I have a 56k modem, >but all I get is the sound and a sort of slide show of images, no actual >motion. Sam - for what it's worth, I've got a cable modem at home and sometimes the video on that site will freeze or jerk and take a while to get caught up. I don't know if it is the number of connections the server gets or the traffic at my end that does it . Streaming video is tough even if your 56K is connecting at a good speed. What kind of connect do you typically get? I know mine at my office varies - one phone line will not connect my 56K at more than 28K but if I switch it to another I can usually get modem at 48,800 Phone company says nothing they can do about the other line. Someone has mentioned getting maps of Mayberry and such over the past couple digests. Here's a thought...although I know you're looking for a specific map of Mayberry (available throught the WBMUTBB page), you can get a copy of one of the maps that hung behind Andy's desk on the early episodes by getting a map of Idaho and turning it upside down. That's what they used. My brothers and I have used = the phrase "Hooty hoot, hooty hoot" since childhood. Now of course, we've a= lways given Gomer the credit for it, but I just can't recall where we saw him= utter those great words. In episode 125, The Rumor, Gomer demonstrates his ho= ot owl call with "Hoooo, hoooo!". Does anyone know where we might have heard "= Hooty hoot"? Could have been on Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. for all I know. Put on yo= ur buckets and let me know what you come up with. But, it's better than nothing!! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 18:47:18 GMT From: "Harriet Browder" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Special thanks to Allan This message is a salute and an elderberry wine toast to Allan Newsome, our belov-id Floyd! Allan, we all know you're a prince and we all know you keep the rules enforced nice, real nice so I just wanted to tell you thanks also for keeping the Mayberry web sites (that's right folks - there's more than one!). Every time I read that someone isn't aware of something like the correct spelling of Aunt Bee's name, or that Mayberry Days is something other than the days of the week that TAGS is on TV, or even comments like "What does TAGSRWC stand for?" I gets all shook up inside. See I've been taking for granted all the efforts you and Jim Clark put forth and I just assume that everyone is aware of those efforts. So when someone puts their great big foot, all of it, in their mouth I just start sliding my hair all over my face (like Barney trying to recite the Constitution). It gets to me down deep when you have to point people in the right direction, so.. Listen up folks and take a little Mayberry advise from a fellow chicken thief - I know Allan is just way to much of a prince to make up any initiation test to let you become a WBMUTBB member but if he did it should be something in line with: A. Go to http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/index.htm and take a nice long gander at his masterpiece. He's got it right, i before e except after c and e before n in chicken! 2. Get familiar with all the links, lingos, lineage and line-up. It'll pick up your spirits, blow away your worries, put a smile on your face and educate you to the degree of "learning". Take one of Miss Crump's quizes, try to beat Goober at checkers, play the slot machines at the Post Office, buy some Mayberry Days tickets, buy a book, buy a t-shirt, buy something, join a chapter, read The Bullet, search something, sing a song, cook something, look at a map, listen to a wave, vote, download a screen saver, save a wallpaper, chat, go to church, ask something, click on something, just do it! (whew) You'll be glad you did and then you'll know what to say when people ask you "What's your favorite web site?" or "Who's your host?" Allan is being way to generous with his rules. We all gotta start obliging and show our 'preciation! If you think about the alternative - What???? No Mayberry web site???? - Well, it just ain't something you can conjugate! Go on, have a bucket and take a think under there and don't get your pants caught on your own pitch fork! I gotta get back to chicken theiving, so y'all act like somebody now! In both episodes, Andy and Helen try for a peaceful picnic by the lake only to have Barney/Warren/Goober foil every attempt to be alone. I will say this though. Somehow when Barney created havoc in Andy's life he made seem funny (I guess that was the point of his being there. See, I'm a trained noticer; I notice these things.); poor Warren just made it seem like extra work (and that's probably why he didn't last very long. Again, see how trained I am.) His chemistry was just somehow all wrong. But no one should be fired on Christmas. Can't blame him for still being bitter about that. The Mayberry episode where Braden Pyle (Woodrow Parfrey) visits his brother Goober in Mayberry, a long-time-no-see story when Goob finds Braden is a big wheel exec-type. Sam has to give Goob a pep-talk about self esteem, etc, etc. Does anyone else notice, besides me, that at the beginning of the story, Goober tells his friends about Braden's coming to visit, then going on about himself.....doesn't it appear George is talking and not necessarily the character? Another thing, were the zoom shots of Goober with Parfrey supposed to make him look like that???!!! I almost lost it watching Goob. That, and the tv set.... Those pictures and sound take up alot of bandwidth ("space" for you non-technical folks out there), and a 56K modem just can't handle it. First up is the RealAudio interviews that we've collected over the years. You'll get to hear Don Knotts, Howard Morris, Jim Nabors, George Lindsey, Betty Lynn, James Best, Elinor Donahue and Bernard Fox talk about their time on The Andy Griffith Show. You'll need RealAudio to hear 'em but most folks have that already. http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/anewsome/private/realaudio.htm That link will take you there. You may not realize it but Mayberry.com isn't our only domain name. This next feature is hosted on tagsrwc.com. Goober's Post Cards At Goober's Post Cards you can send your greeting along with a Mayberry Picture to your friends and fan's a like.
