Hellooooo Dollllll,
Just a few observations from the trained eyes of a Fun Girl:

The hobo that Barney chased away from the railroad tracks in last night's
episode went on to play Fred Ziffel, father of Arnold the pig in Green
Acres.

Betty Lynn was Fred MacMurray's secretary Janet, in later episodes of My
Three Sons.

Gilly Walker was played by Larry Hovis, who went on to become Sgt. Carter in
Hogans Heroes.

Bernard Fox (Malcolm Merryweather) also had a recurring role in Hogans
Heroes.

Jackie Joseph (Rowmeena) and Jack Nicholson (the father who left his baby on
the courthouse doorstoop) both had roles in the original B/W version of
Little Shop of Horrors. Jackie Joseph was Audrey, and Jack Nicholson was the
patient in the dentist's chair.

And a ponderance on my part-- maybe there is a logical answer out there--
We discuss along with TAGS, Gomer PyleUSMC because Gomer was directly
connected with TAGS. I was wondering why there isn't discussion on Make
Room for Daddy, since TAGS was a spin off of an episode of that show. Is it
because Andy only appeared in that one episode of Make Room for Daddy and
not cast as a regular?

Have really been enjoying the Block Party Summer on Nick-at-Nite and was
wondering is Parley Baer who played Mayor Stoner on TAGS related to Max Baer
who played Jethro Bodine on the Beverly Hillbilles? Also, I recently saw
the episode where Goober was trying to fix Gilley Walker's car and ended up
rebuilding it in the courthouse and I was wondering if Gilley was related to
Ellie Walker (who BTW I would vote for Andy's girl) Just wondering.
Thanks and lotsa luck to you and yers!

I've got several questions. As big a fan as I am and for as long as
I've been one, I've always wanted to know the following.
How do you pronounce the last name Bavier?
How do you pronounce the last name Corsaut?
I realize this may not be easy to do in an e-mail, but any help would be
appreciated. Oh, and one other. The Digest said a number of
Mayberryites appeared in my all time favorite movie, "Its a Wonderful
Life." Who are they?

Caught the episode yesterday where Opie befriends Trey Bowden. Barney
is demonstrating how to draw his revolver on Andy's front porch and
three times he says, "Smooth and easy." Naturally on the third occasion
his gun goes off and Andy takes it away from him. In fact, after Andy
takes the gun he empties it and it appears to have been fully loaded.

Now that's bullet maintainance!

punishment....but...at times...it seemed to do the trick. My question
is.....was there ever any hard evidence that Opie was paddled by Andy?
I think I remember an episode or two...but I'm not sure.
  >>

I think Opie asked Andy if he was going to whip him "this time" before Andy
showed him the motherless baby birds. The only children I can remember being
spanked on TV was Eddie on "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" and a bully
spending the night with the Evans family on "Good Times." Even in the day
when it was more acceptable, spankings were still a bit uncomfortable to
watch in a sitcom.

Subject: Traffic In Mayberry

When Barney debated Andy for reelection, he accused Andy of letting traffic
getting out of control. Andy responded by saying he didn't believe there
was an accident in town for the last five years.

He must have forgotten all the times Barney got his foot run over, the
havoc that Malcom caused when he rode into town on his bike, the major pile
up when Barney took over as sheriff for a day, and the big wreck involving
the fire truck that old Jud and Goober talked about. And then old Fletch
got his car run off the rode by the young Baily boy, but that may have been
out of the city limits. But then what do we expect when Andy lets the Fun
Girls drive through town at 50mph and he just sits there on the bench like
nothing happened. Only in Mayberry. That's what makes it such a fun place
to visit.

Expanding on recent comments, the high school I went to in
Millington,Tennessee in the late 60's did not allow girls to wear slacks
even to football games as it was considered unladylike in that little
town. I had come from liberal California (Daddy was in the Marine Corps)
and was in for a real culture shock. I got over it and have foreverafter
embraced the southern way of living and I cherish my high school
memories.

What a great idea D Hull! Then maybe we could get quality programming
today! Maybe there's some coalition of TV writers to which we could send
this suggestion. Paul, you probably know who they are. Let us know.

I saw our "Malcolm Tucker" (the apple peeling man on the front porch) on a very,
very old twilight zone thursday, july27. I also saw "Charlene Darling Wash"
on Gomer USMC where she found out that she was supposed to be a "society girl"
on a date with Gomer. It kinda feels funny seeing our beloved characters in
 intirely different roles.

I love this one...my sister's cat comes when she whistles the TAGS theme song.
Once he got out of the house and she walked all over her neighborhood looking
for
him, calling 'here kitty, kitty" and whistling TAGS as loud as she could. I
would have loved to have seen that from my normally somewhat self-conscious
little sis!

Subject: Thelma Lou

You got to hand it to Thelma Lou; she sure stands by her man.
In tonight's episode, when she walked into that meeting with Barney carrying
those 76 cases of
malfeasance against Andy, she looked as though she wanted to be anywhere in
the world but where she was. But, she stayed by his side
and offered as much comfort as she could. She knew Barney was doing the
wrong thing, but no one can tell Barney anything. He has to learn it on his
own, and she had faith that he would do the right thing in the end.

They were perfect for each other. Both highly excitable; both childish when
emotions were involved; but basically decent people with good hearts. And
she was certainly a beautiful young woman. My real regret is
with the writers who didn't marry them when Barney moved to Raleigh. The
years Barney and Thel spent alone always leave me with such a sad feeling.
They really needed each other to be complete.

loves to watch TAGS with us. And Allan, I'm ready to start those golf

Re Chocolate Pickles and what they mean

When Miss Harriet first diagnosed me as being in the "family way," I was a
little upset (as you can well imagined someone with a grown son would be).
But then I talked it over with my beloved Otis Taylor last night and he
seems right pleased about it.
We never named any of our pets after the Andy cast, so now after all these
years, we can have a
little Skippy. It works with either sex, don't you think? But we are open
for suggestions.
Laura Lee Hobbs, obviously I haven't been spending ALL my time in the dime
store or watching out for gold trucks

I saw Matlock on TBS today and the man playing the judge looked very
familiar - checked the credits and it was Everett Greenbaum! The only
time I ever remember seeing him was on one of the TAGS anniversary
shows. Don't wanna keep harping on Matlock but there are just so many
ties between it and TAGS - yesterday's show featured a dog named Otis.
