Subject: Mayberry's Population
Hey, y'all,
I'm a new Mayberry resident and I was just wondering....what's the
population of Mayberry? Was it ever mentioned on TAGS? If so, was the figure
consistent each time it was told? Recently on Mayberry RFD Sam, Goober, Aunt
Bea, and Emmett referred to the population as being about 1860.
Well, see y'all at the fishin' hole.

Maybe they used sweet pickles for Opie instead of dills. This may make them
look darker. Just guessing

Hi y'all. Just a reminder, the man himself, David Browning is
scheduled to appear at another Greenville Braves game this Saturday night.
Maybe a good many of us who live in Upstate South Carolina or within driving
driving distance could make it to the game. It would be nice to meet up with
some of you!

How about in Goober and the Art of Love: "I've got a girl, Barn's got a
girl, all God's chillun gotta' girl!"
We have a member whose silky terrier is Barney Fife.
New query: What episodes or scenes evoke your tears (sad or sentimental)
every time?
Mine are when Andy tells Opie to listen to those baby birds calling for
their mother who's not coming back; when Clara lets Aunt Bee win the rose
contest; the two times Andy explains to Aunt Bee that her marrying
somebody will only be right for them if it's right for her; when Howard
lifts his eyes to heaven and refuses to accept credit for flooding the
other side of the church to level its tilt; when Opie gives up his job to
that needy boy.

Betty Lynn is a wonderful actress & when TV Land did " Inside The Andy
Griffith Show " Betty's smile lit up the screen. " Cheaper By the Dozen
" is one of my favorite movies, and Betty Lynn sparkled in it as a
Southern Belle who was charmed by Clifton Webb's character. Just an
excellent picture and a real credit to Miss Lynn as a young actress.

I'm a relatively new member, and have been sitting in the background
enjoying the Digest for the past few weeks. But now I'd like to chime in!
Regarding the young teenage TAGS fans (grandkids, etc.), my five-year-old
and three-year-old daughters are hooked on TAGS! They watch my "Top 15
episodes" video, and they particularly like "Mr. Daahrrlin'". They giggle
at the funniest things, such as the 11 dogs knocking down the State
Inspector (in "Dogs Dogs Dogs") and of course, at the "Loaded Goat." They
think Ernest T. Bass is "mean..." I tell them he's just misunderstood.
To follow up with the theme of kids and TAGS, when I kiss my girls goodbye
at school and I always tell them to "Act like SOMEbody."
During the discussion of Andy's girlfriends, I didn't see any mention of
Sharon DeSpain ("Class Reunion"). While I realize she was a girlfriend in
Andy's past and not a regular "steady girl," I wanted to toss her name into
the pile.
Finally, I wanted to pose a question to Harvey Bullock (hopefully he's a
daily reader of the Digest): are you in any regular or even occasional
contact with any TAGS cast members? E.g., Xmas cards from Don Knotts,
e-mails with George Lindsey, vacation postcards from Betty Lynn? {Forgive
me if this is too personal a question.} Just curious.
Thanks to Allen Newsome for this great club and to all the "trained
noticers..." sure do love reading this everyday.

First of all, in the immortal word of Floyd Lawson..."everything is OK in
Mayberry" I came back after being gone for a week and a half I had lots of
Digests to catch up on, and I must say that our web-master/Email proprietor
must be very proud. The discussion have been interesting, funny, on topic,
and none too much rule-breakin'. "Outstanding" as Andy would say...now I'm
not Henry, so don't let this jinx us OK?
I just ordered my tickets for the reunion show at Pigeon Forge Tennessee.
Any others gonna be there? I'll finally get to see The Dillards, Charlene
Darling, Thelma Lou, Jim Lindsey, and our own David Browning!! I think the
number for tickets is 1-800-792-4308.

For the lady asking about stars still alive, check out our website
http://mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/anewsome/private/birthdaysa-k.htm
Allan or whoever put together the nice birthday list, also lists those who
are deceased..and therefore you can tell who is living.
For the discussion a week back about Opie's name...I have another theory,
see Fan Fiction at
http://mayberry.com/tagsrwc/index.htm and select "The Favorite Story
Never Told".
Barney asleep in the back....No way I can touch Paul and his complete answer
that will be coming, but I'll say.
...Andy tucks the blanket under the bed posts
...Andy switches hat and steals Barneys shoes.
...Andy makes all sorts or noise and then snaps fingers to wake him up.
One of my favorite philosophy's is Life imitates Mayberry, as Mayberry
imitated life. I feel like this week I own Barney's car.
I took it in, and boy you should hear Gomer's list of the things that went
wrong...and it probably needs a good wash too.
I too was thrilled to hear from Harvey Bullock. It appears his health is
doing better. So glad friend you're doing well. Your
ideas and words thrill more people today that even when they were first
aired, and your stories live on as classic Americana alongside Norman
Rockwell and other artists of your time.
The group has hit most of the funny scenes...but I would add Goober when he
imitates a dog in Man's best friend, that's a crack-up.
Someone mentioned Dr. (Barney) Pendyke, but Gomer's face and his "Opie
Taylor Sr." are priceless.
How do you do that?

Subject: movie credits
>>>According to the Internet Movie Database, Betty Lynn did, indeed, appear
in "Cheaper By the Dozen"! She played the part of Libby Lancaster.
>>>
I haven't seen this movie, but I'd like to make three comments here:
A. The Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com) is fascinating and in
invaluable reference source, but it is not "official." Most of the
information there was sent in by regular people like you and I, so there are
bound to be a few mistakes here and there.
2. Until around the mid-1970s, actors with minor parts in movies were never
given screen credit. So, just because an actor's name doesn't appear in the
credits for a particular film, that doesn't mean they weren't in the film.
A good example is "The Wizard of Oz." There must be three or four hundred
people on screen in that film, but only the main characters got screen
credit. Nowadays, the rules are different. If an actor appears on screen
and he has just one line to speak, s/he usually gets a credit. If their
face is seen but s/he doesn't speak (or vice versa), then they usually
doesn't get a credit.
C: If you see a movie on a cable channel, chances are several minutes have
been cut out (that's right, it's not just TAGS that gets butchered). If
someone had only a small part to begin with, it's possible that after
editing, all of their scenes were removed completely.

I don't imagine that little Ronnie thought it was 'delish', but it
probably made the pickle a bit more palatable. As a kid in West
Virginia, it was a popular thing to 'suck a peppermint thru a pickle'.
Now, I didn't cotton to it but my cousins would push a peppermint stick
thru a big ole pickle and suck away on it! Yuck!

Why did we in Los Angeles area allow fox channel 11 to
take off our favorite show. They make millons off of
advertising and owe us the Andy Griffith Show. I know
it's on TV Land, but shouldn't this great show be free
to the the people. Aunt Bee and her ladies would
protest this un-justice for sure,. Write to the KTTV
fox network and complian. PLease Dave

Andy had a heart attack recently, but is recovering. Don Knotts is still
alive. Frances Bavier, Hal Smith, and Aneta Corsaut have all passed on. I'm
not sure, but I also heard Emmet passed on. Howard McNear died while the show
was still running. that's all I know of!!

I watched the episode of "Goober and the Art of Love" and was looking forward
to the car scene. Then...much to my dismay, THEY CUT IT! It always cracks me
up when Andy says,"Goober, will you tell her to quit hanging her head out the
window like a dog?" Really hilarious!!

You can't say that right out loud in Mayberry. "Family way" would be the way
to put it. My goodness - what's this world coming to? I'm just all
flustered.
