Darling himself, Denver Pyle, was in the "Witch Mountain" movies. *Clint Howard may not have spoken as sandwich eating Leon, but his voice was used as Roo in the "Winnie the Pooh" movies and as the young elephant in "Jungle Book". *Another Winnie the Pooh regular: Howard Morris, a/k/a Ernest T. Bass, played the voice of Gopher. *...and don't forget the episode in which Winnie the Pooh himself, Sterling Holloway, played Bert Miller, the peddler Ben Weaver tried ever so hard to put out of business. Dixon =========== "Come to Mayberry folks! Gateway to Monte Carlo! Boy, once word gets out they'll be swarming in here with their horn honking and their jaywalking and their litterin'..." - --Barney Fife ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 12:34:29 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: "hooch, firewater, spirits, happy tonic, and other natural gasses..." "Howdy to you and yers..." Just readin through the latest issue whilst the yungins bellow in the other room, with my wife a readin over my shoulder (I converted her, he he)...and she pointed out the fact that in the "dry" town of Mayberry, Ifin ya remember, Ben Weaver sold "spirits" at his store (mentioned during the famous "Christmas episode") where 'OLE Ben trys to get locked up for Christmas, 'cause he's alone. Good OLE "Barney Parney Poo" drags him in several times for various minor offenses and he finally drifts off to sleep with all of the evidence of Sam's "merry up Christmas" moonshine mysteriously gone. I personally always thought that the main reason Mayberry was dry was 'cause Otis took such pride in his hobby. (Drinkin!) The Nick at Nite website has been painfully slow to update its listings. They were down until last Tuesday and ever since, they've been listing last week's lineup (Obviously a day late and a dollar short). I will send them as soon as I get them, for the benefit of our listmembers who have email but no web access. Hopefully they'll get to everyone in time... Lotsa luck to you and yours, Dixon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 12:49:57 -0400 (EDT) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Frances Andrews) Subject: Re: ALL new members Just to say hey and WELCOME to our new members of "our family"!!!! Dixon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 16:50:48 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: short sleeved shirts I remember the episode where the woman caught the man in a short sleeved shirt. Remember the double date where Barney and Thalma Lou went out with Andy and Miss Peg? They were going wading, but Barney was too embarassed to take his shoes off in front of the girls. Andy told him not to worry because both of the girls had brothers!! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 21:15:33 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: favorite funny scenes In a message dated 07/13/2000 9:12:10 PM Central Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: << Which scene strikes your funnybone in a special way? >> Boy, Doug, What a difficult question...look how long it has taken me to respond and I still don't have an answer. There is not one episode that doesn't have a funny scene in it. But if someone were twisting my arm REAL HARD and FORCING me to give an answer, the first thing to come to mind would be in the episode "Floyd the Gay Deciever" (which is one of the few I don't have on tape). I die laughing every time Floyd looks in the mirror and calls himself a "miserable wretch". That whole episode is hilarious with him saying he's "going to Nashville" and when Andy becomes big brother Paul. And Aunt Bea is so funny as a proper maid. Okay, you wanted one scene...I gave you one EPISODE. Sorry, guess I just can't do it. But I am so glad you brought it up!!
