YO,
I's just gettin ready to post what I thought was
another discrepancy found between two of my favorite
episodes when my 14yr.old son alertly stopped me! In
"Man in a hurry" there aint NUTHIN open on Sunday but
in "Sermon for the day" Andy metions that he was going
down to the drug store to get some ice cream for
later. So I'm thinkin how can he do that cause you
know the drug store (and everything else)is supposed
to be closed on Sunday, but my 14 year old son said,
wait a minute Dad,Andy would probably just use the key
over the door and go in and help himself. Shazam! Made
sense to me. I guess we'll just have to chalk one up
for the youth of the day!

I told you there was Spyders under there.

Paul was asking about Andy's favorite song:

<<The other day I asked if anyone could name Andy Taylor's favorite song,
based on the number of times we hear him sing, hum, or whistle it. The
correct answer is a song that goes something like "...went to Cripple Creek
to have a little fun, tore my britches to my knee." I guess "Cripple Creek"
is the name of the song; however, I have heard another song by that title
that didn't sound like this one.>>

Paul, you are correct, the name of that song is "Cripple Creek". The
Darling Boys aka The Dillards also do an instrumental very similar to it
called "Banjo In The Hollow".

a couple of different answers but I believe it

I checked with Earle Hagen awhile back, and he was pretty sure was Barney
Kessel, as he remembered. It was 40 years ago, after all.

I have no idea why, but I'm gonna guess Bill Bixby. I know he liked to
"swing" - maybe he did it from those rings.

It looks like almost everything he ate went to muscle too. Yep, I'm gonna
say Bailey's Bad Boy spent time on the parallel bars, not just behind
Barney's iron ones.

some of the work off of him. >>

Hey To All!
I don't know if in "Barney's First Car" Gomer had gotten to working
mechanical wonders yet. The list he of parts and repairs he was reading off
to Barney was said to have been a list Wally made.

Mr. Tucker's car...Hmmm that was on a Sunday and we all know Wally won't work
on Sundays! Goober, I think was on the lake in his boat but didn't he come
back in to work on Mr. Tucker's car?

Sometime between these episodes and the episode where Wally threw good ole'
Gomer out and he stayed at the Taylor home, he did get some mechanical
lessons because he could tell by what the motor was doing to what was ailing
the car...

Just finished catching up on just a few TAGS (ten?): what a great way to
spend a Sunday afternoon! I did notice two things that I thought I'd throw
open for discussion. One, I always thought there was only one reference to
Andy & Barney's alleged familiar relationship (you know, cousins), but there
seems to be a lot more! Who can name all the episodes in which that our
Barney brought this fact up?

And B, I just love the fact that Barney always seemed to be filmed from a
lower position. I've seen that camera angle over and over again in lots of
episodes. It makes him look soooo tall and imposing!

That's all for now...back to Mayberry. Maybe I'll sneak out to the garage
now and take a pinch of snuff!

60's. He played a Gibson ES175C. His better work on TAGS is when Jim leaves
the band for being called a "no account bum" by Bobby. He comes back to
Mayberry and does some good blues style stuff after he gets his car
repossessed!

Subject: Mayberry Days Update

Here are the two newest additions to Mayberry Days this year:

- - Children's Trivia Contest. The details are still being finalized for the
day/time, age group (yes, this is only for the young'uns), and number of
questions. I anticipate it will be Friday afternoon. This will be a great
addition to Mayberry Days because the "Hearty Eatin' Men, Beautiful,
Delicate Women" chapter always does a great job with the trivia contest and
it is nice to see the event expand to include the younger fans (many of whom
score better than the adults!)

- - Golf Fashion/Style Award. This will be open to all teams competing in the
Mayberry Days Golf Tournament on Thursday. It is similar to the "Emmett's
Style Award" for the bowling teams. The presentation will be at the post
tournament banquet on Thursday night at Cross Creek Country Club. If anyone
can come up with an good name for this new fashion award, please send your
suggestions to me at mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

The latest Mayberry Days information is on the Surry Arts Council webpage:

Subject: Our Second Mayor

With the passing of Dick Elliott, Parley Baer moved into the mayor's
office. As Mayor Stoner, he always seemed to have a little edge on him,
but he was always very two-sided. Sharp and bossy to the county employees
(mainly Andy and Barn) but a real pussycat when it came to the voters.
Probably one of those elections where everybody voted for him except the
county employees!

But the good Mayor always brought out a side of Andy that I liked.
Regardless of how aggrevating Mayor Stoner was, Andy always took him with a
grain of salt and went on to do what was right. And when all was said and
done, he seemed to like him. It was like he could see through the Mayoral
facade to see something good and likable behind it. Heck, when it was all
over, turned out he liked Ben Weaver --------- even went fishing with him!

Alison:

I'm a music minister and I have always known this song as "There is a
Fountain Filled With Blood" but I have noticed that there are times when
songs are listed by different titles in different hymnals. This could be the
case here. It's possible that Andy knew the song as "Sinners Lose All Their
Guilty Stains" because that's the way it was listed in the hymnal he grew up
with in his church.

Anyway, that's a theory!"

Subject: RE: Pleasantville

Not to drag this out, but yes, it was a bit of a surprise to hear profanity
coming out of Don Knotts. We tend to forget that Don is not Barney Fife,
and that Andy Griffith is not Andy Taylor. We might assume that a movie
filmed primarily in black and white in a fictional 50's setting would
reflect a certain set of values, but if you understood what the point of
the film was, and noticed that it was not rated for immature viewers, you
might not think it was so wierd. I'd heartily agree that a handful of TAGS
episodes is much more wholesome and entertaining (not to mention less
expensive) than a trip to the theater to see "Pleasantville," but I'd also
have to say that the movie was much more cerebral and poignant than people
have given it credit for. It's just not the stuff "our" crowd goes in for.

P.S.: I'd love to see Don in another GOOD comedy while he's still got it in
him. Yeah, boy!

Subject: checkers, anyone?

Hi folks,

Since checkers is the most popular board game in Mayberry, I thought it
might be fun to start up an online checker tournament. There's a web site
called the Microsoft Gaming Zone (www.zone.com) where you can play all sorts
of games over the internet for free (they don't make no charge for it; you
just have to join up and download the free software).

Anybody reading this who would be interested in a tournament, send me an
email, and if there's enough interest I'll volunteer to serve as director.
Since some folks may not have as much free time as others, we'll keep the
pace nice and slow, maybe one round per week.
