Well, LLH, since we now know that your sinking feelng wasn't caused by
your missing the "Aunt Bee- Flys -a- Plane" episode, then could be
causing this feelng? I think I know. Maybe it is caused by a low blood
sugar or perhaps it is triggered by the clock in your stomach. May I
suggest a Mr Cooky Bar? They are loaded with glucose and carbohydrates,
whch is a sure cure for a 'sinking feeling' !!!

I can come back later with a more complete list but since you mentioned Peggy
I can tell you right off the bat Joanna Moore passed on several years ago...

Keep in mind, when you see one cable network advertising on another, they
probably bought the time. And sometimes they buy them on ROS schedules, so
they pop up anytime. This does seem like an odd one to pop up in TAGS...so
you might want to tell them to alert their traffic department...

Really, I don't think Betty Lynn would mind. After all, Barney thought
Thelma Lou was the CAT'S. And so do I! ;-)

Well Paul ol' buddy ol' pal (I liked you first!), I gotta call you on this
one. Yes, the car that Willie Jack was drivin' when Andy gave him the
citation for bad brakes was the same one used by the fun girls (I believe
the girls drove the car with the top down - a rare scene for this car),
but the car that Otis bought and later sold to Charlie Varney wasn't the
same one. Otis' car was an early 30's Ford (1932?), and the Willie
Jack/Fun Girls car looks more like a 1937 model.

Check it out and lemme know!

Laura Lee - you been sniffing to much gold glue.... that or you're
pregnant....... Chocolate on a pickle? I can't even picture a kid liking
that!

Harriet, maybe I'll try leaving a trail of chocolate coated pickles to bring
in them chickens, think it'll work?

A friend of mine- one of the all-time great Andy
Griffith fans- has a
son named Andy, a dog named Bee and, at one time, had
a cat named
Thelma
Lou (apologies to Betty Lynn).

Hey Paul,

No need to apologize to Betty Lynn. Remember what
Barney said, " Thelma Lou, you're the cats". Except
he could only say things like that to a face like
Andy's. You character.

One thing about gypsies though, their moody.

My 11 year old granddaughter is starting to get hooked also! She was
even reading the newsletter with me, and when she read about the 14
year old boy, she was just a-laughing! Kinda made it alright for her!
Then, she was tellin' her mama about the Mr, McBeevee ep, and a couple
of others that were on Monday night! I tell ya, I was so proud I was
gettin' misty!!

Happy Trails!

Had my VCR ready and raring to tape Don Knotts interview with Matt Lauer set
to air July 24 and Jim Nabors on July 25 for back to back Mayberry fun.
Don's appearance had already been pre-empted once. Lo and behold, when I
expect to see good ol' Barney, there's Tiger Woods! Then, unfortunately, Jim
Nabors segment at 10 p.m. July 25 was pre-empted by the tragedy of the
Concorde plane crash. Jim's segment was still scheduled for 4 a.m. repeat,
set up the VCR for taping and wound up with CHARLES LINDBERGH!
Anybody have any idea when Jim and Don's interviews will appear? Will
breaking news, which happens every day, always pre-empt Headliners and
Legends?

Subject: Betty Lynn's movie roles

The Internet Movie Data Base (www.imdb.com) lists Cheaper by the Dozen,
released in 1950. They do not list her birth year which is very unusual for
IMDB. Her first movie was made in 1948, entitled Sitting Pretty, starring
Robert Young, Maureen O'Hara, and Cliften Webb. Keep in mind that if a
character does not have a speaking part they do not get a listing in the
credits. She did speak in Cheaper by the Dozen and is most definitely
listed in the credits.

Enough of school, Hey Lefty, you and me's busting out of here.

Subject: Commercials from Out of Town

I taped a lot of the episodes by setting the VCR when TAGS came on early
early in the morning. Because of that, my tapes are loaded with trashy
commercials (a lot of 1-900 stuff). I have wondered why a station would
allow a non-wholesome sponsor to advertise during a wholesome show. I guess
if they can get the bucks, that's what matters to them. But I do find it
irritating and offensive. It's a shame because, you know, Andy doesn't
allow criminals and thieves in Mayberry. I'm sure he'd run these guys out
of town as well.

Me and the missus just moved to a new place in the woods about 25 miles
from Siler City. It came with a cat, which we have named Kelsey,in honor
of another unseen character, Old Man Kelsey who owned some similar woods
near Mayberry.

He is never seen, but he is mentioned briefly in "Opie's Charity" when Andy
takes Tom Silby out to the cemetery to see where he's buried. Apparently he
came immediately before Mayor Pike.

Here's a good trivia question for all you TAGS info masters. How many times
did Andy come in and catch Ol' Barn asleep in the back room? And, what did
he do each time?
>>>

I can think of four, in which Andy played the following pranks on old Barn:

A: He takes Barney's hat and switches it with his own larger one

2: He hides Barney's shoes ("The Clubmen")

C: He tucks the corners of the blanket under the legs of the bed ("Cousin
Virgil")

IV: (no prank involved in this one) He tries to wake him up at 4:00 a.m.,
but can't ("Mountain Wedding")

Subject: TAGS cast in old movies

>>>Some of us who love TAGS ought to try to find young, early (before) TAGS
actors in episodes of tv shows or in movies...when they are not even
mentioned in the credits. That would keep our eyes open; Now, wouldn't that
make a good
list?
>>>

I spotted Emory Parnell in an old Three Stooges short the other day. He
played Helen's Uncle Edward in "Dinner at Eight," the spaghetti episode.
One or two TAGS cast members (including Dick Elliot) appeared in the old Our
Gang Films, too. And of course, there are several Mayberryites in "It's a
Wonderful Life."

Now, here's a real toughie: Out of every actor/actress who ever appeared on
TAGS, who was the very first to appear in a movie? This goes WAY back. (We
discussed this topic a couple of years ago, so this question is meant for
you new folks in town).

Andy and Barn are alive and well. I'm interested in the more obscure
characters such as Andy's former girlfriends like Peggy and characters who
were only in a few episodes. Thanks in advance!!!!
Julie
>>>

One of these days, I'll compile a detailed list of every single actor, but
for now here's a rough draft of just the main characters (those who appeared
in at least 3 episodes):

Still with us are Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, Ron Howard, George Lindsey, Jim
Nabors, Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou), Howard Morris (Ernest T.), Maggie Peterson
(Charlene), all 4 of The Dillards, Jean Carson (Daphne), Jack Burns
(Warren), Elinor Donahue, Parley Baer (Mayor Stoner), Bernard Fox (Malcolm),
Ken Berry, and all of the child actors.

Gone to their reward are Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee), Howard McNear (Floyd),
Hal Smith (Otis), Aneta Coursaut (Helen), Jack Dodson (Howard Sprague), Paul
Hartman (Emmett), Hope Summers (Clara), Denver Pyle (Briscoe), Jack Prince
(Rafe), Dick Elliot (Mayor Pike), Cheerio Meredith (Emma), Will Wright (Ben
Weaver), Olan Soule (John Masters), Joyce Jameson (Skippy), Joanna Moore
(Peggy), and pretty much everyone who was over 50 at the time they appeared
on the show. We shall meet, but we shall miss them.
